ABOUT THIS BOOK It’ll take a miracle to make Juliet’s Christmas merry, but Mistletoe Row is the place to be when you need some Christmas magic. The last person Juliet Bell expects to see when she returns home for Christmas is Harrison Bow. Especially with the most beautiful woman in the world by his side. Twenty years ago, Juliet and Harrison had the shortest romance in history, consisting of one date – and one blazing row. But Juliet will never admit when she’s wrong, and Harrison doesn’t forgive easily, so they haven’t seen, or spoken to one another since. Harrison Bow vowed he’d never visit his grandfather at The Grange, again, or drive along Mistletoe Row, the scene of one of the unhappiest times of his life. He hasn’t been back for twenty years and he’s only here now because his brother pleaded with him to come. At least with his executive assistant joining him, he’ll be able to do some work. But Juliet’s sister, Zoe and Harrison’s brother, Luke have some surprises in store for their elder siblings, and so it seems does Fate. After Harrison risks his life to save Juliet, the least she can do is be nice. The problem is, Harrison is hotter than the log fire in The Mistletoe pub, and when she’s surrounded by twinkling lights and softly falling snow, it doesn’t take long for her to realise she’s in love with the man she thought she hated. Even if he doesn’t appear to be in love with her. MY REVIEW Well, I can safely say that after reading BELLS AND BOWS ON MISTLETOE ROW Emily Harvale has a new fan in me and I cannot wait to read everything that this author has written. When Juliet Bell returns home to Mistletoe Row to spend Christmas with her family she hadn't planned for it to be a permanent move but with being made redundant she doesn't have much choice. At least she can relax in their cosy cottage and reconnect with her sister and parents, even if she cannot forget the past when they used to live in the big house. Juliet tries hard to forget about that time in her life when they lost their home and she lost her heart to someone who didn't deserve it, but when Harrison Bow returns to the village for the first time in years, Juliet cannot let it go. But what happened all those years ago may not have occurred exactly as Juliet remembers and when they are thrown together time and again, could the magic of the season open their eyes to the truth and their feelings? Like a perfect Christmas movie, BELLS AND BOWS ON MISTLETOE ROW by Emily Harvale completely transported me to this wonderful setting and I fell in love with the Bells and the Bows (well, not all of them!), and this close community that warmed my heart. The characters are feisty, funny, and utterly loveable, and the drama and misunderstandings that happen throughout made this book unputdownable. The setting is divine and it made me wish I could move myself and my family over on the next plane. BELLS AND BOWS ON MISTLETOE ROW by Emily Harvale is a must for romance and festive readers and I highly recommend it!! AUTHOR BIO After living in London for several years, Emily returned to her home town on the East Sussex coast, where she now spends her days writing - and chatting on Twitter and Facebook! Emily is a Member of the SoA, a PAN member of the RWA and a Pro Member of ALLi. She's an Amazon bestseller and a Kindle All Star, many, many times over. ABOUT THIS BOOK Meet Aisling. She's a country girl learning to love the city sophistication of unlimited Pinot Greej and brunch, though smashed avocado still mystifies her. She can plan anything, from Secret Santa for her ungrateful colleagues to a hen party for not one but two brides. But even Aisling is thrown off course when her job and relationship suddenly go up in smoke. Life in the city was supposed to be glamorous and grown-up, but all at once she's heading home to live with her mother. (Not without a detour to Vegas first - she's unemployed and single, not dead.) But between making new friends and rivals, and finding her eye caught by a very handsome but very unavailable new man, going home is full of surprises. Could small town life actually hold the answers Aisling is missing? MY REVIEW I adored Oh My God, What A Complete Aisling and I was so excited when I heard that there was going to be more from the gang, but I was also a little worried about whether the sequel would be able to meet the hype. Well, after sitting up for three hours straight, devouring every page and laughing my head off too many times to count, I can safely say that THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING AISLING is even better than the first book and that is no mean feat. Aisling is settled after a little bit of a rollercoaster year and the devastating loss of her dad, but she is strong and ready to keep tackling each day head-on. But when she loses her job and moves back home to live with her mum, it forces Aisling to re-evaluate her life. And watching her best friends fall in love makes Aisling realise that her feelings for John, her longterm boyfriend, have changed. Single and jobless may not work for everyone but Aisling isn't just anyone and as she meets new people and takes a chance on herself, this may be the year that Aisling finally discovers what she really wants from life. Hilarious in a way that only Aisling can be, THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING AISLING by Emer McLysaght & Sarah Breen, will have the tears streaming down your face with the laughter so often that I worried about becoming dehydrated (See? There is a little of Aisling in me 😉). But this story isn't all giggles as sensitive subjects like grief and domestic abuse in all of its forms are deftly handled with care and consideration, and the story also shows that you are never too old or too young to take a chance at changing your future. There is drama, friendship, misunderstandings, reinvention, a little lust, and some cracking one-liners in THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING AISLING and if you buy one book for a Christmas gift this year, please make it this one because this is a story for all generations, and if you have any Irish in your ancestry at all, it is an absolute MUST!!!!!! Congratulations on the book award ladies. AUTHOR BIO Emer McLysaght and Sarah Breen conceived the character of Aisling in their sitting room in 2008, when they began to observe the many traits, characteristics and quirks of a very particular type of Irish girl; one they identified around them and one they identified with. Their first book Oh My God What a Complete Aisling was the Number One bestselling adult fiction title of 2017 in Ireland and is soon set to be made into a major film with McLysaght and Breen writing the screenplay. ABOUT THIS BOOK Cassie Beresford has recently landed her dream job as deputy head at her local, idyllic village primary school, Little Acorns. So, the last thing she needs is her husband of twenty years being 'outed' at a village charity auction - he has been having an affair with one of her closest friends. As if that weren't enough to cope with, Cassie suddenly finds herself catapulted into the head teacher position, and at the forefront of a fight to ward off developers determined to concrete over the beautiful landscape. But through it all, the irresistible joy of her pupils, the reality of keeping her teenage children on the straight and narrow, her irrepressible family and friends, and the possibility of new love, mean what could have been the worst year ever, actually might be the best yet... MY REVIEW A VILLAGE AFFAIR by Julie Houston is a fantastic contemporary fiction story with engaging characters and enough drama to keep you gripped from beginning to end. Cassie Beresford has everything she ever wanted in her safe and stable marriage to Mark, her two beloved children, and her new dream job as deputy head of the local primary school. But when a secret is exposed on a night out, Cassie's life changes dramatically as she realises her husband has been cheating on her for two years with one of her best friends. Devastated, Cassie is determined to keep going for her kids and believes that Mark will come back and when she gets a promotion to head teacher, she certainly has enough on her plate. Throw in protests against a new housing estate destroying their green meadows, a free-spirited mother holding a secret, and a sizzling attraction to someone who should be seen as the enemy, and life sure has gotten crazy for Cassie. But amongst the madness, she might just find out who she really is and what she wants from her future. The drama, the witty banter, the setting, the crazy friendships, all combine to make A VILLAGE AFFAIR by Julie Houston one of the most enjoyable reads that I have settled down with in a long time. This is a story about family, friendship, and realising your own worth and not being afraid of taking a chance, and I devoured this book in a couple of hours because I just didn't want to put it down. A VILLAGE AFFAIR by Julie Houston is a top-notch read and I cannot wait for more from this talented author. AUTHOR BIO Julie Houston is the author of The One Saving Grace, Goodness, Grace and Me and Lookingfor Lucy, a Kindle top 100 general bestseller and a Kindle Number1 bestseller. ABOUT THIS BOOK In 1761, a tiny, odd-looking girl named Marie is born in a village in Alsace. After the death of her parents, she is apprenticed to an eccentric wax sculptor and whisked off to the seamy streets of Paris, where they meet a domineering widow and her quiet, pale son. Together, they convert an abandoned monkey house into an exhibition hall for wax heads, and the spectacle becomes a sensation. As word of her artistic talent spreads, Marie is called to Versailles, where she tutors a princess and saves Marie Antoinette in childbirth. But outside the palace walls, Paris is roiling: The revolutionary mob is demanding heads, and . . . at the wax museum, heads are what they do. MY REVIEW I didn't know what to expect from LITTLE by Edward Carey but as soon as I entered the world of little Marie I was entranced and didn't want to leave. Madame Tussaud is legendary today with millions of people visiting the popular waxwork attraction every year but have you ever stopped to ask yourself 'Who was Madame Tussaud'? Well, luckily for you Edward Carey has taken the past of this incredible woman and added some fictional flair to create this compelling and unputdownable story of revolutionary Paris and an artistic talent that was truly unique. From a simple home awaiting the return of her father who was a soldier, to the lavish halls of Versailles, LITTLE captures the essence of Marie and how she became the infamous Madame Tussaud. Punctuated throughout with fascinating illustrations, this story flows effortlessly from page to page, almost lulling you into the rhythm of the story. There is drama, darkness, danger, and more in Marie's life but there is also shining inspiration and a talent that knew no bounds. LITTLE by Edward Carey is a unique blend of history and art and I highly recommend it. AUTHOR BIO Edward Carey is a writer and illustrator who was born in North Walsham, Norfolk, England, during an April snowstorm. Like his father and his grandfather, both officers in the Royal Navy, he attended Pangbourne Nautical College, where the closest he came to following his family calling was playing Captain Andy in the school’s production of Showboat. Afterwards he joined the National Youth Theatre and studied drama at Hull University. He has written plays for the National Theatre of Romania and the Vilnius Small State Theatre, Lithuania. In England his plays and adaptations have been performed at the Young Vic Studio, the Battersea Arts Centre, and the Royal Opera House Studio. He has collaborated on a shadow puppet production of Macbeth in Malaysia, and with the Faulty Optic Theatre of Puppets. He is also the author of the novels Observatory Mansions and Alva and Irva: the Twins Who Saved a City, which have been translated into thirteen different languages, and both of which he illustrated. He always draws the characters he writes about, but often the illustrations contradict the writing and vice versa and getting both to agree with each other takes him far too long. He has taught creative writing and fairy tales on numerous occasions at the Writers Workshop at the University of Iowa, and at the Michener Center and the English Department at the University of Texas at Austin. He has lived in England, France, Romania, Lithuania, Germany, Ireland, Denmark, and the United States. He currently lives in Austin, Texas, which is not near the sea. ABOUT THIS BOOK One night. One date. What have you got to lose? Jack Harper isn’t a bad man, but he’s stuck in a loveless marriage with a mediocre job just trying to keep sober. The only good thing in his life is his son. When an old college friend introduces him to a new extramarital dating website, he tentatively reaches out to find a distraction from his misery. But when he goes to meet up with his steamy online date, he quickly realises it was a dire choice. Soon, Jack finds himself desperately trying to prove his innocence for crimes he did not commit, and the life he once had – unhappy as it was – is nothing but a dream. Now, he’s living his worst nightmare. . . MY REVIEW Fast-paced and deeply disturbing at times, TOO FAR by Jason Starr is a psychological thriller with plenty of twists to keep you guessing until the very end. Jack Harper hasn't ended up with the life that he always dreamed of. A recovering alcoholic he works as a real-estate agent in the city and has a loveless marriage to Maria where they treat each other like roommates who barely put up with each other. The only bright spot in his life is his son. But when his career stalls and the tension at home becomes unbearable, Jack decides to shake up his mundane existence with a little excitement as he begins to chat online to what seems to be a sexy woman who fascinates him at every turn. Deciding to meet up in person, Jack begins to question whether he is doing the right thing. But when he finally meets his mystery woman it will set off a terrifying sequence of events that will make him beg for his old life back. Straight into the action, TOO FAR by Jason Starr does not lag at any point of the story. The plot is intricate and detailed and there were moments of true surprise which is always a bonus for a reader. Jack isn't exactly a likeable character but that didn't take away from my need to uncover the truth for him. Overall a compelling and interesting read for psychological thriller fans everywhere. AUTHOR BIO Jason Starr is the international bestselling author of many suspense novels, and his work has been published in over a dozen languages. He also writes comics and graphic novels for Marvel, DC, Vertigo, and BOOM! Studios, and many of his books are in development for film and TV. ABOUT THIS BOOK One crossed wire, three dead bodies and six bottles of bleach Seth Beauman can’t sleep. He stays up late, calling strangers from his phonebook, hoping to make a connection, while his wife, Maeve, sleeps upstairs. A crossed wire finds a suicidal Hadley Serf on the phone to Seth, thinking she is talking to The Samaritans. But a seemingly harmless, late-night hobby turns into something more for Seth and for Hadley, and soon their late-night talks are turning into day-time meet-ups. And then this dysfunctional love story turns into something altogether darker, when Seth brings Hadley home… And someone is watching… MY REVIEW What have I just read?! Seriously! GOOD SAMARITANS by Will Carver is like nothing that I have ever read before, making words like 'unique' and 'fresh' pale into insignificance when trying to come up with the right adjective for this story. Dark? Definitely. Graphic? For sure. Utterly disturbing and completely unputdownable? 100%. And you can throw in weirdly witty at times just for good measure. When insomniac and married man Seth finds himself on the phone late at night with a stranger, Hadley, who needs a sympathetic ear, these two soon find themselves desperately wanting to further their connection. But their harmless chats soon become so much more dangerous. And someone is watching them. I do not want to say too much about the plot because I really don't want to give anything away but wow seems to be the most apt word I can find at the moment. The pace is perfect, the characters truly individual and fresh, and it is safe to say that GOOD SAMARITANS by Will Carver will blow your bloody mind so many times throughout this story that you will find herself disoriented without leaving your chair. And on that note, I will leave you with this final piece of advice - BUY THIS BOOK. You can thank me later 😉 AUTHOR BIO Will Carver is the international bestselling author of the January David series (Arrow). He spent his early years in Germany, but returned to the UK at age 11, when his sporting career took off. He turned down a professional rugby contract to study theatre and television at King Alfred’s, Winchester, where he set up a successful theatre company. He currently runs his own fitness and nutrition company, while working on his next thriller. He lives in Reading with his two children. ABOUT THIS BOOK Would you swap sea and sunshine for tinsel and turkey? Gabby Sanderson is used to being let down – even at Christmas. Which is why she’s happy to skip the festive season completely in favour of a plane ticket and sunnier climes. But this Christmas could be different, because this time she might not be spending it alone. Can Owen Cooper charm Gabby into loving Christmas in the same way he’s charmed his way into her life, or is he just another person who’ll end up disappointing her? MY REVIEW I have read Kathryn Freeman's work before and I always know that I am in for a great read but A LITTLE CHRISTMAS CHARM is far and away my favourite of her books so far. Engaging and loveable characters mixed with heart-pounding romance is a sure-fire recipe for a thoroughly mesmerising Christmas romance. Gabby Sanderson is smart, witty, capable, and determined. But she is also lonely and afraid of opening herself up to anyone. So when the sexiest and most charming man at work, Owen Cooper, shows an interest in getting to know her more personally, Gabby's natural reaction is to block him at every turn. After all, if her own mother never had time for her and disappointed her all the time, why would Owen be any different? But Owen is determined to show Gabby that trusting the right person is nothing to be scared of and as their tentative relationship soon turns into something all-consuming, will he be able to break down the walls surrounding Gabby's heart? Or will the past always find a way to come between them? While the setting is perfect in this book, it is the characters who really steal the show. Gabby is a such a strong character yet I could feel her fear of letting someone into her world, and I really felt for the little girl who was always left by those who should have nurtured her. Owen is suave and witty, but there is so much more to him than a pretty face, and it was a pure delight to get to know him and his family. A LITTLE CHRISTMAS CHARM by Kathryn Freeman has magic, romance, and plenty of misunderstandings to keep you hooked from start to finish, and I have to say it is topping my list for my favourite festive story for 2018. AUTHOR BIO I was born in Wallingford, England and have spent most of my life living in a village outside Windsor. A former pharmacist, former pharmaceutical industry employee I’m now a self-employed medical writer who also loves to write romance. Some days a racing heart is a medical condition, others it’s the reaction to a hunky hero… I’ve two teenage boys and a husband who asks every Valentine’s Day whether he has to bother buying a card again this year (yes, he does) so the romance in my life is all in my head. Then again, my husband’s unstinting support of my career change goes to prove that love isn't always about hearts and flowers - and heroes can come in many disguises For more information: Website - kathrynfreeman.co.uk Twitter - twitter.com/KathrynFreeman1 Facebook - www.facebook.com/kathrynfreeman/?ref=br_rs DON'T FORGET TO CHECK OUT ALL OF THE OTHER MAGICAL STOPS ALONG THE WAY!! |
