ABOUT THIS BOOK From convenient marriage… To inconvenient attraction! Industrialist Oliver—the new Marquess of Rashfield—has become Society’s most eligible bachelor. The problem is he’s already married! Honourable Oliver conveniently wed his best friend’s sister Lily years ago, but since then they’ve built separate, fulfilling lives. Now Lily has returned for a long-overdue divorce, but Oliver needs his Marchioness until he secures his inheritance. They've never shared a house…sparks are sure to fly! MY REVIEW A marriage of convenience allowed Oliver and Lily the freedom to create their own fulfilling lives - Lily now is an independent and successful businesswoman in France, while Oliver has focused on his own philanthropic interests. But when Lily feels it is time to now quietly divorce, they discover that there is a problem. For Oliver to inherit what is rightfully his, he must marry! There's only one solution - they must announce to the world that thinks he is single, that he is now married to Lily. But as they start to play the part of man and wife to convince society, will their actions turn to true, passionate feelings? And can two fiercely independent people, find a way to craft their future together? Compelling, romantic, and with plenty of ups and downs, HIS RUNAWAY MARCHIONESS RETURNS by Marguerite Kaye, is a romance with a difference. I loved the fact that it is a meeting of equals in this story - both Lily and Oliver respect each other and have built successful lives by themselves - so it feels like a meeting of minds when they hatch their plans. As always, the romance is heart-thumping and I love this period in time with Marguerite Kaye's wonderful descriptions bringing that world to life in my mind. HIS RUNAWAY MARCHIONESS RETURNS by Marguerite Kaye is a must-read for historical romance and romance fans alike. I look forward to the next book from this author. ABOUT THIS BOOK Constance Lysander needs a husband. Or, so society says. She’s about to give birth to her late husband’s child—a man who left her with zero money, and two other wives she didn’t know about. Thankfully, she has her Aunt by her side, and the two other wives have become close friends. But still—with a baby on the way, her shipping business to run, and an enemy skulking about, she has no time to find the perfect match. Enter Jonathan, Earl of Sykeston. Returned war hero and Constance’s childhood best friend, his reentry into society has been harsh. Maligned for an injury he received in the line of duty, Jonathan prefers to stay out of sight. It’s the only way to keep his heart from completely crumbling. But when a missive from Constance requests his presence—to their marriage ceremony—Jonathan is on board. His feelings for Constance run deep, and he’ll do anything to make her happy, though it means risking his already bruised heart. With Constance, Jonathan, and the new baby all together, it’s clear the wounds—both on the surface and in their relationship—run deep. But when the nights come, their wounds begin to heal, and both come to realize that their marriage of convenience is so much more than just a bargain. MY REVIEW A regency romance with heart and substance, RULES FOR ENGAGING THE EARL by Janna MacGregor is the perfect read to curl up with. Constance Lysander has always loved her best friend Jonathan and they have always been there for each other, but when he left her behind all those years ago, she married an unworthy man who was also married to two other women at the same time. Now she finds herself alone and about to have a child and she needs her best friend one final time. And this time she needs him to become her husband. Jonathan has always loved Constance but he is not the boy she once knew. His injuries have changed him to the core and he cannot be the man she deserves. But he will marry her and protect her in any way he can. As Constance tries to grow closer to her husband, Jonathan fights her at every turn but when someone evil threatens to destroy them both, will he be able to trust himself and Constance and the love that flares between them before it is too late? Well-paced, with plenty of sizzling tension, likeable characters, and action to keep you hooked, RULES FOR ENGAGING THE EARL is an historical romance that you will get lost in. Constance was my favourite character because she is strong, intelligent, and unwilling to settle for anything less than everything from those she loves, just as she gives her all. Jonathan is a more complicated character but as we slowly peel away some of his layers, we begin to understand why he is the way he is, and watching him love Constance's daughter was simply beautiful. RULES FOR ENGAGING THE EARL by Janna MacGregor is a wonderful read and is sure to please Regency romance readers everywhere. AUTHOR BIO Janna MacGregor was born and raised in the bootheel of Missouri. She is the author of the Cavensham Heiresses series, which begins with The Bad Luck Bride. ABOUT THIS BOOK If you could go back and follow the road not taken ... would you? For thirty-somethings Lindy, Ailbhe and Roe, the move to new, hyper-polished, luxury housing development Monteray Valley feels like slow death by Netflix, neighbourhood Whatsapp groups and Saturday nights in. The potential for exciting new possibilities seems to be withering faster than you can say 'postnatal dryness' as the women's lives are consumed by other halves and domestic obligations. Lindy's realising that her ambitions have been hijacked by her son's career. He's eleven. Meanwhile, despite years of self-sabotage, Ailbhe 'has it all': a successful business, a husband, a baby. If only having it all didn't also include having a fairly colossal secret. Then there's Roe who is busy trying for a baby -- a risky business when you're not sure you want one. Compiling a snag list to send to their builder sees the new friends contemplating their own personal snag lists -- their regrets and unfulfilled dreams - and inspires a business idea that's about to see life in Monteray Valley get a lot more interesting. Getting a second chance to carpe diem is irresistible, but can do-overs ever really work? And will revisiting past regrets threaten the lives they've made now? MY REVIEW Funny, intelligent, and current are just some of the words that I could use to describe THE SNAG LIST by Sophie White, but if I had to pick just one it would be unputdownable. Three smart, strong, and extremely likeable women find themselves living in a super exclusive, luxury housing estate where everything is discreetly managed by their smart system and staff - seriously, there is nothing that this development will not do for their picture-perfect residents. Except nobody's life is perfect. Lindy has lost a part of herself ever since her son's YouTube hobby became their sole business, and she's worried that she is about to lose her marriage to it too. Ailbhe is attractive, assertive, and has a wonderful husband and baby to boot. But her whole life is based on a secret that could bring her whole world tumbling down around her. And then there is Roe - quiet, unassuming Roe who yearns for her parents' approval and who has buried her own dreams to the back of her mind as her boyfriend plans their future, starting with a baby that she doesn't know if she even wants. When these three women become an unlikely trio of friends, they soon realise that burying their heads in the sand isn't going to work long-term, and as they try to help each other out with 'fixing' their issues, their friendship and love may just be the last thing standing. THE SNAG LIST by Sophie White is everything you could wish for in a novel and more. The characters are expertly crafted (loveable, relatable, flawed, hilarious, and inspiring), and the plotline is just plain addictive. Social Media is wonderful in so many ways but the harsher, nastier side of it is a reality too, and I loved how this was deftly woven through the story too. A snapshot of someone's life is just that, a snapshot. Female friendship and love are given centre stage in this story and I think that is what makes it the most special for me - no judgment, no cattiness, just women being there for women in the most supportive way they can, and I loved that. THE SNAG LIST by Sophie White is a must-read for 2022 and I have to say would make the perfect Irish tv drama (fingers crossed!). AUTHOR BIO Sophie White grew up in Dublin and has a first class honours degree in Fine Art from the National College of Art and Design. After moving to New Zealand in her early 20s, Sophie went on to train as a chef while there and worked in the French Alps for several years before returning to Dublin in 2012. Sophie began her writing career at age 27, when she started writing a weekly column 'The Domestic' for Sunday Independent's Life magazine. After the birth of her first child, she became a full-time writer, penning reviews of books and restaurants, cultural commentary and interviews for a variety of Irish publications and her first book Recipes for a Nervous Breakdown, part-memoir/part cookery book was published in 2016. Mother of Pod, the successful podcast she hosts with Jen O'Dwyer, was launched in January 2018 and they launched a second podcast, The Creep Dive, in January 2019. ABOUT THIS BOOK Three women. Three dates. One missing man... 8.52 a.m. Siobhan is looking forward to her breakfast date with Joseph. She was surprised when he suggested it - she normally sees him late at night in her hotel room. Breakfast on Valentine's Day surely means something ... so where is he? 2.43 p.m. Miranda's hoping that a Valentine's Day lunch with Carter will be the perfect way to celebrate her new job. It's a fresh start and a sign that her life is falling into place: she's been dating Carter for five months now and things are getting serious. But why hasn't he shown up? 6.30 p.m. Joseph Carter agreed to be Jane's fake boyfriend at an engagement party. They've not known each other long but their friendship is fast becoming the brightest part of her new life in Winchester. Joseph promised to save Jane tonight. But he's not here... Meet Joseph Carter. That is, if you can find him. MY REVIEW Three strong, intelligent, and very different women have dates on Valentine's Day but nothing prepares them for being stood up. They all thought that their guy was different and they want answers. But what if their guy is the same guy? As each of these women starts to learn more about the man that they have started to fall for, there will be twists and turns, and some shocking revelations that will bubble to the surface as the truth is finally revealed. I expected THE NO-SHOW by Beth O'Leary to be a light-hearted and humorous tale of the modern world of dating (and it has many moments of this) but I was not prepared for the depth of emotion that I would feel for these characters as all of their stories began to unfold, and the pieces of the puzzle that is Joseph Carter started to come together and make sense. I don't want to give too much away but so much of this book was unexpected in the best possible way, and I promise you that you will not regret reading this story. At a time when I have really been struggling to get lost in a book again, THE NO-SHOW by Beth O'Leary made it effortless and I was hooked after one page, so thank you, Beth! AUTHOR BIO Beth O'Leary is a Sunday Times bestselling author whose novels have been translated into more than thirty languages. Her debut, The Flatshare, sold over a million copies and changed her life completely. Her second novel, The Switch, has been optioned for film by Amblin Partners, Steven Spielberg's production company. The Road Trip, Beth's third novel, went straight to No.4 in the Sunday Times Top Ten on hardback publication. Beth writes her books in the Hampshire countryside with a very badly behaved Golden Retriever for company. If she's not at her desk, you'll usually find her curled up somewhere with a book, a cup of tea and several woolly jumpers (whatever the weather). ABOUT THIS BOOK A fete worse than death… After finding the killer of Lucy Roth six months ago, life has settled back to normal for bookshop owner, Nancy Hunter and her grandmother, Jane. The annual Dedley End village fete is just around the corner, and Nancy is delighted when bestselling author, Thomas Green, agrees to launch his first new novel in ten years there. But then a series of sinister events lead Nancy to realise someone is trying to sabotage their fete, so she, along with Jane and their journalist friend Jonathan, must turn detective to discover who isn’t at all thrilled about the return of Thomas Green. When a body is discovered at the summer fete, the death scene mirroring that in Thomas’ latest bestseller, they realise that there’s another killer in Dedley End, but can they outsmart someone who appears to have pulled off the perfect crime? The clues are right under Nancy and Jane’s noses, if only they can find them. Because the answers to life’s questions can always be found in a book…! MY REVIEW We are back in Dedley End, where for the last six months things have been quiet in the village, and Nancy and her grandmother Jane have focused on their lovely bookshop and their friends. With the summer fete coming up, it's all hands on deck and all eyes will be on their celebrity quest speaker, Thomas Green, a hugely successful crime writer that Nancy has organised to take part. But when someone defaces one of Thomas Green's pictures in the bookshop and threats are made against his safety, Nancy cannot help but worry that history may be about to repeat itself and Thomas could be in danger. And when a body is discovered on the day of the fete, Nancy, Jane, and Jonathan will have to don their detective hats once again to catch a killer. And just when Nancy and the community think that they can forget about the Roth family, a few familiar faces return to the village which is sure to make everyone feel on edge. I loved the first book in this series (Murder at the House on the Hill) so I could not wait to return to this quaint village with its wonderful collection of quirky characters. While Nancy and the gang do not want any harm to come to anyone, they cannot help but be a little excited at the prospect of solving another mystery. With plenty of twists and turns, misdirections and secrets, MURDER AT THE SUMMER FETE does not disappoint and I didn't want to put this book down, and I enjoyed it even more than the first book as I got to know Nancy and everyone on a deeper level and felt more connected to them. A fantastic cosy mystery with every component that you could possibly want, MURDER AT THE SUMMER FETE by Victoria Walters is an amazing read, and while it can be read independently, I fully recommend buying both books in the series as they are simply wonderful. AUTHOR BIO Victoria Walters writes up-lifting and inspiring stories. She's the author of the bestselling Glendale Hall series and two acclaimed standalone novels – Summer at the Kindness Cafe, and The Second Love of My Life. She has been chosen for WHSmith Fresh Talent, picked as an Amazon Rising Star, and shortlisted for two RNA awards. ABOUT THIS BOOK New Season. New Rules. Same deadly game... The Pantheon Games are the biggest underground event in the world, followed by millions online. New recruits must leave behind their twenty-first century lives and vie for dominance in a gruelling battle to the death armed only with ancient weapons – and their wits. Last season's new recruits Tyler and Lana have lived to fight another day, but now they face a series of even more lethal clashes before the Grand Battle that will end the Season. It's survival of the fittest, in the most brutal fashion imaginable. Lana must face the demons of her past, and Tyler has the mother of all targets on his back. MY REVIEW An action-packed, vicious battle to the death, The Pantheon Series packs a punch. Starting with THE WOLF MILE, we learn about an underground event that is followed by millions around the world, as contestants leave the current world behind and fight to the death. As the season begins we meet Tyler Maitland and Lana Cameron who will push themselves beyond anything they thought possible to survive. The idea of this book intrigued me but I wasn't sure if I would enjoy how it played out on the page, but I was not disappointed. With their own reasons to throw themselves into this vicious game, my heart was racing alongside Tyler and Lana as the game developed and they had to use their wits, talents, and strengths to make it to another day. And the ending certainly left me wanting more. Book two of The Pantheon Series comes back with a bang, and you better clear your schedules because THE BLOOD ISLES will need your undivided attention from beginning to end! Tyler and Lana are back in the ultimate game of survival of the fittest and this time there is even more on the line. Picking up where the first book in the series left off, we are thrown back into the game where previous relationships become deeper and I got to know the characters at a deeper level, as I learned more about who they are and what their lives were like before. With plenty of plot twists, mysteries, and fighting, this pacy novel didn't hold anything back. As in the previous book, there is action, battles, intrigue, and dark evilness that overshadows it all but THE BLOOD ISLES has managed to somehow step it up even more since the first book, and I could not put it down. If you are looking for a thrilling story with an intense edge, then The Pantheon Series is a must for you. An addictive series by a talented writer! AUTHOR INFO C.F. Barrington spent twenty years intending to write a novel, but found life kept getting in the way. Instead, his career has been in major gift fundraising, leading teams in organisations as varied as the RSPB, Oxford University and the National Trust. In 2015, when his role as Head of Communications at Edinburgh Zoo meant a third year of fielding endless media enquires about the possible birth of a baby panda, he finally retreated to a quiet desk and got down to writing. ABOUT THIS BOOK When journalist Jessie Daly loses everything she holds dear, she travels home to Ireland's west coast, and helps an old friend researching life during the famine. Jessie becomes drawn into the heartbreaking story of a brave young mother, Bridget Moloney, and her daughter, Norah. On the other side of the ocean, in Boston, Kaitlin Wilson is researching her family tree. She unearths a fascinating story, but her research forces her to confront uncomfortable truths about the past, as she uncovers an unexpected connection to Ireland in famine times. Generations before, in the small townland of Boherbreen, a young mother faced a heart-wrenching choice: to watch her baby girl perish with hunger, or to start out for a new life in America, alone, in order to protect the one she loves most - leaving behind only a letter. MY REVIEW The story of three strong and intelligent women connected in unexpected ways, THE LETTER HOME by Rachael English is a beautiful and heart-wrenching tale of love, family, and courage beyond imagination. Moving back to her rural childhood home with her tail between her legs is not the way Jessie Daly imagined her life was going to go. With her perfect sister lording it over her that she has let down the family once again, Jessie decides she just has to bite her tongue and suffer for the next few months at home before she can return to the city and try to get her old life back. When an old childhood friend asks Jessie to help him research a young mother who lived there during the famine, Jessie is happy to help and the more she starts to uncover about Bridget Moloney, the more she needs to know. Her research will bring her in contact with Kaitlin Wilson in Boston who has her own reasons for researching her family tree and as the two women uncover more about their history than they could ever think possible, there will be secrets, harsh realities, and tales of unbelievable courage and love brought to light. And in looking at the past, it may just help Jessie and Kaitlin figure out what they want from their own future. Every time I read one of Rachael's books I always feel it is my favourite, but THE LETTER HOME is definitely my favourite of her books so far! Three very different women with very different problems come to life on the page, and the realities of Ireland during the Famine are emotionally described bringing the utter despair and cruelty of what happened all those years ago to the forefront, as Jessie and Kaitlin learn about what happened to Bridget. I loved all three of these characters for different reasons but it was Bridget that stood out the most for me. Her determination, her selflessness, her absolute strength to keep going took my breath away, and while I learned about the horrors of the Famine at school, reading about it in this way, from a young mother's perspective made me emotional and made it hit home in ways that it never did before. Watching Jessie and Kaitlin try to deal with their own heartaches and problems as they learned about the past was special, and I can honestly say I did not put this book down until I turned the last page. THE LETTER HOME by Rachael English will make you laugh, will certainly make you cry, but most importantly it will make you stop and think of those who came before us, because in the wise words of Jessie's grandmother, Etty, 'I think what matters most is that we remember.' AUTHOR INFO Rachael English is a bestselling novelist and presenter on Ireland's most popular radio show, Morning Ireland. During more than twenty years as a journalist, she has worked on most of RTE Radio's leading current affairs programmes, covering a huge range of national and international stories. The American Girl, The Night of the Party and The Paper Bracelet were all top 5 Irish bestsellers. ABOUT THIS BOOK Ever so wholesome. Ever so deadly... When a local man is found murdered in an English Trust stately home, the community is shaken to its core. None more so than newcomer Astrid Swift, who finds the body. When she moved from London to the sleepy Dorset village and got a job at the house as an art restorer, she thought she was heading for a quieter life. Far from it. Because it turns out that rather than being the genteel organisation it seems on the surface, the Trust is a hotbed of politics and intrigue. As Astrid's new friend Kath from the village says: 'It's like the mafia, but with scones.' As the suspicious deaths mount up and the threat draws closer, Astrid must use every gadget in her restorer's toolkit to solve the mystery, save her reputation – and maybe even her life. MY REVIEW A cosy mystery with a wonderful collection of quirky characters, THE TRUST by M.H. Eccleston is an entertaining and enjoyable read from start to finish. Astrid Swift loves her perfectly ordered life with her perfectly ordered job and her perfectly ordered relationship with her husband (and boss), Simon. But when she accidentally discovers that he has cheated on her with her best friend, she needs to get away from him, and the country house that her Uncle left her in his will, seems like the perfect idea. Except the house is a run-down old houseboat that needs a lot of tlc, and when Astrid walked out on Simon, she also walked out on her career. But luckily for Astrid, the local Trust is looking for an art restorer for the local stately home and as she begins to get to know the locals and even make some friends, things might just be looking up. Until Astrid discovers a dead body on the grounds of Sherborne Hall and realises that the local policeman doesn't seem to be up to scratch to catch the killer. As the bodies begin to pile up, can Astrid uncover the truth before the murderer strikes again or will she become the next victim? THE TRUST by M.H. Eccleston is the perfect book to cosy up on the couch with of an evening with a cup of tea. The setting is fantastic and I love stories centred around small communities where you can really get to know the characters. Astrid isn't immediately likeable as she comes across as snobbish and condescending at times, but as she settles into her new life, she starts to relax and re-evaluate many things and becomes much more relatable and loveable. I always enjoy a good mystery and this one does not disappoint - is it the formidable English Trust who are knocking people off in their own backyards, or, is it someone closer to home? You'll have to read it to find out. Throw in an ex-husband arriving at the worst possible time, new friendships, rivalry between the elderly volunteers, and the possibility of a new romance, and Astrid's fresh start has become a lot more complicated than she could ever have imagined. I thoroughly enjoyed THE TRUST and I cannot wait for more from M.H. Eccleston. AUTHOR INFO M.H. Eccleston has had a fairly meandering career – starting out as a radio presenter for the BBC, then staying at the Beeb as a journalist and producer for six years. After that, it's a bit of a blur – he spent a couple of decades, at least, freelancing as a foreign correspondent, TV presenter, voice-over artist and film critic. For the last few years he's been a full-time screenwriter and now novelist, with some wildlife gardening in the summer to keep himself sane and pay the bills.
