ABOUT THIS BOOK

After a frosty welcome, things soon heat up at Wynter House.

Neva Grey is looking forward to spending a quiet Christmas with her family in the cosy cottage they’ve rented in the picture-postcard village of Wyntersleap. Nestled between rolling hills and a gently burbling river, it’s going to be idyllic.

Except it’s not. Torrential rain causes the river to burst its banks and the quaint little village isn’t quite so cosy with water lapping at the doors. Add to that a power cut and a sudden blizzard and Christmas is looking bleak ... until gorgeous Adam Wynter invites them all to Wynter House.

Although not everyone is happy to share the ancestral home. Adam’s elder brother, Rafe is less than pleased. Their grandmother, Olivia extends a grudging welcome. And for Carruthers, the oddly arrogant butler, unexpected guests are a Christmas surprise he could do without. Especially one as troublesome as Neva’s eight-year-old niece.

But something’s not quite right at Wynter House. What is Rafe intent on hiding behind the locked doors of the old barn? And what really happened to his first wife? It’s a good thing Neva has a sense of humour. She’s going to need it this Christmas at Wynter House.

MY REVIEW

If ever there was a book that would get you into the festive mood, then Christmas at Wynter House by Emily Harvale is that book.

Neva Grey is entering a new phase of her life. Her best friend is getting married and moving out which leads them both to sell their flat, and with nothing tying her to the city anymore, Neva is embarking on a new career with her mobile hair and beauty service. Neva has plenty of decisions to make but that can all take a back seat until after Christmas where she is meeting up with her family in a cosy cottage in the picture-perfect village of Wyntersleap. But it isn't long before the weather makes staying in the cottage a little more dangerous than anyone had planned and the inhabitants of the village find themselves moving up to the big house on the hill where there are plenty of rumours about the brooding man of the house, Rafe, although his younger brother seems like a lot of fun. Throw in an eight-year-old obsessed with zombies, a mischievous dog, a secret hiding in the barn, and who knows what magic could happen at Wynter House? Sometimes the most unexpected things happen at the perfect moment ...

Charming and appealing from beginning to end, I fell in love with Neva and her warm-hearted family and couldn't wait to find out what was in store for them. The setting is beautiful even when the weather ruins their plans and I could easily imagine the waterfall and the cottages with perfect clarity because the author is excellent at painting a picture. Rafe seemed so guarded and defensive so it was lovely to watch him open up slowly, and this community of quirky characters certainly kept me on my toes and made me laugh along the way.

CHRISTMAS AT WYNTER HOUSE by Emily Harvale is a wonderful story that places love and family at the centre of the magic and I look forward to reading more from this author.

ABOUT THIS BOOK

Rich and famous? How the other half live doesn’t even come close!

Always looking over her shoulder, anxiety levels soaring, Frankie welcomes her return to the family madhouse, with its familiar ribbing and insults. The chance to take her mind off what still feels so raw, so recent in her screwed-up life. Filling her time with lots of things to do but no thinking time – that had to be good. But then there’s the gentle reminder of those dreaded emails, the feeling of being watched.

Never far away, pain is always lurking beneath the surface. A random shooting? Unlikely . . . And it’s only a matter of time before she’ll have to face it, grieve for her losses and deal with the constant fear that follows her. But is she ready to go there? Can she really be responsible for his death? Something prickles her memory, her fears very real . . . Then the penny drops. A shared past.

Her stomach jumping like a grasshopper on speed and used to faking it, her past fears come back to haunt her, having witnessed something no child ever should. Their relationship fiery and strained, can she learn to trust Dev? Always relied on to be the one who centres her, he throws her off-centre completely. A complication she really doesn’t need, will the cold light of day become her great leveller? Or will she succumb?

As for Dev, photographer at large – pals? Who is he kidding! His affection for Frankie goes much further . . . her voice an arrow to the groin. But will she ever think of him as anything but a “brother”? Or is he doomed to remain just a shoulder to cry on?

MY REVIEW

Compelling, steamy, and with plenty of danger thrown in for good measure, Pamela G. Hobbs is the Irish Nora Roberts and I cannot wait for more from this exciting new series.

Frankie has never lived an ordinary life with an unstable celebrity mother and an unknown father, the only real family she has are the Fitzgeralds in Ireland - her godmother and their family who have treated Frankie like one of their own ever since she came to live with them as a child. But Frankie is all grown up and a successful actress to boot so travelling home is a rarity. But when a stalker takes things to another level, Frankie needs the comfort of those who truly know and love her, especially Dev, with whom she has always had a great connection with. As she settles into the wild Irish countryside, Frankie begins to feel herself relax amongst her loud and chatty family but there is something about Dev and her that feels different. There is a frisson of awareness that she shouldn't be feeling and the more time they spend together, the harder it is to ignore, even if they do drive each mad half the time. But just as Frankie starts to figure out what she wants from her future, the danger from her past surfaces again and this time they are determined to end Frankie for good.

I completely fell in love with the Fitzgerald family and Frankie and this book certainly left me eagerly awaiting the next book in the series!! Frankie is a strong woman who has struggled with plenty of her own issues throughout her life but watching her face the danger head-on and her developing feelings for Dev, was so compelling and emotional. The setting in Clifden took my breath away and as it is my favourite place in the world that is not an easy thing to do.

FAMILY AFFAIRS has got everything you could want - tension, friendship, romance, family love, danger, suspense, and everything in between - and I devoured this story in a couple of hours because I simply had to know what would happen. FAMILY AFFAIRS by Pamela G. Hobbs is the best book I have read this year in this genre and I highly recommend it to all fans of romantic suspense.

ABOUT THIS BOOK

Do you need to find out where you've come from before you can know what the future holds?

Ruby's singing career is on the verge of hitting the big time, when her voice breaks. Fearing her career is over, she signs up for a retreat in Tenerife to recover.

But an unexpected call from a stranger on a remote Scottish island takes her on a short trip to sort out some family business. It's time to go and see the grandfather she's never met.

City girl Ruby knows she will be happy to leave the windswept beaches behind as quickly as she can, especially as a years-old family rift means she knows she won't be welcome at Teach Mhor.

But as she arrives at the big house overlooking the bay, she finds things are not as straightforward as she might have thought.

There's an unexpected guest in the house and he's not planning on going anywhere any time soon ...

MY REVIEW

With her signature style, Jo Thomas swept me away to a Scottish island and held me captive to the very end of this compelling story.

Ruby's career is on the verge of hitting the big time when she starts to suffer from voice problems. A relaxing break in the sunshine is just what the doctor ordered. But first, there is a quick matter of signing some papers in Scotland to do with a grandfather that she has never met. Only the quick trip soon turns into something much more complicated with a sitting tenant, a missing gin recipe, and an undiscovered past that will see Ruby really dig deep into her family history and her own emotions. It doesn't look like she will be leaving any time soon ...

Emotional, descriptive, and completely addictive, Jo Thomas writes characters and places in such a way that makes them feel completely real. You feel like you are there and that these characters are your friends, such is her talent.
There are plenty of twists and turns, ups and downs, which took me by surprise and I enjoyed following Ruby on this path to learn about her family and herself.

COMING HOME TO WINTER ISLAND by Jo Thomas is another superb book from this master storyteller and I look forward to the next book as always. Definitely a must-read this Winter.

ABOUT THIS BOOK

A December to remember…

Christmas in a Cornish castle? Sign Ivy Starforth up! Hired to kit out the holiday rental as the world’s most Instagramable festive dreamland, there’s only one thing standing in the way of her hefty paycheque – the lord of the manor.

Bill Markham could give Scrooge a run for his money but Ivy is firmly #TeamChristmas…even if her handsome host seems to be doing everything he can to sabotage her staging. Maybe she shouldn’t have stumbled in on him starkers in the hot tub?

As the temperature outside cools, things inside the castle heat up. It’s been a long time since Ivy allowed herself to give in to temptation…surely one little kiss under the mistletoe won’t hurt?

MY REVIEW

Warm, engaging, and everything you could want from a winter novel, A COSY CHRISTMAS IN CORNWALL by Jane Linfoot is a wonderful read.

Last Christmas was a disaster for Ivy but she has high hopes that this year it will be better. For starters, she is spending it in a beautiful castle so that's already a big improvement. Helping create the perfect festive atmosphere for her best friend's highly instagrammable sister, Ivy has arrived before the masses to set the tone and make everything perfect. The setting is stunning but she didn't expect the owner to be a very sexy blast from the past, who is a bit of a scrooge to boot and as the castle is overrun by family, friends, kids, and frenemies, the temperature starts to rise. But can Ivy overcome her insecurities and allow a little Christmas magic into her heart?

The setting is stunning, the characters (and there are quite a few) are all unique and wonderful in setting the scene and making this story really come to life. I cared about Ivy and wanted her to open up and find happiness after what had happened.

A COSY CHRISTMAS IN CORNWALL by Jane Linfoot is the kind of read that warms the soul and I enjoyed every moment of it. A must-read this Christmas!!!

ABOUT THIS BOOK

It’s never too late to say I love you…

From the moment they meet one December day there’s something between Charlotte Taylor and her brother’s best friend, Tom Farley. But Tom’s already taken and Charlie has to let him go…

It’s another five years before their paths cross again only a secret from the past forces Charlie to make a choice. She promises herself she’ll never look back…

The years pass and Charlie moves on with her life but she can never forget Tom. He’s always there whispering ‘What if?’.

Can Charlie leave the life she has built for one last chance with Tom?  Or is the one that got away not really the one at all…?

MY REVIEW

Wow! Does Emma Heatherington know how to pull on your heartstrings or what?!?! Pull up a chair, have a cup of tea to hand (and some tissues), and settle down to read REWRITE THE STARS which is one of the best books I have read this year.

Charlotte always had feelings for Tom, ever since they were young, but sometimes young love isn't built to last. Kept apart by Charlotte's brother and other people in the picture, they lose their chance to be together. Or have they?
Fast forward a few years and yet again they come into each other lives but love is never straightforward and they move away from each other once more.
Charlotte's life isn't how she had always imagined it would be but she finds love and someone who is caring and kind. But the spectre of Tom is always there in the back of her mind - the one that got away. But can Charlotte walk away from the life that she has built?

It's the characters that make this story so engaging and relatable. I connected with them immediately and felt like they were friends as they experienced the highest of highs and lowest of lows. Emma Heatherington is an expert at writing emotions and REWRITE THE STARS is no different, packing an emotional punch from beginning to end, showing the importance of love, friendship, individuality, and strength throughout.

REWRITE THE STARS by Emma Heatherington is my favourite from this author so far and I cannot wait for more from one of Ireland's most talented authors.

ABOUT THIS BOOK

Viola Smith, plays the viola in an orchestra (yes really!), she’s bright, bubbly and enthusiastic about absolutely everything. And it’s enough to drive some people crazy…especially if they’re a grumpy widower with an eight-year-old in tow.

Nathan Williams hates Christmas, despite his small daughter’s efforts to stop him being the Grinch. But when he’s caught up in the community nativity play and meets Viola, her enthusiasm is infectious. As the snow starts to fall on Notting Hill and the bells ring out across London, Nathan might have to admit that Christmas isn’t so bad after all.

AUTHOR BIO

Jules Wake's earliest known declaration that she planned to be a writer came at the age of ten. Along the way she was diverted by the glamorous world of PR.

Eventually the voices in her head persuaded her it was time to sit down and write the novel she'd always talked about. Her debut novel, Talk to Me, in 2014, was quickly followed by the bestselling From Italy With Love, which reached the top ten in the Amazon Kindle charts. Since then she has had eight further novels published.

Jules' book Covent Garden in the Snow was a Kindle Top 2 bestseller. She also writes cosy romantic fiction as Julie Caplin and her next book, The Northern Lights Lodge, will be published by HarperImpulse in early 2019.

MY REVIEW

First of all, I have to comment on that cover - such a beauty! And the cover matches the warm and enjoyable story that is waiting for you inside CHRISTMAS SECRETS AT VILLA LIMONCELLO by Daisy James.

The season is upon them all at Villa Limoncello in the beautiful surroundings of Italy and a new batch of guests have arrived. Izzie and Luca are ready to teach and tantalise everyone's taste buds but when secrets begin to cause some trouble, they will have to figure out what is happening. But Izzie also has some thinking to do when she gets offered an opportunity of a lifetime back home in Cornwall and when someone from her past shows up unexpectedly. Will the shores of home keep her from Italy and a chance at love?

This book is part of a series so I recommend that you read the others in order to get the most out of this wonderful book. The setting of Tuscany and the Villa Limoncello came alive on every page and I could almost taste and smell the delicious food as I turned each page. The characters are warm and inviting, and I enjoyed getting to know them and seeing their passion for what they love.

CHRISTMAS SECRETS AT VILLA LIMONCELLO by Daisy James is a lovely story that is sure to make you smile and I look forward to reading more from this author.

ABOUT THIS BOOK

Freya Abalone has a big, messy, wonderful family, a fantastic career, and a new house.

But that's on the outside.

On the inside, she's got Mildred - the name she's given to that nagging inner critic who tells us all we're not good enough.

And now Freya's beloved blended family is under threat. Dan's first wife Elisa, the glamorous, manipulative woman who happily abandoned her daughter to Freya and Dan's care and left the country, has elbowed her way back into their lives.

But Freya knows that when life gives you lemons, you throw them right back.

Can Freya put her family - and herself - back together?

MY REVIEW

Warm, inviting, and relatable in every way, THE FAMILY GIFT by Cathy Kelly is her best book yet!

Freya Abalone is married to the man of her dreams, adores her three children, and enjoys her career as a TV chef. They have just purchased the home of their dreams and their lives are happy. But beneath the surface, Freya is struggling to keep everything together. One of the main reasons she chose their beautiful new home was because it had high walls to help her feel safe - something she has been struggling with ever since she was mugged. Freya loves all of her children but when the biological mother of her eldest daughter bursts back into their lives, Freya doesn't know how she will cope with her feelings of anger and resentment towards this woman. Lexi is her daughter in every possible way and Freya will not let anyone hurt her. And while she is very much in love with her husband Dan, Freya doesn't want him to know that she is falling apart at the seams and soon begins to lie to him about how she is feeling. Add in worries over her parents, a social media world which insists on faking it at every turn, and an inner voice called Mildred that loves to point out every mistake you have ever made, and it's no wonder that Freya is feeling the pressure. But can she open up and be vulnerable with those who love her most?

The perfect story for the modern age that we are living in where women are expected to do it all and be constantly on form, THE FAMILY GIFT by Cathy Kelly is a really honest and open story about real life. Nobody can be happy all of the time and everyone feels like they are dropping balls all over the place but silence is your enemy and this is portrayed wonderfully throughout this book.
The characters are engaging and I instantly fell in love with Freya and her family, and desperately wanted her to feel okay about not being okay. There is drama and laughter, mishaps and mayhem, and a group of characters that will really warm your heart from start to finish, and when I sat down with THE FAMILY GIFT, I knew I wouldn't budge until I had finished it because it is simply that good.

THE FAMILY GIFT is my favourite book from Cathy Kelly so far and is sure to be the huge success it deserves to be.

AUTHOR BIO

Born in Belfast but raised in Dublin, Cathy initially worked for thirteen years as a newspaper journalist with a national Irish Sunday newspaper, where she worked in news, features, along with spending time as an agony aunt and the paper’s film critic. However, her overwhelming love was always fiction and she published her first international bestseller, Woman To Woman, in 1997. She did not become a full-time writer until she had written another two books (She’s The One and Never Too Late) and finally decided to leave the world of journalism in 2001, moving to HarperCollins Publishers at the same time.

Someone Like You and What She Wants followed in successive years. Her sixth novel, Just Between Us, was her first Sunday Times number one bestseller, while her eighth novel, Always and Forever, topped the UK bestseller lists in October 2005, displacing Dan Brown and J. K. Rowling. In 2007, Past Secrets in was also a number one paperback bestseller.

Lessons in Heartbreak was shortlisted for the Eason Irish Popular Fiction Book of the Year at the Irish Book Awards in April 2009. In September 2009, Once in a Lifetime topped the UK bestseller lists for three weeks. In March 2011, Homecoming achieved the same feat. Her latest novel is It Started With Paris, published by Orion in 2014.

In Autumn 2011, Cathy headlined a search for a new writer on ITV’s The Alan Titchmarsh Show.

Cathy’s trademark is warm story-telling and she consistently tops the bestseller lists around the world with books which deal with themes ranging from relationships and marriage to depression and loss, but always with an uplifting message and strong female characters at the heart.

Cathy also has a passionate interest in children’s rights and is an ambassador for UNICEF Ireland. Her role for UNICEF is a Global Parent, which means raising funds and awareness for children orphaned by or living with HIV/AIDs.

She lives with her husband, John, their twin sons, Dylan and Murray, and their three dogs in Enniskerry, Co Wicklow.
