ABOUT THIS BOOK From the Scottish highlands, to the bustle and tussle of London, to a hotel on the outskirts of town, three unforgettable authors bring the joy of Christmas romance in Kissing Under the Mistletoe. Great Scot! by Suzanne Enoch Miss Jane Bansil knows she will never have a fairy-tale moment. Well past the marriageable age, she’s taken a position as a companion and is now stuck in Scotland for Christmas, alone even in the middle of the boisterous MacTaggert family. But when Brennan Andrews, an architect and cousin to the MacTaggerts, arrives to draw up plans for a new family home, Jane must decide if she will take a chance at a happily-ever-after, or settle into her small, safe life for good. Christmas at Dewberry Hollow by Amelia Grey Miss Isabelle Reed has no plans to ever fall in love. She has a perfectly acceptable life with her mother at the Dewberry Hollow Inn, thank you very much. But when Gate, the Duke of Notsgrave’s grandson, appears at Dewberry Hollow searching for a carving on a tree, Isabelle cannot help but get involved. But Gate’s charm and their instant attraction makes Isabelle question if she’s willing to take her chance at love once again. My Mistletoe Beau by Anna Bennett Miss Eva Tiding is determined to cheer her widowed father with the perfect Christmas gift. Even if it means breaking into the home of the rakish Earl of Frostbough who swindled Papa out of his pocket watch. But when the earl, Jack Hardwick, catches her in the act, they strike a deal: she’ll pose as his fiancée in exchange for the watch. Falling in love is not part of the plan—but with a little Christmas magic, anything is possible… MY REVIEW A heartwarming collection of Christmas romance with characters that you will fall head over heels for, KISSING UNDER THE MISTLETOE is the perfect book to melt your heart and get you into a festive mood. Historical romance set at Christmas is one of my favourite genres so when I got the opportunity to read this book, I was so excited. I loved the three main heroines in each story and while they are all very different in their own right, they have some wonderful qualities in common too: they are all intelligent, honest, strong, and willing to do what has to be done for those they love. As each of these three women encounter the men that are made for them, it was enjoyable to watch them go after what they want and open up their hearts to love and passion. Sizzling tension, Christmas traditions, and true love blooms in each story but I have to say that my favourite was My Mistletoe Beau by Anna Bennett, simply because Eva and Jack just spoke to my heart and I felt more connected to them. As always with these authors, the setting and time period flares to life and with a sprinkle of Christmas magic, painted the picture even that more vividly. KISSING UNDER THE MISTLETOE is everything you could look for in festive historical romance and I don't know about you, but I'm ready for Christmas so bring it on! ABOUT THIS BOOK Once Upon A Crime… Nancy Hunter and her grandmother Jane Hunter run the Dedley Endings Bookshop, selling crime, thriller and mystery books, in a small, quiet Cotswold village where nothing ever happens… That is, until the wealthy and reclusive Roth family open up their mansion for the first time in thirty years, inviting the people of Dedley End to a lavish engagement party. While everyone is thrilled to finally look around the mansion on the hill, the festivities are quickly cut short when beautiful Lucy, recently married to young Harry Roth, is found dead after being pushed over the first-floor balustrade. But who among the guests could have been capable of her murder – and why? Nancy and Jane decide to investigate – after all, not only do they own a crime themed bookshop, they were also both named after famous literary detectives – but soon wonder if they’ve taken on more than they can handle. Especially when it seems the killer has worked out that they’re hot on their heels… Can they catch the murderer before the murderer catches up with them? Or will there be a deadly ending to this story? MY REVIEW A murder mystery that will have you donning your detective hat and searching for clues, MURDER AT THE HOUSE ON THE HILL by Victoria Walters is everything you could want in a cosy mystery and more! Nancy Hunter loves her life, running her family bookstore with her grandmother, Jane, in the picture-perfect village of Dedley End, and spending time with her childhood friends Jonathan and Penelope. But exciting is not a word that would ever be used to describe Dedley End. So when the extremely wealthy Roth family unexpectedly invites most of the village to an engagement party up at the manor, it sends the village into a tailspin. Eager to see inside, Nancy is delighted to receive an invitation. But when the dead body of Lucy Roth is discovered only moments after the party begins, it quickly becomes a search for a murderer. Just who are the Roths and why are they so secretive? And who hated Lucy enough to kill her? Determined to find answers, Nancy, with the help of Jane and Jonathan, start piecing together the truth which isn't always easy or straightforward. Throw in an ex-boyfriend who decides that he is ready for love, lies and betrayals from the past, and a shocking revelation that changes everything, Nancy has a lot on her plate. But can she uncover the truth before it's too late? I love a good murder mystery and this story ticked all of the boxes for me. I loved the community and the feeling that I got as I learned more about Dedley End, and I could easily picture it all which shows the author's talent at making settings come alive. The characters are amazing - loveable (with the exception of a few!), engaging, and brimming with personality that made them all feel like friends - and I felt like I really got to know them all which was lovely. There were plenty of twists and misdirections in the plot which I love in a mystery as there is nothing worse than figuring out who the killer is early on. I chopped and changed my mind numerous times along the way and only figured out the truth around the same time as Nancy. A cosy murder mystery with heart and exceptional characters, MURDER AT THE HOUSE ON THE HILL by Victoria Walters is captivating from start to finish and I cannot wait for the next book in what I hope will be a deliciously long series! AUTHOR INFO Victoria Walters writes up-lifting and inspiring stories. She's the author of the bestselling Glendale Hall series and two acclaimed standalone novels – Summer at the Kindness Cafe, and The Second Love of My Life. She has been chosen for WHSmith Fresh Talent, picked as an Amazon Rising Star, and shortlisted for two RNA awards. ABOUT THIS BOOK The song surrounded her now, the murmuring of the library insistent, and her foot took the first step on the winding stairs. She knew it wasn’t entirely a dream. It was the library calling her, its magic driving her. When Sophie is offered a job at the Ayredale Library – the finest collection of rare books in the world, and the last place her bookbinder mother was seen when Sophie was just a teenager – she leaps at the chance. Will she finally discover what happened to the woman she’s always believed abandoned her? Taking in the endless shelves of antique books, the soaring stained-glass windows, and the grand sweeping staircase, usually shy Sophie feels strangely at home, and is welcomed by her eccentric fellow binders. But why is the Keeper of the Library so reluctant to speak about Sophie’s mother? And why is Sophie the only person who can read the strange spells in the oldest books on display, written in a forgotten language nobody else understands? The mysteries of the library only deepen when Sophie stumbles upon an elaborately carved door. The pattern exactly matches the pendant her mother left behind years ago, engraved with a delicate leaf. As the door swings open at her touch, Sophie gasps at the incredible sight: an enormous tree, impossibly growing higher than the library itself, its gently falling golden leaves somehow resembling the pages of a book. Amidst their rustling, Sophie hears a familiar whisper… ‘There you are, my Sophie. I knew you’d come back for me.’ MY REVIEW A beautiful and spell-binding story about heritage, love, and embracing the past, THE BOOKBINDER'S DAUGHTER by Jessica Thorne is magical in every possible way. Many years ago on a fateful night, Sophie's mother simply vanished into thin air. Ripped from the only home she had ever known by her father in his grief, he trained Sophie to be a talented bookbinder, but he was no longer the man she used to know and love. Time passed and Sophie has very few memories of the place she used to call home or of her mother, only what she sees in her dreams. But when her father passes away, her uncle arrives and offers her a job opportunity of a lifetime at Ayredale Library, her childhood home. Determined to break free from a controlling relationship and discover the truth about what happened all those years ago, Sophie accepts. But nothing could prepare her for old feelings to flare to life, the stunning surroundings of the greatest library ever created, or the mysteries that are waiting for her to unlock them. Because Sophie is special and the magic is calling to her. Compelling and engaging characters and a stunning setting that comes alive on the page combine to make this book unputdownable. Sophie is quiet and timid but she wasn't always that way and seeing her return to Ayredale where she belongs was fantastic as she grew more confident with what she wants and who she wants to become. I loved the magical and historical elements of this book as a whole new world came to light on each page. Will is a wonderful character and I wanted him to find the strength to embrace who he was completely. The importance of friendship and belonging are expertly woven throughout this tale and the idea that family is those who love you and choose you is firmly placed throughout too. THE BOOKBINDER'S DAUGHTER has got it all - fantasy, magic, romance, betrayal, secrets, and lies - and I cannot wait to read more from Jessica Thorne. AUTHOR BIO Jessica Thorne watched far too much sci-fi and read far too much fantasy at an impressionable age. And it was awesome. She writes fantasy and sci-fi romance with a steampunk edge and just refuses to face reality. ABOUT THIS BOOK When violinist Anna Sun accidentally achieves career success with a viral YouTube video, she finds herself incapacitated and burned out from her attempts to replicate that moment. And when her longtime boyfriend announces he wants an open relationship before making a final commitment, a hurt and angry Anna decides that if he wants an open relationship, then she does, too. Translation: She's going to embark on a string of one-night stands. The more unacceptable the men, the better. That's where tattooed, motorcycle-riding Quan Diep comes in. Their first attempt at a one-night stand fails, as does their second, and their third, because being with Quan is more than sex - he accepts Anna on an unconditional level that she has just started to understand herself. However, when tragedy strikes Anna's family she takes on a role that she is ill-suited for, until the burden of expectations threatens to destroy her. Anna and Quan have to fight for their chance at love, but to do that, they also have to fight for themselves. MY REVIEW A heart-warming and at times, heart-wrenching, story of love, loss, and understanding yourself, THE HEART PRINCIPLE by Helen Hoang is the third book in this series and the one that packed the biggest emotional punch. Anna Sun has lost her love for music and is trapped in a repetitive circle that seeks perfection in a way that will be forever unattainable. But that doesn't stop her from trying or from hiding all of her turmoil behind a smile for everyone around her. Both physically and emotionally exhausted from it all, everything reaches a tipping point when her boyfriend declares that he wants an open relationship before he will settle down with her. Hurt and confused, Anna decides that two can play at that game and matches online with Quan, but with him, she gets so much more than she bargained for, and for once it seems like someone sees her for her. Quan, once a lothario, has struggled when it comes to dating ever since his health scare but decides that Anna seems like the perfect candidate for a one-night stand. But when their one night doesn't exactly go to plan, a second, third, and fourth night become more appealing anyway. Because Anna is unlike anyone he has ever dated and he loves her as he has never loved anyone before. But when Anna's family does not approve, her ex starts sniffing around her again, and a tragedy happens to someone she holds dear, will Anna do what she has always done and please everyone around her by being who they want her to be? Or will she fight to finally be seen? Emotionally compelling in a way that no other romance has ever been for me, THE HEART PRINCIPLE by Helen Hoang is a raw and honest look at the power of familial expectations and the strength it takes to be yourself when everyone you love cannot see you. Quan and Anna are wonderful characters full of depth and substance, and I wanted Anna to concentrate on herself and find peace while realising that Quan truly loves her no matter what. This book made me laugh, made me smile, and definitely made me cry, and it has cemented my fan status for this exceptional author. An excellent story on every level, THE HEART PRINCIPLE is a must-read! AUTHOR BIO Helen Hoang read her first romance novel in high-school and has been addicted ever since. In 2016, she was formally diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder in line with what was previously known as Asperger's Syndrome, Her journey inspired The Kiss Quotient. She currently lives in California with her husband, two kids and a pet fish To keep up-to-date with Helen, you can follow here: Website - www.helenhoang.com Twitter - twitter.com/HHoangWrites Facebook - www.facebook.com/HHoangWrites/ Instagram - www.instagram.com/hhoangwrites/ |
