ABOUT THIS BOOK Roxy's marriage has always been rock solid. After twenty years, and with two carefree kids, she and Dave are still the perfect couple. Until the day she comes home unexpectedly, and finds Dave in bed with their attractive, single neighbour. Suddenly Roxy isn't sure about anything - her past, the business she's taken over from her dad, or what her family's future might be. She's spent so long caring about everyone else that she's forgotten what she actually wants. But something has changed. And Roxy has a decision to make. Whether it's with Dave, or without him, it's time for Roxy to start living for herself... MY REVIEW I'm a huge fan of Sheila O'Flanagan's books and when I picked up HER HUSBAND'S MISTAKE I was pretty confident that this would be another wonderful, multi-faceted story that would grip me to the end, and I'm happy to say I was right! Roxy has just lost her dad whom she was really close to when she arrives home early one morning to find her husband shagging the next door neighbour. Distraught, she grabs some things for her and her two lovely children and heads back to stay with her mum. Determined to keep herself busy while she figures out what to do next, Roxy continues to run her dad's business which he has left to her, as a chauffeur for private clients some of whom are even celebrities. As the business grows, Roxy starts to remember who she was before she was a wife and a mother, and enjoys driving and the professional service she provides. But she has always loved her husband and as he wages a war to win her back, Roxy is wavering over whether they can move past it. But Roxy isn't the same woman anymore. She is more independent, feisty, and determined than ever and maybe there is a different future waiting for her and her family ... I loved HER HUSBAND'S MISTAKE by Sheila O'Flanagan and I loved the main character, Roxy. In the beginning, I was shouting at her to chuck her husband out of the door and never look back but as I got to know her I could see why she has to figure out her situation slowly. This is the man whom she has always loved, a good father and she wants a happy home for her children. So it becomes easier to understand Roxy as she weighs up the pros and cons of her marriage even if it isn't what you would do yourself. Watching Roxy develop self-confidence as her business begins to take on a life of its own and her mutually supportive relationship with her mother were the best moments in this book for me, and as always when reading a Sheila O'Flanagan novel I found myself finishing it at 2am as I just couldn't go to bed without seeing how it would all fare out for everyone. The topics of cheating, grief, and family drama are all excellently handled and there is never a dull moment in HER HUSBAND'S MISTAKE from start to finish. And the old saying 'A blessing in disguise' really comes to mind while reading this wonderful story. So what are you waiting for? Buy it now and get lost in the exquisite words of one of Ireland's finest writers. Happy reading! AUTHOR BIO Sheila O'Flanagan is the author of many bestselling novels including The Hideaway, What Happened That Night, The Missing Wife, My Mother's Secret, If You Were Me, and All For You (winner of the Irish Independent Popular Fiction Book of the Year Award). ABOUT THIS BOOK Alabama, 1947. War's over, cherry-print dresses, parking above the city lights, swing dancing. Beautiful, seventeen-year-old Violet lives in a perfect world. Everybody loves her. In 2012, she's still beautiful, charming, and surrounded by admirers. Veronica "Ronni" Johnson, licensed practical nurse and aspiring writer, meets the captivating Violet in the assisted living facility where Violet requires no assistance, just lots of male attention. When she dies, she leaves Ronni a very generous bequest―only if Ronni completes a book about her life within one year. As she's drawn into the world of young Violet, Ronni is mesmerized by life in a simpler time. It's an irresistible journey filled with revelations, some of them about men Ronni knew as octogenarians at Fairfield Springs. Struggling, insecure, flailing at the keyboard, Ronni juggles her patients, a new boyfriend, and a Samsonite factory of emotional baggage as she tries to craft a manuscript before her deadline. But then the secrets start to emerge, some of them in person. And they don't stop. Everything changes. MY REVIEW With an engaging storyline and deftly-woven characters, IT ALL COMES BACK TO YOU by Beth Duke is the kind of book that will have you recommending it to your friends purely so you can have someone else to discuss it with. Ronni enjoys her job as a carer for the most part but deep down she would love to be a writer. When her favourite patient, Violet, passes away, she leaves Ronni with the means to follow her dreams in more than one way. Alongside some money, Violet has also shared her life with Ronni - the ups and downs, the tragedies and the love that she has experienced in Alabama after the war right up to the day she died. Violet always shone no matter where she was and she knows that Ronni can make her life a bestseller now that she is gone. But as Ronni begins to dig a little deeper into Violet's life there are secrets waiting to be unearthed and along the way Ronni's life will change too ... IT ALL COMES BACK TO YOU by Beth Duke is the kind of grand story that sweeps you along in its descriptions and makes the past feel like the present as you read it. The story jumps between the two timelines which worked really well and there was never a moment when I wanted to put this book down. I smiled, I cried, and my heart may have even broken a little at times, which is always the perfect sign to me that a book is special and IT ALL COMES BACK TO YOU by Beth Duke is definitely special. A must-read for fiction fans who love a dual timeline and excellent characters. AUTHOR BIO Beth Dial Duke is an Amazon #1 Best Selling author and the recipient of short story awards on two continents. She is eyeing the other five. Beth lives in the mountains of her native Alabama with her husband, one real dog, one ornamental dog, and a flock of fluffy pet chickens. She loves reading, writing, and not arithmetic. Baking is a hobby, with semi-pro cupcakes and amateur macarons a specialty. And puns—the worse, the better. Travel is her other favorite thing, along with joining book clubs for discussion. Please invite her to London...England or Kentucky, either is fine. Anywhere! ABOUT THIS BOOK Mary O’Connor, beautiful daughter of the local shoemaker, dreams of a life beyond the hardship and poverty of Brogue Lane but must resign herself to life as a lowly kitchen maid. William Pembroke Mulchinock, heir to West Villa, is obliged to let go of his dream of being a poet to run the family estate. When they meet they are dazzled by love. The Great Famine is about to grip the country, Daniel O’Connell is holding monster rallies, pushing for Repeal of the 1801 Union, and the young lovers are caught up in the politics of the time. Can their love survive political turmoil and bridge the great divide between rich and poor? MY REVIEW Poetic, beautiful, heartbreaking, and a story that will ensnare your soul, THE FIRST ROSE OF TRALEE by Patricia O'Reilly is simply stunning. Mary O'Connor knows how tough life can be as she works hard to provide some help to her family in the poverty of Brogue Lane where her father, a hard man at times, is a shoemaker. But working in West Villa as a maid will change Mary's life in so many ways, especially when her path crosses with William, the son of the house. Like Ireland's history at the time, tensions rise among these two characters who desperately fall in love and believe they can change the status quo, and help Ireland repeal the 1801 Union so that everyone may become more equal. William is determined to help his countrymen and with the beautiful Mary by his side, he knows he can conquer anything. But life is never that fair ... Everyone knows about the famous Rose of Tralee festival and it was practically a staple in our house growing up where we would all sit down to watch the gorgeous dresses and pick our winner. The song is known the world over but I never really listened to the words in any deep or meaningful way but that has changed since reading this book. My heart was completely invested in Mary and William as they battled their class differences and the political landscape which was brimming with tension, and sadly we all know the death and anguish that Ireland was going to face in the future with the Great Famine. But their strength and belief in themselves and each other really moved me and I honestly could not put this book down until I got to the end. Emotional, compelling, and all-consuming, THE FIRST ROSE OF TRALEE by Patricia O'Reilly took my breath away and this tragic love story is a must-read for all readers who love a little fact with their fiction. I will never look at the Rose of Tralee festival in the same way again as this story will always now linger in my mind. AUTHOR BIO Patricia O’Reilly was born in Dublin. She writes fiction and non-fiction, and teaches writing in UCD, the Irish Writers’ Centre, literary festivals and elsewhere. Her latest novel The First Rose of Tralee is the story of Mary O’Connor (182?-1845) the servant girl who stole the heart of the master of West Villa, and she is the inspiration for the annual Rose of Tralee International Festival Patricia is an expert on Irish designer Eileen Gray. The Interview, set in Paris in 1972, centres on Eileen Gray’s meeting with rising star of Fleet Street, Bruce Chatwin; and Time & Destiny is also about Eileen Gray; A Type of Beauty the story of Kathleen Newton, long-listed for Historical Novel Society Award, tells of her love affair with French artist James Tissot; Once Upon A Summer is based on a true story set during the summer of 1959 in County Kerry. ABOUT THIS BOOK No one else knows what happened that summer. Or so she believes . . . Grace first came to France a lifetime ago. Young and full of dreams of adventure, she met two very different men. She fell under the spell of one. The other fell under hers. Until one summer night shattered everything . . . Now, Grace is living an idyllic life with her husband, sheltered from the world in a magnificent Provençal villa, perched atop a windswept cliff. Every day she looks out over the sea - the only witness to that fateful night years ago. Until a stranger arrives at the house. A stranger who knows everything, and won't leave until he gets what he wants. MY REVIEW THE HOUSE ON THE EDGE OF THE CLIFF by Carol Drinkwater is a wonderfully detailed and compelling story about what can happen when the past and present collide. Grace was sixteen when she arrived in France during a tumultuous time in its history. There she met two men - one she loved in a gentle and unassuming way, and one she was deeply in thrall with even though their relationship was tempestuous. But on one fateful evening, Grace loses one of those men when he drowns. Years later, Grace and her husband Peter are content and happy in their beautiful home on the cliffside, and everything will be perfect as soon as Peter has his heart surgery and recovers. All that matters to Grace is that Peter has no stress and that she doesn't lose the most important person in her life. But someone from the past is determined to make himself heard and will manipulate Grace to get exactly what he wants ... As always with Carol Drinkwater's books, the history, food, sights, smells, and atmosphere of the location bursts to life on every page and France is a character in its own right in this story - and one of my favourites! The story moves from past to present, weaving its secrets and opening our eyes to the hidden depths beneath the surface of these characters' lives, and I loved the ebb and flow feeling of the drama throughout. THE HOUSE ON THE EDGE OF THE CLIFF by Carol Drinkwater is a superbly structured story with plenty of mystery to keep you guessing and I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish - an excellent book from an excellent author. AUTHOR BIO Anglo-Irish actress Carol Drinkwater is perhaps still most familiar to audiences for her award-winning portrayal of Helen Herriot in the BBC series All Creatures Great and Small. A popular and acclaimed author and film-maker as well, Carol has published nineteen books for both the adult and young adult markets. She is currently at work on her twentieth title. When she purchased a rundown property overlooking the Bay of Cannes in France, she discovered on the grounds sixty-eight, 400-year-old olive trees. Once the land was reclaimed and the olives pressed, Carol along with her French husband, Michel, became the producers of top-quality olive oil. Her series of memoirs, love stories, recounting her experiences on her farm (The Olive Farm, The Olive Season, The Olive Harvest and Return to the Olive Farm) have become international bestsellers. Carol's fascination with the olive tree extended to a seventeenth-month, solo Mediterranean journey in search of the tree's mythical secrets. The resulting travel books, The Olive Route and The Olive Tree, have inspired a five-part documentary films series entitled The Olive Route. Carol has also been invited to work with UNESCO to help fund an Olive Heritage Trail around the Mediterranean with the dual goals of creating peace in the region and honouring the ancient heritage of the olive tree. ABOUT THIS BOOK What secrets were covered up at the court of Henry VIII …? Whitehall Palace, England, 1539 When Catherine Howard arrives at the court of King Henry VIII to be a maid of honour in the household of the new queen, Anne of Cleves, she has no idea of the fate that awaits her. Catching the king’s fancy, she finds herself caught up in her uncle’s ambition to get a Howard heir to the throne. Terrified by the ageing king after the fate that befell her cousin, Anne Boleyn, Catherine begins to fear for her life… Pembrokeshire, Wales, 2018 Dr Perdita Rivers receives news of the death of her estranged grandmother, renowned Tudor historian Mary Fitzroy. Mary inexplicably cut all contact with Perdita and her twin sister, Piper, but she has left them Marquess House, her vast estate in Pembrokeshire. Perdita sets out to unravel their grandmother’s motives for abandoning them, and is drawn into the mystery of an ancient document in the archives of Marquess House, a collection of letters and diaries claiming the records of Catherine Howard’s execution were falsified… What truths are hiding in Marquess House? What really happened to Catherine Howard? And how was Perdita’s grandmother connected to it all? MY REVIEW Compelling, fresh, and with deftly-woven characters that ensnare the imagination, THE CATHERINE HOWARD CONSPIRACY by Alexandra Walsh is a wonderful blend of historical mystery and modern drama, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. When Perdita learns that her estranged, wealthy grandmother has passed away, she is surprised to be invited to her estate considering she ignored Perdita and her twin sister Piper since they were little. But the surprises keep on coming when she learns that their grandmother's vast estate, historical documents, books, and money are all left to them both. With the ability to fund any of her archaeological interests, Perdita moves into her new home and as she starts to look into her grandmother's research, she uncovers papers on Catherine Howard and a mystery that is aching to be solved. But can Perdita ever figure out why her grandmother abandoned them when they needed her most? And what was her grandmother's connection to Catherine Howard? Switching from past to present, there is never a dull moment whether we are following Catherine back in the sixteenth century as she navigates family expectations and a husband that is increasingly volatile, or whether we are watching Perdita as she takes stock of everything that has changed and the secrets from her own past. There is drama, lies, hidden agendas and so much more nestled among the pages and I devoured THE CATHERINE HOWARD CONSPIRACY by Alexandra Walsh in one evening. This is the first book in an exciting new series and I cannot wait for what is to come, and this is the perfect read for historical fiction and contemporary drama fans alike. AUTHOR BIO From tales spun for her teddies when she was a child (usually about mermaids) to film scripts, plays and novels, Alexandra Walsh has always been a storyteller. Words are her world. For over 25 years, she has been a journalist writing for a wide range of publications including national newspapers and glossy magazines. She spent some years working in the British film industry, as well as in television and radio: researching, advising, occasionally presenting and always writing. Books dominate Alexandra’s life. She reads endlessly and tends to become a bit panicky if her next three books are not lined up and waiting. Characters, places, imagery all stay with her and even now she finds it difficult to pass an old wardrobe without checking it for a door to Narnia. As for her magical letter when she was 11, she can only assume her cat caught the owl! Alexandra’s other passion is history, particularly the untold tales of women. Whether they were queens or paupers, their voices resonate with their stories, not only about their own lives but about ours, too. The women of the Tudor court have inspired her novels. Researching and writing The Marquess House Trilogy (Book One: The Catherine Howard Conspiracy) has brought together her love of history, mysteries and story telling. ABOUT THIS BOOK When Kelly Bridge’s parents insist on employing a bodyguard for her protection, she’s not happy. Okay, so maybe not every woman is on the cusp of developing a vaccine against a potential biological terrorist attack – but crikey, it’s not like she’s a celebrity! Ben Jacobs flunked spectacularly out of school, so he knows his new client Dr Kelly Bridge spells trouble for him. But on a conference trip to Rome he finds things are worse than he thought. Not only is he falling for the brilliant scientist, he’s also become horribly aware she’s in grave danger. As they go on the run, dodging bullets and kidnappers, can he resist his feelings and keep her safe? MY REVIEW CRIKEY A BODYGUARD by Kathryn Freeman is an energetic and action-packed romance that is sure to set your pulse racing. When Kelly's parents insist that she has a bodyguard as she finishes up her work on a vaccine that could be used against a terror threat, she thinks they are paranoid beyond belief. But it isn't long before they are proved right in their fears and Kelly must disappear with the man who will take a bullet for her, Ben Jacobs. As they try to figure out who is behind the threat, Ben and Kelly become close and the sizzling chemistry between them cannot be denied. But Ben won't let his heart get involved and hurt again. As danger follows them at every turn will they be able to uncover the truth and protect their hearts along the way? Engaging, well-paced, and with plenty of drama to keep you interested, I really enjoyed CRIKEY A BODYGUARD by Kathryn Freeman. I enjoyed Kelly's character who is intelligent, strong, and knows her own mind, even if she is a little naive at times. Ben's character really worked for me and it was interesting to watch him figure out his past baggage as he dealt with his feelings for Kelly - although he did take some stupid risks at times! CRIKEY A BODYGUARD by Kathryn Freeman is another great story by this author and is sure to please romance fans everywhere. AUTHOR BIO I was born in Wallingford, England and have spent most of my life living in a village outside Windsor. A former pharmacist, former pharmaceutical industry employee I’m now a self-employed medical writer who also loves to write romance. Some days a racing heart is a medical condition, others it’s the reaction to a hunky hero… I’ve two teenage boys and a husband who asks every Valentine’s Day whether he has to bother buying a card again this year (yes, he does) so the romance in my life is all in my head. Then again, my husband’s unstinting support of my career change goes to prove that love isn't always about hearts and flowers - and heroes can come in many disguises For more information: Website - kathrynfreeman.co.uk Twitter - twitter.com/KathrynFreeman1 Facebook - www.facebook.com/kathrynfreeman/ DON'T FORGET TO CHECK OUT ALL OF THE OTHER STOPS ALONG THE WAY!!!! ABOUT THIS BOOK When you’re pregnant you think: ‘I’m having a baby’, not a person who will eventually catch trains by themselves, share a fridge with ten strangers, go to a festival in Croatia without succumbing to a drug overdose, and one day, bring you a gin and tonic when your mother is dying. We imagine the teenage years as a sort of domestic meteor strike, when our dear, sweet child, hitherto so trusting and mild, is suddenly replaced by a sarcastic know-all who isn’t interested in the wisdom we have to pass on. But with great honesty and refreshingly bracing wit, Stephanie Calman shows that adolescence in fact begins much earlier, around the age of seven. And having nurtured them through every stage of development, from walking to school by themselves to their first all-night party, you find yourself alone – bereaved even – as they skip off to university without a second glance. MY REVIEW Hilarious, poignant, and relatable on so many levels, CONFESSIONS OF A BAD MOTHER, THE TEENAGE YEARS by Stephanie Calman is a must-read for parents at every stage of their parenting journey. As is so wonderfully portrayed in this book, the beginning of your children becoming independent and more mature is not a sudden light switch moment on their thirteenth birthday but a gradual shift as they begin to find their way into their own personalities. But what about you, the parent? How do you cope with your kids becoming independent people in their own right (and pointing out to you everything that you do and say wrong all the time, lol!)? Your kids who still need you but not always in the same way as before as they become adults themselves. Well, this book will certainly open your eyes to your future in so many ways. There were so many times where I laughed and commiserated with the drama and antics in CONFESSIONS OF A BAD MOTHER, and there were also times where I got emotional because I'm a parent who wants my kids to flourish, grow, and make their way into the big bad world, but it is an awfully big, bad world at times and I also want to protect them from what life may throw at them. This book really hit home for me and made me stop and think so many times that I believe it should to be on every bookshelf in the country! CONFESSIONS OF A BAD MOTHER, THE TEENAGE YEARS by Stephanie Calman is sure to be a huge hit and I highly recommend it. AUTHOR BIO Stephanie Calman is the founder of the ground-breaking Bad Mothers Club website and the author of six previous books including the bestselling Confessions of a Bad Mother. She created the hit Channel 4 sitcom Dressing For Breakfast and has appeared on many TV shows including Have I Got News For You and The Wright Stuff. She has also written for most British newspapers and magazines including the Daily Telegraph, Observer, Guardian, Cosmopolitan, GQ, and Harpers & Queen, and has contributed to a wide variety of radio programmes, including Woman's Hour and The Today Programme. ABOUT THIS BOOK When Allegra O’Brien discovers her husband’s infidelity, her world is shattered and she seeks solace in the sanctuary family. Her Italian grandpapas’s tales of legendary Mama Cosima and the mysterious Peacock Room reawaken her love of historic, interior architecture, inspiring Allegra to take a trip to Tuscany to learn more about her heritage. While a dangerous encounter throws her off course, a handsome stranger helps Allegra discover there is more to her family history than she could ever imagine. With her new-found confidence, and in the wake of her grandpapa’s illness, Allegra makes an unexpected discovery, and finally commits to the promise she made to solve a family mystery. MY REVIEW Brimming with mystery and drama, THE PEACOCK ROOM by Merryn Corcoran is an unusual tale of secrets from start to finish. When Allegra discovers that her husband has been cheating on her and has fallen in love with a much younger woman, she is devastated. She put her dreams to one side for him and it was all for nothing. Needing a break, she travels to Tuscany where her family are from, and falls in love with history and architecture all over again. Determined to discover more about her grandfather and the mysterious Peacock Room that he always mentions on his lucid days, Allegra soon finds herself trying to solve a family mystery and there may just be a hint of romance along the way. There is a lot going on in this story - from family betrayals, a mystery from the past, art history and architecture, and romance, so you will never get bored. The characters are interesting and I really enjoyed the descriptions of each setting that brought the beauty of Italy to life as I read. THE PEACOCK ROOM by Merryn Corcoran is a blend of history, mystery, drama, and romance and is sure to have something for everyone among its pages.
