ABOUT THIS BOOK She left him. That doesn't mean she's forgotten him. When paparazzi mistake Nina Menendez for a supermodel, she takes refuge in her ex’s New York penthouse. Big mistake. Guarded Reve Weston is incapable of emotional intimacy—and is intensely seductive… Reve has had enough of scandal. To keep his name out of the tabloids, he insists Nina stay with him. But as their spark reignites and she shares the mysteries of her past, Reve realizes his cynicism has a downside. If he can’t give Nina the fairy tale she dreams of, he’ll have to let her go…for good! MY REVIEW With sizzling chemistry, the drama of the fashion world, and a shocking secret, MANHATTAN'S MOST SCANDALOUS REUNION by Dani Collins is everything you could want in a modern-day romance with that little bit of magic added on top. When aspiring fashion designer, Nina Menendez finds herself being chased down the street by paparazzi, she isn't given the opportunity to explain that they have the wrong person and that she is not the international supermodel that they think she is, even though she shares a remarkable resemblance. No, instead Nina finds herself rushing into the only building she recognises, that of her ex, Reve, the man she loves completely but who only used her and then discarded her when he was finished. The last thing Reve needs is publicity and the woman who haunts his dreams arriving on his doorstep but when Nina arrives he cannot help but want to protect her, even though he wonders if it is just an act to get back into his life. But as they spend time together and begin to unravel the truth about Nina's past, Reve starts to understand that he may have made a mistake, and as Nina's life changes drastically, will he be able to break down the hard walls that he has had to build around his heart to survive, and let her in? Or will he walk away forever? Fashion, drama, fiery romance, and secrets from the past - this story has it all! The second book in this series, this book can easily be read as a standalone but why have one great romance when you can have two, right? Nina is kind and compassionate and I enjoyed getting to see her shine through her fashion design, as well as become more confident about who she is and what she wants. Reve is a strong, powerful character who was greatly hurt and let down as a child, and I wanted him to learn to trust Nina and believe that she loves him completely for himself. MANHATTAN'S MOST SCANDALOUS REUNION by Dani Collins is a fabulous romance and I look forward to reading more from this author. EXCERPT Dear God, they were everywhere. She was surrounded. Her airway tightened and her wild gaze swerved every direction, seeking a path of escape. A blue-and-silver awning struck her eyes. She had walked in this direction unconsciously on purpose because, deep down, she was a masochist. Normally, she would have stayed on this side of the street and glared upward as she walked by, but in her agitation, she darted straight for the entrance, not computing that she was running into traffic. A car squealed its brakes and stopped on a dime right before it would have struck her. The driver laid on the horn, then honked again as the horde of cameramen chased her, all of them batting and bumping into the car in their haste to get around it. Nina brushed past the startled doorman and ran inside, straight to the security desk where Amir sat today. “I’m sorry. Please, can I stand here a few minutes while I figure out what to do? They won’t leave me alone.” She was quivering with reaction, breathless and barely able to speak. She looked back to see the doorman holding out his arms while he ordered the men, “Back off! No entry.” Amir frowned at her, then at the disruption outside. One of the men evaded the doorman and pressed his camera lens to the window, clicking and flashing through the glass. Amir picked up his phone and dialed. Was he calling the police? Nina’s scrambled brain tried to decide whether she should involve them. “It’s Amir, sir. Ms. Menendez is here in the lobby.” “What?” she whispered. “I didn’t come here to see him.” Her stomach began to churn. She held her breath in dread-filled anticipation. “Yes, I understand, sir. But she seems upset.” Her heart stalled out. How humiliating. After seducing her and leading her on, Reve had dumped her when she had asked if he wanted to meet her father. Three months later, he didn’t even want to see her. She covered her face, turning her back to the windows so she had a shred of privacy while she tried to think of where she could go or who she might call. The few friends she’d made in New York had fallen away when she’d been fired and moved in with Reve. And the friend who’d gotten her today’s interview lived in London. The one who was loaning her his studio was backpacking in Australia. She didn’t know what to do. She was upset by more than the fact those men had chased her. It was everything that had happened lately. Her ears were rushing with the sound of her galloping pulse. Her life was falling apart at the seams, but she couldn’t crawl home this time. Where was home? Who was she? “Miss…” Amir’s voice was loud enough to make her jerk her head up. His frown told her he’d had to repeat himself to get her attention. She saw he had opened the doors for Reve’s private elevator. “Mr. Weston will see you. Would you like me to come with you? You seem unsteady.” She stared into the elevator, longing to see Reve even though she knew he only pretended to rescue damsels. Deep down, he was more of a dragon who lured them in and ate them. Still, she could hear the doorman arguing with the men outside. She had to leave the lobby so they would disperse. She desperately needed to be transported out of her entire overturned, mixed-up life, and, God knows, Reve’s world was the furthest thing from her own. AUTHOR BIO When Canadian Dani Collins found romance novels in high school she wondered how one trained for such an awesome job. She wrote for over two decades without publishing, but remained inspired by the romance message that if you hang in there you'll find a happy ending. In May of 2012, Harlequin Presents bought her manuscript in a two-book deal. She's since published more than thirty books with them and is definitely living happily ever after. ABOUT THESE BOOKS The Kiss Quotient It's high time for Stella Lane to settle down and find a husband - or so her mother tells her. This is no easy task for a wealthy, successful woman like Stella, who also happens to have Asperger's. Analyzing data is easy; handling the awkwardness of one-on-one dates is hard. To overcome her lack of dating experience, Stella decides to hire a male escort to teach her how to be a good girlfriend. Faced with mounting bills, Michael decides to use his good looks and charm to make extra cash on the side. He has a very firm no repeat customer policy, but he's tempted to bend that rule when Stella approaches him with an unconventional proposal. The more time they spend together, the harder Michael falls for this disarming woman with a beautiful mind, and Stella discovers that love defies logic. The Bride Test Khai Diep has no feelings. Well, not big, important emotions - like grief. And love. He thinks he's defective. His family knows better - that his autism means he just processes emotions differently. When he steadfastly refuses to consider a relationship, his mother takes matters into her own hands and returns to Vietnam to find him the perfect bride. As a mixed-race girl living in the slums of Ho Chi Minh City, Esme Tran has always felt out of place. So when the opportunity arises to go to America and meet a potential husband, she can't turn it down. This could be the break her family needs. Seducing Khai, however, doesn't go quite as planned. Esme's lessons in love seem to be working... but only on herself. She's hopelessly smitten with a man who's convinced he can never return her affection. As Esme's time in the United States dwindles, will Khai let his head catch up with his heart? Will he find the strength to let go, and let love in? MY REVIEW With exquisite characters that I connected with instantly and love connections that I became obsessed with, it is no wonder that I could not put down both The Kiss Quotient and The Bride Test and devoured them one after the other. In both of these books we are introduced to beautiful characters that are struggling with their romantic lives - well, their families are struggling to be more precise. In The Kiss Quotient, we meet Stella who has a super successful career and loves her job analysing data but she also wants to please her mother who wants to see her married with babies. Stella has found that her brief interludes with men have been anything but romantic so she decides to approach it like she does everything else in her life - analytically. So that means hiring a man that can teach her how to be with someone. But she didn't bet on Michael and how he makes her feel. Michael has his reasons for doing what he does but meeting Stella changes everything for him, but he believes Stella deserves someone so much better than him. Can their business arrangement become so much more? In The Bride Test, we get to know Khai who believes that he is incapable of big emotions like love and grief. He works, he trains, he spends time with his family, and that is his life. So when his mum brings him home a bride and gives them the summer to figure out if they're a match, he is shocked. He doesn't want Esme in his space, changing everything, and throwing him out of his routine. But Esme understands and accepts Khai in a way that nobody has ever done before and feelings soon blossom even though Khai is certain that he cannot fall in love. As both Esme and Khai get closer to the time when they are supposed to get married, will they find their happily-ever-after or will Khai let Esme go forever? Romance, sizzling heat, laughter, and tears, these books have got it all and I cannot wait for the next book in this series (The Heart Principle on 2nd September)! Stella and Khai are engaging and loveable characters and I was instantly invested in both of their stories and wanted them to find romantic happiness. Both of these books are compelling, wonderfully addictive, and I genuinely believe should be on everyone's shelf. THE KISS QUOTIENT and THE BRIDE TEST by Helen Hoang are truly excellent from start to finish and a must-read for all romance readers. Book length - 310 pages Publisher - Black & White BUY LINKS: Worldwide - www.bookdepository.com UK - www.amazon.co.uk US - www.amazon.com Ireland - www.bookstation.ie I want to thank Janne from blackandwhitepublishing.com for the opportunity to take part in this blog tour and for providing me with a copy of this book for review. ABOUT THIS BOOK Meet Lexie Byrne. The big 4-0 is looming, but she's perfectly content without a man. How else could she watch movies on repeat and eat crisp sandwiches in bed? Finally free of her love-rat ex, she's never settling again. Nothing less than 'The One' will do. Then, after an electrifying encounter on a wild St Patrick’s Day, Lexie takes a leap of faith and a flight across the Irish Sea. But as sparks fly, Lexie's dreams take a serious nosedive. Until an arrival no one anticipated . . . MY REVIEW I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!!! Okay, now that I've gotten that off my chest, hopefully, I'll be able to put it into words just how wonderfully enjoyable this story is from start to finish. Lexie Byrne is about to leave her 30s and she is ready to live her life the way she wants it and that includes no more relationships with users that don't deserve her. If love comes her way she will settle for nothing less than her perfect Hollywood ending with someone that was destined to be her leading man. But if that doesn't happen she has wonderful friendships and a life that she enjoys. And then she has a moment. You know that moment in the movie when the two main characters meet and there is just that spark, that something that can't be explained but they know that they were meant to meet and meant to be together. When Lexie has that moment, she throws caution to the wind and finds herself leaving Ireland for love, but like in the movies, love is never that simple. Will Lexie get to live out her rom-com happily-ever-after or is life just too complicated for love? THE UNEXPECTED LOVE STORY OF LEXIE BYRNE is everything you could want and more in a novel - laughter (seriously, you will laugh a lot), drama, misunderstandings, Dirty Dancing references, and that pinch of magic that makes this story unputdownable. The characters are sublime and I love how the importance and power of true friendship are portrayed throughout - friends who are always there for you with honesty and love, no matter what. Lexie's character is in a class of her own and I instantly felt like I knew her and I desperately wanted her to find the type of love that she deserved. THE UNEXPECTED LOVE STORY OF LEXIE BYRNE (AGED 39 1/2) by Caroline Grace-Cassidy is a must-read this Summer and I cannot wait for more from one of my favourite authors. www.foulplaygame.co.uk A game for 2 – 5 players | Age 8 + Something a little different on the blog today where myself and my family have reviewed this exciting new murder mystery card game. Thank you to Zoe from zooloosbookdiary.co.uk for the opportunity to take part in this gaming tour. Here's everything you need to know: The Game Carabosse the Bad Fairy is dead, and her Big Book of Villainy has been stolen... In a shocking revelation, the magic mirror has revealed that all the suspects are goodies, but who had a motive to go bad? You’ll need to swap, steal and search for the evidence in order to scupper the other detectives and sleuth your way to your happily ever after! There's more than one way to catch a killer though. So what's it gonna be? Good Cop or Bad Cop? These two game versions come with their own set of rules and tactics to crack the case and finger your suspect, but will you use fair play or FOUL PLAY? The Game is Afoot! Playing as detective, you’ll need to find the three evidence cards that point to a specific suspect in order to catch a killer in this crazy criminal caper. Will you uncover them in the crime scene? Could the other detectives be willing to collaborate and share their findings? Or will you resort to more tricky tactics, and plunder the proof you need to solve this crime? Our Review We love board games in our house and regularly have game nights so I was delighted to get a chance to review a new family card game, and a murder mystery to boot! In the storybook world, the Big Book of Villainy has gone missing and the evil fairy has been murdered. But who would do such a thing? Is it the usual evil suspects or have some of our classical good characters turned to the dark side? It is up to you to uncover the truth, and the first detective to unmask the killer is the winner. There are two ways to play this game (as a good cop or a bad cop) and each have their own rules to follow which are clearly marked out for you. After a practice run with the setup of the game and the rules, we all got down to business and it was cutthroat - my kids had no qualms in stealing my evidence cards and swapping out suspects 🤣 There were lots of laughs and shouts of 'you can't do that' and then the joy when someone bet it all and declared they knew who the culprit was, only to be proven wrong! Brilliant! The card game is aged 8+ which I think is appropriate and with 2-5 players it works well for small and larger groups. The cards themselves are very well made with excellent illustrations and trust me when I say you will need to study them closely. I love card games as they are perfect for taking away with you on holidays, or on visits to friends and family, as they are so compact and will fit in anyone's pocket. FOUL PLAY is a delightfully entertaining murder mystery game which can be replayed over and over again, and I cannot wait for more from this creative company. History of Foul Play What’s a Murder Mystery Events Company to do? With a pandemic sweeping the nation and no sign of being able to perform their confounding criminal cabarets or incredible interactive investigations any time soon, they needed to come up with a plan, another way to provide mystery to the masses (and provide income to keep themselves afloat)! Well, lockdown does strange things to people, especially actors who can't go out and perform. So one fateful evening, Ben & Lee Cooper-Muir decided to come up with a whole new way to murder people. Keeping their cards close to their chests they plotted and schemed until Foul Play : The Murder Mystery Card Game was born. So, what to do next? This is where After Dark enters the picture. After all, Ben and Lee were two of the operators of the infamous murder mystery company. Maybe they could collaborate to bring the game to the masses. When Lockdown restrictions were eased a top-secret meeting was held with the other criminal masterminds behind After Dark, Helen Burrows, Sophie Webster & Tom Fisher and a pact was made. The game would be launched and licensed under the After Dark banner. In true After Dark style, the team burst into action and then began the beta testing, design updates, promotional planning, character changes, proofing, proofing and more proofing until finally all the kinks were ironed out, mysteries solved, and FOUL PLAY : Manor House Murder came to life! The team didn’t stop there though! Due to the popularity of the first game, a second version ‘Once Upon A Crime’ was put on the table, designed, and then launched on Kickstarter. Fully funded in under 48 hours the team at After Dark had another success on their hands and players had another murder in theirs! Once Upon A Crime hits the stores on 1st July 2021 and Manor House Murder is available to buy too. We hope you enjoy playing it, and although we all hope to be back performing soon, WATCH THIS SPACE! Now we know we can create and produce games we've got a lot more fun things planned for the future!
