ABOUT THIS BOOK A tragic accident leaves the tight-knit book club in the small seaside town of Fairweather reeling. Then stranger Tom McLysaght arrives in the community, and the members of the club find their lives changing in ways they never could have imagined. None of them realise that Tom is hiding a secret. On the surface, his move to Fairweather was to escape his highflying life in London and to put some much-needed distance between him and his ex-fiancée - but deep down Tom knows that there are some things he cannot run from. As the months pass with book club gatherings, secrets are shared and hurts begin to heal. New friendships might be the last thing on their minds but the members of the book club are about to discover that opening themselves up to other people might be the only thing that will help them all to live, and to love, again. MY REVIEW An emotional and heartwarming story about community spirit, grief, and hope, THE BOOK CLUB by Roisin Meaney is everything you could wish for in a novel and then some. It's been two years since a tragic accident left the small community of Fairweather heartbroken and in shock. But when Beth Sullivan decides that it is time to rent out the house next door, it brings Tom McLysaght into their lives and slowly things start to change for everyone. Tom is trying to escape the demons from his past, and this quiet village seems the perfect place to do that. But this community has a way of pulling you in and he cannot help but feel connected to these people. There's Lil, Beth's granddaughter, who hasn't spoken since the accident and has dedicated her life to the community library that sits at the bottom of her grandmother's garden. There's Olive and her husband Fred, who run the gift shop and the local pub, who have their hands full with their adopted almost-teenage daughter when an unexpected surprise lands their way. There's Mark, Fred's father, who will do anything for those he loves and has some secrets of his own. And finally, there's Beth, Tom's landlady, whose bark is definitely worse than her bite once you get to know her. Tom wanted solitude but instead, through the book club and small library looking over the cliffs, he finds so much more. And when you read this book, you will too. I've recently lost someone very close to me and I wasn't sure how reading a book that has grief as one of its elements would affect me but I have to say it gave me a little bit of calm in my sadness and for that, I will be forever thankful. Now don't get me wrong, this book is not doom and gloom but rather a beautifully realistic take on life and learning to live again. I adored all of the characters in the compelling community of Fairweather and could picture each one and each place as I turned the page. Olive was one of my favourites and there is a ring of truth in every one of the characters in this story and I've no doubt you'll find yourself saying 'sure, we all know a Beth or an Olive'. It is a story about love and friendship, about being there for each other even when that is uncomfortable or unwanted at times, about kindness and community, and finally about finding the good things in life when everything seems grey. THE BOOK CLUB by Roisin Meaney is exquisite in every possible way and will hold a special place on my bookshelf and in my heart for when I need to visit Fairweather again. ABOUT THIS BOOK Ever felt like you were living in a dystopian tech thriller? That's because you are... Michael is out of his depth. The closest he ever came to working in tech was when he rode a delivery bike for a food app in Vancouver. Yet when his coder girlfriend dies, he is inexplicably headhunted by sinister tech mogul Campbell Fess, who transplants him to Silicon Valley. There, a reluctant female spy named Aoife lures him into the hands of Towse, an enigmatic war-gamer, who tricks them both into joining his quest to save the world, and reality itself, from the deadliest weapon ever invented. Hunted by government agents and corporate goons, manipulated at every turn by the philosophising Towse, Aoife and Michael find themselves in an intercontinental chase which will take them from California to New York, from the forests of Uganda to Jerusalem, Gaza, Alexandria and Paris, and to a final showdown with the truth in Aoife's native Ireland. MY REVIEW I have enjoyed plenty of spy thrillers and mysteries in my time, but none quite like THIS EDEN by Ed O'Loughlin which is a mixture of espionage, technical genius, and unusual characters which all work well together to create a unique story. Michael fell into his relationship and they rubbed together nicely until work and life started to come between them. But when she dies suddenly, Michael's life is suddenly turned upside down. His girlfriend was one of the top coders in the country and now Michael finds himself hired by the top tech company in Silicon Valley even though he certainly doesn't belong. When he is approached by a spy called Aoife and her boss Towse, Michael soon finds himself out of his depth and in a race against time as he travels the world to uncover the truth, which may be far beyond his wildest imagination. THIS EDEN by Ed O'Loughlin weaves technology, power, lies, and secrecy all together to create a plot that is truly fresh and compelling. I did find the storytelling a little unusual at the beginning but soon fell into its flow and couldn't put it down until I unravelled what had happened. If you're looking for a distinctive story with a technological edge then THIS EDEN by Ed O'Loughlin will be right up your street. I look forward to reading more from this author. ABOUT THIS BOOK When your heart belongs in two places, can you ever truly find home? Brooklyn, New York. Bea has grown up in the heart of the Irish community, always hearing stories of home. When she discovers a letter from her younger self, written years before, it sends her deep into her own family history. Kilmore Quay, Ireland. Years earlier, Lucy Mernagh leaves her much-loved home and family in search of the New York dream. The Big Apple is a world away from the quiet village she grew up in, and the longing for home aches within her. When Bea uncovers a shocking secret, it takes her back across the water to Kilmore Quay, where – finally – long-buried truths will come to light. But fate has one last twist in store… MY REVIEW This is it. This is the book that made me feel every single emotion possible in the best possible way. This is the book that brought characters alive in a way that I have never experienced before. This is the book that made me laugh, worry, feel nostalgic, and cry (boy, did I cry) with Bea and Lucy as if they were my family. This is the book that made the beauty of Ireland and Irishness shine brightly like the gift that it is. This is THE MOON OVER KILMORE QUAY by Carmel Harrington. Bea is born and bred in New York, raised by her loving Irish father and grandparents after the sudden and tragic death of her mother. Theirs was a true love story and Bea longs to one day visit her mother's childhood home in Kilmore Quay in Ireland. But with a broken heart, she cannot shake the restless feeling that has taken her over lately, and when she receives a time capsule letter from her younger self, it may just be the push she needs to dig into her and her family's past. But what will she do when she discovers secrets that could change her view on everything? Told from Bea and Lucy's perspectives, ranging from the 1990s to now, this story will capture your heart and your imagination from the very first sentence. Bea and Lucy are both brave, strong characters who love their family and their loved ones deeply. The Irish-American community in New York came alive on the page and the emotional reality of what that experience is like, especially for the older generation like Bea's grandparents, is expertly portrayed by the author. Carmel Harrington has truly created characters and a story that is like no other I have read, and I'm warning you now to have the tissues at the ready because you're going to need them! THE MOON OVER KILMORE QUAY by Carmel Harrington is the best book that I have read and belongs on every bookshelf in Ireland, America, and beyond. ABOUT THIS BOOK When Thorstein Bergson rescues a beautiful woman from a storm-tossed longship he little expects to broker a powerful marriage alliance with her. This high-status ice queen is not the comfortable wife this warrior chief is seeking, but maybe the bittersweet pain in Gyda’s eyes hides another woman beneath? The one he tasted that first night, when she kissed him with such pent-up longing… MY REVIEW Reading THE VIKING CHIEF'S MARRIAGE ALLIANCE by Lucy Morris reminded me why I love historical romance so much! Gyda sacrificed herself for her family and married a man who was older than her father and didn't show her kindness. Now she is a widow but knows that she must cross the sea to find freedom and find a new life for herself before another man takes control of her again. When Thorstein Bergson rescues her from the sea and vows to see her to her destination, she recognises that he is kind and strong but there is sadness lurking behind his eyes, just as secrets are hiding behind hers. Thorstein is a warrior who understands hardship and wants to settle down and have children of his own. But after his first wife used him and then discarded him, he vows to never fall in love. While Gyda may be beautiful, he cannot help but judge her for the cold-hearted queen she appears to be, but the more time they spend together, he must admit to himself that maybe he judged her harshly. But can he ever let his guard down and let Gyda into his heart? And can Gyda put the past behind her to find happiness in the future? The setting and the community come alive in this story and I could picture it all as I turned each page. The characters are excellent and I completely fell in love with Gyda and Thorstein and desperately wanted them to open up to each other. With twists and turns, danger, and sizzling chemistry, THE VIKING CHIEF'S MARRIAGE ALLIANCE by Lucy Morris is everything you wish for in a historical romance, and then some more! AUTHOR BIO Lucy Morris lives in Essex, UK, with her husband, two young children and two cats. She has a massively sweet tooth and loves gin, bubbly and Irn-Bru. She’s a member of the UK Romantic Novelists' Association and is delighted to begin her publishing journey with Harlequin Historical in 2021 with her first release 'The Viking Chief's Marriage Alliance'. She adores writing strong, passionate women and the brave, honourable men who fall in love with them. Weaving her fascination with the dark age of medieval Europe with her compulsion to give her characters a happily ever after. But only after they've had an adventure along the way.
