Book Depository - www.bookdepository.com Amazon UK - Death in Profile - book 1 of the Hampstead Murders Amazon US - www.amazon.com BLURB The genteel façade of London’s Hampstead is shattered by a series of terrifying murders, and the ensuing police hunt is threatened by internal politics, and a burgeoning love triangle within the investigative team. Pressurised by senior officers desperate for a result a new initiative is clearly needed, but what? Intellectual analysis and police procedure vie with the gut instinct of ‘copper’s nose’, and help appears to offer itself from a very unlikely source – a famous fictional detective. A psychological profile of the murderer allows the police to narrow down their search, but will Scotland Yard lose patience with the team before they can crack the case? Praised by fellow authors and readers alike, this is a truly original crime story, speaking to a contemporary audience yet harking back to the Golden Age of detective fiction. Intelligent, quirky and mannered, it has been described as ‘a love letter to the detective novel’. Above it all hovers Hampstead, a magical village evoking the elegance of an earlier time, and the spirit of mystery-solving detectives. MY REVIEW DEATH IN PROFILE by Guy Fraser-Sampson is the first book in the Hampstead Murders series and is unlike any other modern crime fiction novel that is currently out there. Faced with a psychopath raping and murdering women, the constabulary of Hampstead are under pressure to find their man and find him soon. As they begin to work with a profiler, the evidence begins to slot into place, but looks can often be deceiving. As the lead detectives, Collison, Metcalfe, and Willis take an alternative approach to their investigations, and focus a lot more on research, psychological theory, and dipping into literary fiction for ideas, we get to delve into another side of crime fiction reminiscent of the mysteries of old, which makes the reader really stop and evaluate what is unfolding on the page. With added pressure from the top, death, despair, literary throwbacks, and confusing personal relationships, DEATH IN PROFILE by Guy Fraser-Sampson is perfectly paced so that the reader never gets bored. This book is so much more than an excellent crime novel or a good mystery. It is a novel that delves deep into the characters beliefs and intelligence, into society at large, and takes the reader on a compelling and enthralling journey from beginning to end. I cannot wait to begin reading MISS CHRISTIE REGRETS which is the second instalment in this mesmerising new series. BOOK RATING - 📖📖📖📖📖 5++++++++++++++++++++++++ Author Bio: Guy Fraser-Sampson is an established writer best known for his series of ‘Mapp and Lucia’ novels which have been featured on BBC Radio 4 and optioned by BBC television. Originally a corporate lawyer, he currently teaches at Cass Business School and acts as a board advisor to high growth companies. MY REVIEW Fallon and Alaric have always had a tempestuous relationship ever since the first day they met when they were only children. Against the backdrop of war, power, and death, the heat that flares between them continues to grow even though they are on opposite sides - Fallon a Saxon determined to get revenge for her fellow Englishmen, and Alaric a Norman who will fight to the death to protect those he cares about. Book length - 354 pages Book Depository - www.bookdepository.com Amazon UK - Sisters One, Two, Three Amazon US - www.amazon.com BLURB After a tragic accident on Martha’s Vineyard, keeping secrets becomes a way of life for the Tangle family. With memories locked away, the sisters take divergent paths. Callie disappears, Mimi keeps so busy she has no time to think, and Ginger develops a lifelong aversion to risk that threatens the relationships she holds most dear. When a whispered comment overheard by her rebellious teenage daughter forces Ginger to reveal a long-held family secret, the Tangles’ carefully constructed web of lies begins to unravel. Upon the death of Glory, the family’s colorful matriarch, and the return of long-estranged Callie, Ginger resolves to return to Martha’s Vineyard and piece together what really happened on that calamitous day when a shadow fell over four sun-kissed siblings playing at the shore. Along with Ginger’s newfound understanding come the keys to reconciliation: with her mother, with her sisters, and with her daughter. At turns heartbreaking, humorous, and hopeful, Sisters One, Two, Three explores not only the consequences of secrets—even secrets kept out of love—but also the courage it takes to speak the truth, to forgive, and to let go. MY REVIEW SISTERS ONE, TWO, THREE by Nancy Star is not a light, easy contemporary read, but rather a deeply emotional, heartfelt story about family dynamics, loss, and love. Traumatised by a tragic accident in their past, we learn about the lives of three sisters who have coped with that moment in time in their own ways. Ginger is a nurse, married to easy-going Richard, and raising her seventeen-year-old daughter Julia. Desperate to prevent any harm from coming to them, she suffocates those she loves around her in her bid to ensure their safety. Her sister Mimi is always busy, rushing around in her own way, and then there is their youngest sister Callie who disappears on her travels, leaving them unaware of what is happening in her life. As Ginger struggles to keep control of her daughter, the sisters are forced to come together and face the past, but maybe they can find some peace in the truth. SISTERS ONE, TWO, THREE by Nancy Star flows easily from start to finish, and with flawed, realistic characters, you cannot help but be caught up in their grief, as they try to find their way through their individual versions of what happened in the past, and find a way to move on in their future. A truly emotional read. BOOK RATING - 📖📖📖📖 4 Author Bio: Nancy Star, the author of five novels, started out in the movie business where her first job was scouting for books to turn into movies. Book length - 233 pages Amazon UK - Those Who Lie: the gripping new thriller you won't be able to stop talking about Amazon US - www.amazon.com BLURB Emily Klein doesn’t know her husband has died until the day of his funeral. But, as she pieces together the events before his death – events which led to her own memory loss – Emily begins to suspect that his death may not have been such a tragic accident after all. If only she could remember… The question is: are there some memories which Emily should leave alone? MY REVIEW Emily Klein has tried hard to move on from her abusive childhood and the night surrounding the death of her father when she was just a teenager. Now she is married to Greg and living in a beautiful home, she is content with her art studio, and her close relationship with her sister Amanda, half-brother Matt, and best friend Pippa. But when she wakes up in the hospital she discovers that her husband is dead, and the police are investigating the accident in which she was the driver. If only she could remember exactly what happened that day. As time passes, Emily is starting to worry that she is losing her mind as she catches a glimpse of Greg in his car, receives messages from him, and even thinks she sees her father walking away from her one day. As Emily starts to piece together what is happening, everything takes a much darker and more sinister turn. THOSE WHO LIE by Diane Jeffrey is an unbelievably twisted and haunting psychological thriller that will make the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end. With a deeply disturbing plot and gripping characters, I literally could not put this book down until I had reached the ending - and what an ending! Book length - 312 pages Book Depository - www.bookdepository.com Amazon UK - The Silk Weaver Amazon US - www.amazon.com BLURB Anna Butterfield moves from her Suffolk country home to her uncle's house in London, to be introduced to society. A chance encounter with a local silk weaver, French immigrant Henri, throws her from her privileged upbringing to the darker, dangerous world of London's silk trade. Henri is working on his 'master piece' to make his name as a master silk weaver; Anna meanwhile is struggling against the constraints of her family and longing to become an artist. Henri realizes that Anna's designs could lift his work above the ordinary, and give them both an opportunity for freedom . . . This is a charming story of illicit romance, set against the world of the burgeoning silk trade in 18th century Spitalfields - a time of religious persecution, mass migration, racial tension and wage riots, and ideas of what was considered 'proper' for women. MY REVIEW THE SILK WEAVER by Liz Trenow is a beautifully written historical novel that will bring you on an emotional journey from start to finish. Anna Butterfield finds herself thrust into London society after the death of her mother, and she struggles with the rigidity of society's rules, and what is deemed acceptable for proper ladies of the eighteenth century. Intelligent and determined she wants more from her life than mundane drudgery, and she yearns to be an artist. And when Anna accidentally meets Henri, a French immigrant and silk weaver, together they may be able to grasp everything their hearts desire. But with opposition from every side, and tensions boiling in the streets of London, Anna and Henri's path together will not be smooth. With exquisite detail, silk weaving and London at that time is brought to life among the pages, and we get to experience it in all its shades and colours - including the harsher tones of life and love at that period of history. THE SILK WEAVER by Liz Trenow is a compelling historical novel and I highly recommend it. BOOK RATING - 📖📖📖📖📖 5+ Author Bio: Liz Trenow's family have been silk weavers for nearly three hundred years, and the company is one of only three still operating in the UK today, weaving for top-end fashion houses and royal commissions. It is this remarkable silk heritage that has inspired many of Liz's four novels, including the most recent The Silk Weaver (UK pub Jan 2017) It will be published in the US as The Hidden Thread in May 2017. It is set in London in the 1760s in the very house in which the family company began, just down the road from where the pre-eminent silk designer Anna Maria Garthwaite lived at the same time. It is the unknown early life of Anna Maria that has inspired the plot, set against the historical backdrop of racial tension and industrial unrest. With beautiful illustrations of Anna Maria designs throughout, this will be a book to treasure. Available on - www.amazon.com | www.amazon.co.uk www.bookdepository.com BLURB It’s time to stop waiting for prince charming and rescue yourself No matter how strong and independent Tess Morgan appeared on the outside, she was always let down by her inner five-year-old – who persistently believed that one day her Prince would come. Real life is tough. For Tess, her job with struggling local radio station Atlantic 1FM is very tough. Between dealing with the demands of her megalomaniac presenter Ollie Andrews, her neurotic boss Helene Harper and the crazy workload associated with her role as producer on the This Morning programme, sometimes she just wants someone who will make all the problems go away. Helene, meanwhile, is having difficulties of her own. Coming up to her fortieth milestone birthday, her career has taken a wrong turning down an unpleasant cul-de-sac and she’s becoming impatient for the day when her married lover will make an honest woman of her. Things go from bad to worse when Atlantic 1FM is suddenly bought over by mogul Jack McCabe, who immediately launches a competition for a new star at the station. Soon nerves are frayed and friendships strained as everyone battles to keep their jobs. Tess gets back in touch with the ex she still thinks of as The One Who Got Away. Helene tries to pull strings with her influential lover. But what will it take for both women to stop playing Cinderella and find a way to launch their own rescue? MY REVIEW THE CINDERELLA REFLEX by Joan Brady is an easy, contemporary read that will make you smile in all of the right places. Tess and Helene are poles apart in personality but find themselves equally unsatisfied in where they are in their lives. While a lot of Tess' friends have established careers and are getting married, she has just returned from travelling her twenties away, and her only real relationship ended in heartbreak. Helene has worked hard to get where she is in the radio business but ever since starting an affair with her boss, her own goals have been pushed aside to be there for him. When it becomes obvious that things are going to get shaken up at the station with the arrival of the new station owner, it is obvious to everyone that life is going to change. With plenty of crazy characters and madcap misunderstandings along the way, will Tess and Helene find a way to be the main characters in their own lives? While at times the pace of the story was a little slow for my liking, overall I enjoyed The Cinderella Reflex by Joan Brady. Book length - 480 pages Book Depository - www.bookdepository.com Amazon UK - Her Husband's Lover Amazon US - www.amazon.com BLURB Sophie Hannah says Julia Crouch is 'brilliant' and Erin Kelly calls her 'one of the best writers in a strong field'. A woman has to stop her husband's lover from ruining her life in this stunning psychological thriller from the acclaimed Julia Crouch. She stole her husband. Now she wants to take her life. After the horrors of the past, Louisa Williams is desperate to make a clean start. Her husband Sam is dead. Her children, too, are gone, victims of the car accident in which he died. Sam said that she would never get away from him. That he would hound her to death if she tried to leave. Louisa never thought that he would want to harm their children though. But then she never thought that he would betray her with a woman like Sophie. And now Sophie is determined to take all that Louisa has left. She wants to destroy her reputation and to take what she thinks is owed her - the life she would have had if Sam had lived. Her husband's lover wants to take her life. The only question is will Louisa let her? MY REVIEW In this deeply disturbing psychological thriller, we meet Louisa Williams who is trying to build a new life for herself after the car accident that ripped her world apart. Dealing with the death of Sam, the loss of her children, and scarred for life, Louisa has left her past behind her and moved to the city, in the hopes of creating a different future than the one she always thought she would have. Leaving her married name behind, she becomes Lou Turner again. With a new apartment, a new job, and a new caring, younger man, Louisa starts to feel confident again and that everything is a little brighter. But when her husband's lover, Sophie, tracks her down and starts demanding money, Louisa's past is soon firmly mixed with her present. Sophie wants the money that she feels her daughter, Sam's daughter, is entitled to, but more than that she wants to clear Sam's name and she will stop at nothing to expose Louisa for the liar she believes her to be. With plenty of twists, turns, and unbelievable shocks (trust me you will be shouting OMG about twenty times!) HER HUSBAND'S LOVER by Julia Crouch is a pure masterpiece of crime fiction. Fast-paced, with gripping characters, and exquisite detail, HER HUSBAND'S LOVER by Julia Crouch is a must-read for 2017!! BOOK RATING - 📖📖📖📖📖 5+++++++++++++ Author Bio: Julia Crouch grew up in Cambridge and studied Drama at Bristol University. She spent ten years working as a theatre director and playwright, then, after a spell of teaching, she somehow became a successful graphic and website designer, a career she followed for another decade while raising her three children. An MA in sequential illustration reawoke her love of narrative and a couple of Open University creative writing courses brought it to the fore. Cuckoo, her first novel, emerged as a very rough draft during NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) in 2008. A year's editing got it ready for submission to an agent and within a couple of months she had a book deal with Headline and had given up the day job. Every Vow You Break, her second novel, was published in March 2012, and Tarnished, her third, came out in 2013. She is also published in Italy, France, Germany, Holland, Brazil and China. She works in a shed at the bottom of the Brighton house she shares with her husband, the actor and playwright Tim Crouch, their three children, two cats called Keith and Sandra, and about twelve guitars. She is a self-confessed geek and fights a daily battle to resist tinkering with the code on her website. The only thing that is crystal clear is that something in this marriage is very, very wrong, but Louise can’t guess how wrong―and how far a person might go to protect their marriage’s secrets. MY REVIEW I am struggling to write this review because all I really want to say is HOLY CRAP - READ THIS BOOK!!!!!! Many of you may have seen the #wtfthatending in relation to BEHIND HER EYES and it is the perfect hashtag. Sarah Pinborough manages to ensnare the reader straight away into the complicated marriage and lives of David and Adele, and like the other main character, Louise, we desperately try to put together all the pieces of the puzzle to try and make sense of the strange relationship that they have together. But nothing will prepare you for the truth. This twisted thriller portrays the dark and disturbing tones of the plot excellently throughout, and I found my heart beating faster as I got sucked into this psychological minefield and the emotions of the characters. But NOTHING prepared me for the ending. After finishing this book I struggled to forget about it and found myself thinking, what an incredibly terrifying story. BEHIND HER EYES by Sarah Pinborough is a psychological thriller like no other, and if you only read one book this year, make it this one. BOOK RATING - 📖📖📖📖📖5++++++++++++++(WHICH MEANS YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK😊) Author Bio: Sarah Pinborough is a critically acclaimed adult and YA author based in London.
