ABOUT THIS BOOK No matter how far you go, home is where the heart is... Beth Williams hasn’t been home for ten years. After falling pregnant at sixteen, she ran away from the imposing Scottish estate where she grew up rather than risk her family’s disapproval, working hard to build a life for herself and daughter Isabelle - but now she’s finally returning to Glendale Hall. As Beth tries to mend her broken family ties, and fights to bring the community of Glendale back together, she realises that the story she has told herself for a decade might well be a very different one from the truth. Even though she ran from Glendale it has never left her heart. And, she soon realises, neither has Drew – Beth’s first love. Will Beth be able to forgive her mother and grandmother (and herself) for what happened ten years ago? What will Drew say when he discovers the secret she’s been keeping from him for so long? Can a festive trail bring the village back together? Will Christmas work its magic on Glendale - or will Beth be forced to run away from it all over again? MY REVIEW As inviting and captivating as its cover, COMING HOME TO GLENDALE HALL by Victoria Walters is a wonderful story of second chances and new possibilities and I didn't want this story to end. Beth left her beautiful home, Glendale Hall, and all those who knew her best behind ten years ago to build a life for herself and her beloved daughter. She could never forget what happened in the past but when her grandmother becomes very ill, Beth is summoned home before it is too late, but she is unsure just how she will feel being back in the home and town that had meant so much to her once. But things have changed in so many ways and as Beth begins to reconnect with old friends and her family, she soon realises that her heart has always belonged here in some shape or form. But with secrets still lurking, will the magic of the season pave the way for a new and exciting future for Beth and her daughter? Or is it always a bad idea to live in the past? Enchanting characters in a wondrous setting, COMING HOME TO GLENDALE HALL by Victoria Walters is everything you could possibly want in a heartwarming festive read and I loved every second of it. Watching Beth as she tried to re-establish old relationships and understanding what had happened to her in the past, made it very easy to connect with her and I really hoped that she would find happiness at the end. The setting is breathtakingly described and I would pack my bags and be there in the morning if I could. With plenty of family drama, community spirit, old friendships, and love along the way, COMING HOME TO GLENDALE HALL is a superb read and I cannot wait to read more from Victoria Walters. AUTHOR BIO Victoria Walters has always loved creating stories. Her first book was handwritten when she was sixteen years old, and was closely modelled on the Sweet Valley High series. Victoria works as a Waterstones bookseller, mostly to get a discount on books. She lives in Surrey with her cat Harry (named after Harry Potter, not Harry Styles). Her debut novel THE SECOND LOVE OF MY LIFE was published in 2016 and was chosen for WHSmith Fresh Talent and shortlisted for an RNA award. Victoria was also picked as an Amazon Rising Star. Victoria's latest novel RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS is being published as a four-part eBook serial. Can their unique love endure what is revealed now that there is MORE FOR HER? MY REVIEW Well, lads, what can I say other than is it starting to feel a little hot in here?!?!? I have read plenty of erotic romance in my time - some brilliant, some average, and a lot that would make you cringe - but Penny Best brings something new to the scene with this fantastic new erotic series set in the not-so-distant past (1930s Ireland to be precise). Now for those of you who are avid readers of this genre, you can buy this series safely in the knowledge that these books are hot. Steamy, sweat dripping off you, heart-pounding kind of hot, written in a such a way that will leave you flushed in the face and jumping out of your chair if someone enters the room kind of flustered. The sexual scenes are on fire but there is so much more to erotic romance than that. I have to feel connected to the characters and the setting. I have to feel compelled to find out more, especially when it is part of a series and I am happy to say that in all ways, the author is spot on. Ireland in the 1930s comes alive and I could picture each part of this story as the writer has a unique flare in painting a picture for her readers. Minnie has an overbearing mother and is living in a time when women were subdued in every way possible. With a dark past Minnie has become mute but when she collides with Edward Tandy, her life opens up again in ways beyond her imagination. The handsome Tandy twins, Edward and Ernest, have a reputation in this town and young women are warned off them by their parents but they both appeal to Minnie in very different ways and when it becomes apparent that they both want her, will Minnie let go of her inhibitions and take what she wants? This series follows the development of Minnie as she taps into her confidence and strength and refuses to be a pawn in anyone's games. Watching her self-belief come to the fore and learning about her past makes Minnie an engaging and loveable character and I was hooked from the beginning and couldn't wait to see how life would turn out for Minnie and her men. Edward and Ernest are interesting characters, opposite sides of the same coin, who are very different but appeal to Minnie in equal measures, and help break down Minnie's walls in contrasting ways. THE WILD IRISH LUST SERIES by Penny Best has got it all - drama, sensuality, mystery, misunderstandings, and spirit - and is a must-read for fans of erotic romance everywhere. AUTHOR BIO Penny Best is the pen-name and persona for an explicit romance writer who has thrown caution to the wind. This fictional persona writes hot steamy quickie reads and has a degree in tantric sex therapy. Having spent her early twenties working in high-end gentleman’s clubs in London, Penny has now found her own inner goddess and runs naturalist yoga retreats for celebrities in exotic locations across the globe. As a competent sailor, Penny takes time out of her hectic writing and business schedule to battle the wilds of the Atlantic around her coastal based refurbished castle in the north-west of Ireland. Penny is at her happiest when walking her trusty sheep dog. She also succumbs to the local gin, the odd hot whiskey and has fallen passionately in lust with her own rugged, Irish scuba diver. Penny’s dream is to meet Oprah Winfrey, Pierce Brosnan and Nora Roberts and to write for the rest of her days. ABOUT THIS BOOK Spain, 1938: The country is wracked by civil war, and as Valencia falls to Franco's brutal dictatorship, Republican Therese witnesses the murders of her family. Captured and sent to the notorious Las Ventas women's prison, Therese gives birth to a daughter who is forcibly taken from her. Falkenberg, Sweden, 2016: A wealthy family is found savagely murdered in their luxurious home. Discovering that her parents have been slaughtered, Aliénor Lindbergh, a new recruit to the UK's Scotland Yard, rushes back to Sweden and finds her hometown rocked by the massacre. Profiler Emily Roy joins forces with Aliénor and soon finds herself on the trail of a monstrous and prolific killer. Little does she realize that this killer is about to change the life of her colleague, true-crime writer Alexis Castells. Joining forces once again, Roy and Castells' investigation takes them from the Swedish fertility clinics of the present day back to the terror of Franco's rule, and the horrifying events that took place in Spanish orphanages under its rule. MY REVIEW BLOOD SONG by Johana Gustawsson is an uncomfortable, terrifying, and absolutely heartbreaking story that will haunt you long after you turn the final page. Blending past and present, the author opens up Spanish history under the brutal dictatorship of Franco, of which I must admit I knew very little, and the devastating reality of the horrific treatment of everyone but especially women and children then, in turn, links to a modern-day chilling crime where a wealthy family are found slaughtered in their home in Sweden. Profiler Emily Roy and her friend Alexis Castells are eager to capture the killer as always but this triple murder feels much closer to home as it centres around Emily's protégé, Aliénor - the victims were her family. It appears to be a very personal attack but there is also something off about this wealthy family's reproductive clinic which seems to achieve phenomenal success rates. Could their massacre be business-related? And as two similar crimes become known to Emily and Alexis, a heartbreaking and harrowing story from the past may just hold the key to unlocking the truth. This book broke me. I cried, I felt physically ill, and I felt anger at the absolute horror that the victims under Franco's reign experienced. Yes, this book is fiction but elements are based on the real events of the past which made it all the more devastating. Taking this traumatic history, Johana Gustawsson weaves an unbelievable web of murder and destruction with a gripping group of characters that will hold your attention at all times and keep you hooked to the very end. BLOOD SONG by Johana Gustawsson is the third book in this excellent series (Block 46 and Keeper being the first two) and I highly recommend you buy them all because this author's writing is beyond talented - also a huge thank you to David Warriner who translates these compelling words into English. Johana Gustawsson's writing has the power to actually change you, to open your eyes to history, and to make you physically react, and BLOOD SONG is another excellent example of this. An excellent and disturbing novel that is beyond measurement - a must-read for all crime fiction readers. AUTHOR BIO Born in 1978 in Marseille, France, and a graduate of Political Sciences, Johana Gustawsson was a journalist for television and French press. She now lives in London, England. ABOUT THIS BOOK Hearts are lighter and wishes burn a little brighter at Christmas… Elizabeth Hamilton has been lost. Trapped in a tangle of postpartum depression and grief after the death of her beloved parents, she couldn’t quite see the way back to her husband and their two beautiful kids…until a car accident stole away her memories and changed her life. And when she finally remembered the sound of little Cassie’s laugh, the baby powder smell of Bridger and the feel of her husband’s hand in hers, Elizabeth worried that they’d moved on without her. That she’d missed too much. That perhaps she wasn’t the right mother for her kids or wife for Luke, no matter how much she loved them. But now, seven years later, Luke finds her in a nearby town and brings Elizabeth back home to the family she loves, just in time for Christmas. And being reunited with Luke and her children is better than anything Elizabeth could have imagined. As they all trim the tree and bake cookies, making new holiday memories, Elizabeth and Luke are drawn ever closer. Can the hurt of the past seven years be healed over the course of one Christmas season and bring the Hamiltons the gift of a new beginning? MY REVIEW Well, this book certainly packs an emotional punch so I'm warning you now when you sit down with COMING HOME FOR CHRISTMAS by RaeAnne Thayne make sure you have the tissues close to hand. For seven years Luke has raised his children alone wondering what really happened to his wife, whether she was gone forever, while some people suspected him of foul play. But thanks to a friend, Luke has found Elizabeth living a brand new life without them but he is taking her home so they can all move on. How could the woman he adored do this to them? Seven years ago, caught in a tortured web of depression and grief, Elizabeth didn't know who she was or what was happening in her life. And when she remembered, she knew that she would destroy those she loved the most if she went back, so she left them behind. But always made sure to check in on them even when they didn't know it. But now she can no longer hide away and when she returns home, Elizabeth and everyone around her will have to deal with the past and grieve for everything they have lost. But is it too late to move on together? COMING HOME FOR CHRISTMAS by RaeAnne Thayne confronts many sensitive topics is a such a gentle and kind way so hats off to the author for that. Elizabeth was so lost and I felt so sorry for everything that she went through as I got to know her more throughout the story. But my heart also broke for Luke, the man who loved her so much, whom she walked away from and I completely understood his anger, and I admired his sense of compassion in listening when she needed him to. The kids are amazing in this book and are really the stars of the show. Compelling, emotional, and sure to touch your heart, COMING HOME FOR CHRISTMAS by RaeAnne Thayne is a must-read this Christmas and another great addition to this series. AUTHOR BIO I'm not one of those people who knew from birth she was destined to become a writer. I always loved to read and throughout my childhood I could usually be found with a book in my hands. To the disgust of my friends, I even enjoyed creative writing assignments that made them all groan. But I had other dreams besides writing. I wanted to be an actress or a teacher or a lawyer. Life took a different turn for me, though, when my mother made me take a journalism elective in high school (thanks, Mom!). I knew the first day that this was where I belonged. After I graduated from college in journalism, I took a job at the local daily newspaper and I reveled in the challenge and the diversity of it. One day I could be interviewing the latest country music star, the next day I was writing about local motorcycle gangs or interviewing an award-winning scientist. Through it all -- through the natural progression of my career from reporter to editor -- I wrote stories in my head. Not just any stories, either, but romances, the kind of books I have devoured since junior high school, with tales about real people going through the trials and tribulations of life until they find deep and lasting love. I had no idea how to put these people on paper, but knew I had to try -- their stories were too compelling for me to ignore. I sold my first book in 1995 and now, more than 30 books later, I've come to love everything about writing, from the click of the computer keys under my fingers to the "that's-it!" feeling I get when a story is flowing. I write full-time now (well, as full-time as I can manage juggling my kids!) amid the raw beauty of the northern Utah mountains. Even though I might not have dreamed of being a writer when I was younger, now I simply can't imagine my life any other way. ABOUT THIS BOOK When Jenny inherits her estranged grandmother’s cottage in Sherwood Forest, she has nothing to lose - no money, no job, no friends, no family to speak of, and zero self-respect. Things can only get better... Her grumpy, but decidedly handsome new neighbour, Mack, has a habit of bestowing unsolicited good deeds on her. And when Jenny is welcomed into a rather unusual book club, life seems to finally be getting more interesting. Instead of reading, the members pledge to complete individual challenges before Christmas: from finding new love, learning to bake, to completing a daredevil bucket list. Jenny can’t resist joining in, and soon a year of friendship and laughter, tears and regrets unfolds in the most unexpected ways. MY REVIEW Now one of my favourite books EVER, CHRISTMAS EVERY DAY by Beth Moran is the perfect blend of wit, romance, and that little something called magic which combines to make this story engaging in every possible way. Jenny has an estranged relationship with her mother who checked out years ago, and a volatile relationship with her twin sister who hates everything about her. But she has her secret romance which is about to become public when he proposes at their work party. Only he doesn't propose to her. He proposes to her twin. And so that is how Jenny finds herself jobless on the doorstep of a dilapidated cottage in Sherwood Forest that used to belong to her grandmother whom she knew nothing about. You would think things couldn't get worse but try sleeping in a car in a shed with rats for company! But Jenny knows that she needs to take some time to simply figure out who she is and what she really wants from life, and as she painstakingly begins to renovate the cottage, meet the locals, and make real friends for the first time in her life, things may just be starting to look up. If only she could stop putting her foot in it with her handsome and helpful next-door neighbour. But this quaint little village has its own snakes who want to see Jenny leave, and when a wife arrives next door and a wedding invitation brings her heartbreak roaring back into the present, will it ruin everything that Jenny has worked hard to build? Engaging and witty from the very beginning, there was a real freshness to this story which made it stand out. Jenny is a wonderful character who is so relatable and loveable and I desperately wanted her to see her worth and find happiness. This small community with its host of quirky characters were excellent in every way and I was sad when I got to the end because I didn't want to say goodbye to them all. There is drama, high emotions, genuine friendship and more nestled among these pages but there is never a dull moment and CHRISTMAS EVERY DAY by Beth Moran is truly wonderful in every way. I cannot wait for more!!! AUTHOR BIO Beth Moran is the author of three previous books, including Making Marion. She regularly features on BBC Radio Nottingham and is a trustee of the national women's network Free Range Chicks. She lives on the outskirts of Sherwood Forest. ABOUT THIS BOOK Maddie is restless in London. She has friends, a job and a sort-of boyfriend, but something in her life is missing. Then she visits the ancient village of Walditch, deep in the Dorset countryside. Something stirs in her, and on a whim she buys a centuries-old cottage and moves there three months later. Her friends think she's crazy, but for Maddie it feels like coming home. Late at night in the cottage, Maddie hears strange noises and sees mist gathering indoors and out. When she starts investigating the cottage's history, she becomes drawn into the tragic story of a family who lived here 400 years ago. Meanwhile, Maddie starts to fall in love with a local carpenter – but he has a relationship already... Can Maddie solve the riddle of the past? What is her connection with the family that lived there so many years ago? And can she and her true love ever be together? Previously published as The Forgotten Promise. MY REVIEW I liked the idea of this book so when I picked it up to read I had high expectations and I'm delighted to say that SECRETS OF THE MIST by Kate Ryder went above and beyond everything I could have imagined. When Maddie is on location with work in a picture-perfect Dorset village she is overcome with a feeling of familiarity that throws her because she has never been here before. And when she spots an old cottage that is for sale, she knows that it is waiting for her and only her to buy it. So she does. Maddie quits her job and moves her high-paced city life for the quiet of the countryside and she feels like she is home. But there are moments in the house when she knows that she is not alone and when she starts to have vivid dreams and begins to see apparitions, Maddie knows that the past needs her to finish their story, but what is it? Throw in a handsome tradesman who feels like her soulmate but has a long-term girlfriend, a new job, and an old friend who may need her, and life is anything but dull for Maddie, but can she figure out the past so she can have a shot at real love in the present? I loved every part of this emotional and beautiful book which perfectly blended the heartache and love from the past with the uncertainty and risk of the present. The characters, the setting, the community all have a piece of my heart and I could not put this book down until I got to the end because it is simply that wonderful and addictive!! SECRETS OF THE MIST by Kate Ryder is a superb story about love against all odds and I cannot wait to read more from this amazing author. AUTHOR BIO Kate Ryder writes romantic suspense with a true-to-life narrative. Her passion is writing (a period during which she studied acting only confirmed her preference for writing rather than performing!). Since then she has worked in the publishing, tour operating and property industries, and has travelled widely. She is a member of the Romantic Novelists' Association and the Society of Authors. In 2017 Kate signed a 4-book publishing contract with Aria (digital imprint of award-winning independent publisher, Head of Zeus). ABOUT THIS BOOK Gripping drama as Pennington's department store prepares for a glittering Christmas in 1911, but a killer stalks the women of Bath. Christmas sees Pennington's at its most glorious, thronged with shoppers, its grand staircase and balcony adorned with holly, mistletoe, tinsel and lights. It should be the happiest time, but dramas are seething beneath the surface. For Cornelia Culford, in charge of jewellery, a divorce hearing looms, where she could lose custody of her young sons to her overbearing and unfaithful husband. For Stephen Gower, being head of security at Pennington's is the perfect refuge from a tragic past at Scotland Yard. But soon the past will call him back, as Joseph Carter and Elizabeth Pennington beg him to help solve the murder of Joseph's first wife, now that it seems as if the killer has struck again. For Joseph and Elizabeth, their marriage depends on exorcising the past. But can it ever be laid to rest? MY REVIEW Brimming with drama, style, and secrets, CHRISTMAS AT PENNINGTON'S by Rachel Brimble is a story that comes alive in your mind as you read each page and is sure to please historical fiction fans everywhere. It is 1911 and Pennington's department store is getting ready for Christmas with its stunning displays of elegance and sophistication. But outside these hallowed walls, a killer stalks the wealthy women of Bath and is making its presence felt. Cornelia is struggling to juggle her job at Pennington's with her children and the divorce that is looming over her head like a threatening cloud, but she will do whatever it takes for those she loves to be happy. Working as security at Pennington's gives Stephen something to focus on as his past is picked over at Scotland Yard but when he is asked to look into the murders, he cannot wait to discover the truth and prove to himself that he can do this. But as new relationships begin to blossom and old wounds try to heal, will those at Pennington's uncover the truth and find happiness in time for Christmas? Compelling with plenty of drama, secrets, and misunderstandings, CHRISTMAS AT PENNINGTON'S by Rachel Brimble is part historical fiction and part mystery which worked really well for me. The characters are fascinating and absorbing and while this book is part of a series it can easily be read as a standalone, but as I always say, why have one good book when you can have more? Pennington's department store is like a character itself and I enjoyed picturing this breathtaking place as the author describes it with such love and detail. There is something for everyone in CHRISTMAS AT PENNINGTON'S and I cannot wait to read more from Rachel Brimble, who has a way of making the past come alive in such a way which is truly inspiring. AUTHOR BIO Rachel lives with her husband, their two daughters in a small market town near the famous Georgian City of Bath. ABOUT THIS BOOK A dog’s life is just what Maddy needs. Maddy Young thought she had it all. Swanky city apartment? – yep. Fancy car? sorted. High-flying career? – tick. Even if she’s lost most of her friends because of spending all her time at work, and can’t remember when she last had fun, it’s worth it. Until she’s suddenly made redundant. Now she’s 37, jobless, and after the breakup with the former love of her life, unhappily single. Enter Maddy’s childhood friend, Beth, the owner of Growlers, the doggy daycare centre at Giddywell Grange, on a mission to make Maddy see there’s more to life than work. Soon, Maddy is swapping spreadsheets for volunteer duty at the library, daily Starbucks for cups of tea with elderly neighbours, and her Prada handbag for doggy poo bags… And with Beth’s gorgeous brother, Alex, back from the States, Maddy starts to think that Giddywell Grange might just be her happy place. But when her old life – and her old boyfriend - comes calling, will Maddy go back to the job she loved so much? Or will she discover that the key to happiness lies in making others happy? MY REVIEW An enjoyable read that gives you a warm, fuzzy feeling, ESCAPE TO GIDDYWELL GRANGE by Kim Nash is the perfect read to curl up with on the couch and relax. Maddy Young dedicated her entire life to her career so when she finds out she is being made redundant instead of getting a promotion, it throws her world upside down. What on earth is she going to do now? And it isn't long before Maddy realises that she has neglected her mother, her childhood home, and her friends as she has built her career, so reconnecting seems to be somewhere to start. As Maddy renews her relationship with her best friend Beth, she begins to see how kind and giving Beth really is as well as hardworking with her own doggy daycare business. Taking a leaf out of Beth's book, Maddy soon finds herself involved in her childhood community of Giddywell Grange and there may even be a whiff of romance in the air too. But when the past comes calling, will Maddy return to the familiar rather than the new life she is only just beginning to carve out for herself? And is it ever possible to move on from the heartache that has gone before? An engaging story with some loveable characters (and dogs!), ESCAPE TO GIDDYWELL GRANGE by Kim Nash makes you think about how quickly one's life can change and how we all may cope with the repercussions. Maddy is a little lost and while at times I did want to shake some sense into her, the more I got to know her, the more I wanted to protect her, and hoped that she would take some chances on her future. The setting is beautifully depicted as I now know is a signature style of this talented author, and there is truly never a dull moment in this moving story of fresh starts and new horizons. ESCAPE TO GIDDYWELL GRANGE by Kim Nash is a wonderful read, sure to please fiction fans everywhere, and I look forward to reading more from this author. AUTHOR BIO Kim Nash lives in Staffordshire with son Ollie and English Setter Roni, is PR & Social Media Manager for Bookouture and is a book blogger at www.kimthebookworm.co.uk. Kim won the Romantic Novelists Association's Media Star of the Year in 2016, which she still can't quite believe. She is now quite delighted to be a member of the RNA. When she's not working or writing, Kim can be found walking her dog, reading, standing on the sidelines of a football pitch cheering on Ollie and binge watching box sets on the TV. She's also quite partial to a spa day and a gin and tonic (not at the same time!) Kim also runs a book club in Cannock, Staffs.
