ABOUT THIS BOOK Adam Brandt is a forensic psychologist, well used to dealing with the most damaged members of society. But he's never met anyone like Kassie. The teenager claims to have a terrible gift - with one look into your eyes, she can see when and how you will die. Obviously, Adam knows Kassie must be insane. But then a serial killer hits the city. And only Kassie seems to know where he'll strike next. Against all his intuition, Adam starts to believe her. He just doesn't realise how deadly his faith might prove... MY REVIEW A GIFT FOR DYING by M.J. Arlidge is the kind of twisted and dark story that really gets under your skin and leaves a mark with its sheer genius of storytelling. There is a serial killer, the likes that Chicago has never seen before, and the city is out of its depth in their hunt for this psychopath. But among the crowd, there is a young girl who has lived with a special and terrifying power her whole life. Her name is Kassie and when she looks anyone in the eye she can foresee their death and when it is likely to happen. Troubled, lost, and very alone, Kassie seeks solitude from the madness but when she meets the victim of this monster that is on the loose, she believes that she can help these people if only someone would believe her. Adam is a forensic psychologist who has a lovely wife and baby on the way when he takes on Kassie's case. Wanting to help her find some happiness he believes he can make her understand that the psychic power she thinks she has is not real. But when Kassie predicts the death of three prominent people in the area, Adam cannot help but wonder could she be telling the truth? And are they all being led down a preordained dark and destructive path? This story is unbelievably gripping and I could not put it down until I finished reading it in the wee hours of the morning. The story is told from different character's points of view so we get to really know Kassie and Adam, and we get an insight into the victim's lives, the detective in charge and the killer's too. I felt so much for Kassie because she is such a young girl with no support, dealing with something that nobody should ever have to face. There were times when I was horrified, tearful, angry, and resigned to what was happening which goes to show just how good this author is at pulling emotions from readers. A GIFT FOR DYING by M.J. Arlidge is an absolute masterpiece and is perfect for readers who enjoy a dark and grisly story with plenty of energy from beginning to end. AUTHOR BIO M.J. Arlidge has worked in television for the last 15 years, specialising in high end drama production. ABOUT THIS BOOK THIS STORY IS YOUR GUILTY SECRET You know Lara King. The top billing of the showbiz pages, you've seen her every morning; over your breakfast, on your commute to work. You know everything about her; you've dissected her life. Her perfect relationship with film-star Matthew Raine. Her beautiful six-year old daughter Ava. And so when a terrible incident shatters the family's carefully constructed facade, a media frenzy ensues. What happens when the perfect woman begins to unravel? When her whole life is really just a lie? One she will do anything she can to stop you from finding out? This story is . . . YOUR GUILTY SECRET. MY REVIEW Holy crap, what have I just read?!!! Compelling, disturbing, and utterly addictive, YOUR GUILTY SECRET by Rebecca Thornton is sure to take you on a rollercoaster of emotions and leave you shaken at the end. Lara King is at the height of her success, with a successful tv show centred around her and her adorable little girl, Ava. She has a new relationship with heartthrob Matthew and an exciting new adventure is about to be set in motion. Everything is perfect. And then Ava disappears. As the world watches and Lara's fans feel as if it is their own daughter that is lost, Lara starts to buckle under the pressure. For her world is just a facade, the lies and the truth all brushed under the carpet to make her marketable and her life insta-glamorous. But as time creeps on and there is still no sign of Ava, the cracks are starting to show and the truth will always come out in the end ... This story is deeply disturbing as we get to see behind the curtain of celebrity and witness the pressures of needing to be perfect and desperately craving the limelight. I don't want to say too much about the plot as I don't want to give anything away but YOUR GUILTY SECRET by Rebecca Thornton was sooooo much darker than I thought it would be and equally as gripping. A psychological thriller that is sadly perfect for the world we live in, YOUR GUILTY SECRET is simply superb and I highly recommend it! ABOUT THIS BOOK A case as cold as the season. A profiler who can't remember. A killer ready to strike again. Psychological profiler Hanne Lagerlind-Schön and her partner, investigator Peter Lindgren are invited to the small, sleepy industrial town of Ormberg to investigate a cold case: ten years earlier a five-year-old girl's remains were found in a cairn near the town. But when a recurring memory problem resurfaces, Hanne struggles to keep track of the case. She begins keeping a diary, noting down everything she is likely to forget to keep up appearances so she doesn't lose her job. When the body of a woman is found at the cairn and one of Hanne's shoes is found nearby covered in the victim's blood, can Hanne's diary hold the key to what happened? How does this new murder connect to their old one? How can you put together what happened when the pieces keep fading away? MY REVIEW I must admit when I first read about this story it seemed a little confusing but I'm so glad that I picked up AFTER SHE'S GONE by Camilla Grebe because this is a clever, dark, and intense story that will hook you from the very beginning. Psychological profiler Hanne and her partner, both professionally and personally, Peter are called to the tiny town of Ormberg to reinvestigate a cold case centred around the discovery of a little girl's remains found in a cairn almost ten years ago. Helping them with the case is police officer, Malin, who also happens to be one of the teenagers who discovered the body all those years ago. With little to go on, Hanne isn't sure how much they can help and it doesn't' help matters that she is desperately trying to hide her dementia from everyone, including Peter. Her little brown book is the only thing that helps her keep her mind straight but when Hanne is found on the side of the road in a bad way and Peter seems to be missing, nobody knows what's happening because Hanne has forgotten everything and her brown book is missing. Where is Peter? What happened to Hanne in the woods? And is this connected to the cold case? And when another body is found, things are about to get a whole lot worse. Eery at times, AFTER SHE'S GONE by Camilla Grebe is the kind of story that makes you a little on edge as you read each page, wondering what on earth is going on. The story is told from different character's points of view which I really enjoyed and the chapters are short and snappy which gives the plot a great pace, never leaving me any time to get bored. I had planned to read just a few chapters when I picked this book up but soon found myself halfway through and loathe to leave it down. The characters, the setting, the murder cases themselves, are all strange and unique in their own rights and I thoroughly enjoyed trying to piece it all together myself as I read each page. AFTER SHE'S GONE by Camilla Grebe is an excellent story, told in a brooding and ominous way and I highly recommend it to all crime fiction fans as well as readers who enjoy Nordic crime fiction. ABOUT THIS BOOK Three women—two sisters and their aunt—and the cliff house on the northern California coast that served as a beacon to them all… After the death of their mother, sisters Daisy and Beatriz Davenport found a home with their aunt Stella in the beautiful and welcoming town of Cape Sanctuary. They never knew all the dreams that Stella sacrificed to ensure they had everything they’d ever need. Now, with Daisy and Bea grown, it’s time for Stella to reveal the secret she’s been keeping from them—a secret that will change their family forever. Bea thought she’d sown all her wild oats when she got pregnant far too young. The marriage that followed was rocky and not destined to last, but it gave Bea her wonderful, mature, now eleven-year-old daughter, Marisol. But just as she’s beginning to pursue a new love with an old friend, Bea’s ex-husband resurfaces and turns their lives completely upside down. Then there’s Daisy—sensible, rational, financially prudent Daisy. She’s never taken a risk in her life—until she meets a man who makes her question everything she thought she knew about life, love and the power of taking chances. In this heartwarming story, Stella, Bea and Daisy will discover that the path to true happiness is filled with twists and turns, but love always leads them back home. MY REVIEW I absolutely adored THE CLIFF HOUSE by RaeAnne Thayne and it has quickly become my favourite book from this author so far. When Daisy and Bea's flighty mother died suddenly when they were children, they were separated and spent a year in the system before their young aunt, Stella, heard what happened and saved them. Now they are all grown women with their own lives, careers, and families in the stunning town of Cape Sanctuary but as always life has its problems. Daisy has a busy career but she doesn't trust herself to fall in love and is even hiding a huge part of herself from her sister and aunt whom she adores. Bea has a successful career as an artist and adores being a mother to her daughter. She has even started to realise that her long-term best friend may just be the man of her dreams when her charismatic ex-husband arrives back to town determined to win her back. And then there is Stella. A woman who gave up everything to raise her nieces, and who has since dedicated so much of her life to teaching and helping those in foster care who needed her. Now she is ready to do something just for her but she is unsure how her family will react. And when the man she pushed away all those years ago turns up on her doorstep, it may just change everything. Compelling from the very beginning, THE CLIFF HOUSE by RaeAnne Thayne oozes warmth and connection and I never wanted this story to end. There is drama, secrets, romance, and heartbreak all threaded through this engaging story but it is the strength, courage, and love that these three women embody that really makes this story special. I loved all of the characters but my heart had a special place for Daisy who had built such a wall around herself to hide behind and it was great watching her trust herself again. THE CLIFF HOUSE by RaeAnne Thayne is an exceptionally good story about sisterhood, strength, and love and I highly recommend it. AUTHOR BIO I'm not one of those people who knew from birth she was destined to become a writer. I always loved to read and throughout my childhood I could usually be found with a book in my hands. To the disgust of my friends, I even enjoyed creative writing assignments that made them all groan. But I had other dreams besides writing. I wanted to be an actress or a teacher or a lawyer. Life took a different turn for me, though, when my mother made me take a journalism elective in high school (thanks, Mom!). I knew the first day that this was where I belonged. After I graduated from college in journalism, I took a job at the local daily newspaper and I reveled in the challenge and the diversity of it. One day I could be interviewing the latest country music star, the next day I was writing about local motorcycle gangs or interviewing an award-winning scientist. Through it all -- through the natural progression of my career from reporter to editor -- I wrote stories in my head. Not just any stories, either, but romances, the kind of books I have devoured since junior high school, with tales about real people going through the trials and tribulations of life until they find deep and lasting love. I had no idea how to put these people on paper, but knew I had to try -- their stories were too compelling for me to ignore. I sold my first book in 1995 and now, more than 30 books later, I've come to love everything about writing, from the click of the computer keys under my fingers to the "that's-it!" feeling I get when a story is flowing. I write full-time now (well, as full-time as I can manage juggling my kids!) amid the raw beauty of the northern Utah mountains. Even though I might not have dreamed of being a writer when I was younger, now I simply can't imagine my life any other way. ABOUT THIS BOOK Career girl Becca Gates’ organised life is thrown into chaos when her mother, romantic novelist Pearl, announces her surprise engagement to Jack, a man she has only just met. Worse news follows when Pearl tells Becca she intends to leave London, quit writing, and retire to her new fiancé’s idyllic waterside home on the south coast of England. Becca is determined to prevent Pearl from making a disastrous mistake, but when she at arrives at Rivermede, more shocks await when she stumbles upon a familiar yet unwelcome face from her past. As Pearl embraces her new life amongst the local sailing fraternity, Becca receives a grim warning that all is not as calm as it seems at picturesque Rivermede, and if she wants to keep her family safe, she should keep them away. But why should Becca trust the man who has betrayed her before, the man who broke her heart, the man who thinks he knows all her secrets? MY REVIEW With plenty of laughs along the way, YOUR SECRET'S SAFE WITH ME by Rosie Travers is a wonderfully entertaining story that has something for everyone. Becca Gates doesn't like to dwell on her past where she was left brokenhearted at the altar by her no-good fiancè. Instead for the years since, she has thrown herself into her career as a P.A./editor/writer for her romance novelist mother, Pearl Gates. So when Pearl rings Becca and tells her that she is getting married to a man that she met on holidays, moving to Rivermede, and giving up writing, Becca is determined to talk her mother out of this foolishness. Arriving in Rivermede, she is pleasantly surprised by the place and her mother's fiancè but what is she supposed to do if her mother packs her whole life in for this new life? But when Becca meets the one man she never wanted to set eyes on again, things begin to take an even stranger turn, for he warns Becca that herself and her mother aren't safe at Rivermede. But why would she ever believe him? Engaging, witty, and with plenty of mystery and drama along the way, YOUR SECRET'S SAFE WITH ME by Rosie Travers is a really good read that worked well for me. The characters are quirky and a little mad at times, but that adds to their charm and I enjoyed the twists and turns throughout. YOUR SECRET'S SAFE WITH ME by Rosie Travers is sure to please contemporary fiction fans everywhere and I highly recommend it. AUTHOR BIO Rosie grew up in Southampton on the south coast of England. As they begin to form unlikely friendships, Paul's deaths proves to be the catalyst that enables them to become the people they always wanted to be. MY REVIEW MY HUSBAND'S WIVES by Faith Hogan is a fantastic story of secrets centred around four incredible women who make this story spellbinding, When Paul Starr dies suddenly in a car crash, he leaves behind the women who loved him. His first wife Evie, second wife Grace and their daughter, and his third wife Annalise and their two children. But what about the pregnant woman who was in the car crash with him and survived. And as these women come into contact with each other for the first time they will soon uncover that Paul had kept secrets from them all. But as they are there for each other during these turbulent times, they will forge a friendship that may just open up their hearts and allow them to be free and happy in the future. I didn't really know what to expect with this story but nothing prepared me for these amazing characters that really made their way into my heart. While they are all complex and loveable in their own way, I have to say that Grace was a favourite of mine. There is plenty of drama, soul-searching, and development for each of these women as they learn to open up and trust each other and it was an absolute joy to watch this story unfold. ABOUT THIS BOOK For a decade, Hannah’s life has been pretty close to perfect – she has a great job, she’s married to Mark, and her child-free existence means she’s free as a bird. The only sadness in her life is a fall-out with her sister Diane, who hasn’t spoken to her in over ten years. But now Diane is on her doorstep – and this time, she’s got her teenage daughter Mia in tow. When Diane asks if Mia can stay with Hannah and Mark for a few days, Hannah is glad of the chance to get to know her niece. But as the days turn into weeks and Diane doesn’t return, Hannah begins to worry. Why hasn’t her sister been in touch? Diane is carrying a devastating secret that will destroy Hannah’s carefully constructed life. But how much is she willing to reveal – and when will she pick her moment? MY REVIEW If you want a story that will tug at your heartstrings, characters that will engage and connect with you at every turn, and a plot that will keep you gripped the whole way through, then look no further than MY SISTER'S LIES by S.D. Robertson. Hannah is happy with her marriage and her new career as an author. Sometimes she wonders about her sister Diane, a sister whom she hasn't seen or spoken to in over ten years, but the thought always passes. They had always had a tempestuous relationship so she has made a sort of peace with their estrangement. But Hannah does miss Mia, her niece, especially since Mark her husband never wanted children and she agreed. So when Diane and Mia land at her door out of the blue needing her help, Hannah isn't sure how to feel but she would do anything to reconnect with Mia so agrees that Mia can stay with them while Diane sorts out a few of her problems. But when Diane doesn't reappear after a week, they all start to worry but nobody is prepared for the truth. Diane has been hiding many things, some of which could destroy everyone she ever cared about ... S.D. Robertson writes excellent books about messy lives and true emotions and MY SISTER'S LIES is no exception. The characters have all mucked up in some shape or form which is relatable and as they try to navigate the secrets and lies, as a reader I could really feel their pain and shock, their heartache and their need. Yet again, this talented author made me cry with his words and I defy any of you to turn the last page and not feel a lump in your throat. The drama, the untruths, the pace, everything is perfectly executed in MY SISTER'S LIES and I highly recommend it to all readers who enjoy reading family dramas and emotional novels. This will definitely be on my list for top books for this year. AUTHOR BIO Former journalist S.D. Robertson quit his role as a local newspaper editor to pursue a lifelong ambition of becoming a novelist. An English graduate from the University of Manchester, he’s also worked as a holiday rep, door-to-door salesman, train cleaner, kitchen porter and mobile phone network engineer. Stuart lives in a village in North West England with his wife and daughter. There’s also his cat, Bernard, who likes to distract him from writing – usually by breaking things. ABOUT THIS BOOK Life in the beautiful Cotswolds village of Treweham could never be described as boring, but the arrival of a documentary film crew means that things are even busier than normal. For the ever-so dashing Lord of the Manor Tobias Cavendish-Blake and his new wife Megan, it's a great advertising opportunity as they've recently opened up their home, Treweham Hall, to the public. And for the chef at the local pub The Templar, Finula, the arrival of the brooding director Marcus Devlin, means her love life is looking up. Whilst at the racing stables, jockey and trainer Dylan Delaney is hoping the exposure will help him find new owners and horses for him and his partner Flora to train. But there is more to Marcus Devlin than meets the eye, and he has very personal reasons for heading to the Cotswolds. And once his plans become clear, life in Treweham may never be the same again. MY REVIEW A colourful story with plenty of antics to sink your teeth into, A COUNTRY RIVALRY by Sasha Morgan is an entertaining read that will appeal to romance and contemporary fiction fans alike. When a documentary film crew arrive in the quaint and close community of Treweham it will change so much for the inhabitants and in ways that are completely unexpected. For Tobias and Megan who are opening up their stately home to the public, they are delighted for the exposure that this will bring but they don't realise that someone is out to sabotage them at any cost. For the locals they hope that this will bring new customers to their doors and for local chef, Finula, it may just bring her that missing piece of the puzzle that has been lacking in her life - love. But as things start to go wrong, will everyone come together to make things right? An easy read, A COUNTRY RIVALRY by Sasha Morgan is the second book in this series and I recommend that you read the first book as it will help when connecting with the characters and the story to know the history of it all. The community and setting work really well and overall I found the characters fascinating and engaging. A COUNTRY RIVALRY by Sasha Morgan is an enjoyable story and well worth reading. AUTHOR BIO Sasha lives in a coastal village in Lancashire, in the North West of England with her husband and Labrador dog, Zac and has a grown up son. Besides novels, she writes articles, short stories and is on the writing team for a childrens publishers. She loves drinking wine, walking her dog and curling up with a good book.
