ABOUT THIS BOOK What if you could go back in time and fix the biggest mistake of your life? Two years ago, Maisie’s best friend walked out of her life and she hasn’t heard from him since. When she wakes up in 1994, she naturally assumes she’s dreaming. But when she finds herself in the past again the next night and her actions in the dream alter her present-day life, she begins to wonder if she’s somehow hopping back in time. And if she is time-travelling, can she save her friendship with Jonas? When Maisie is forced to relive Christmases of the past, will she face up to her mistakes, or make them all over again? MY REVIEW A warm and inviting story about friendship and the mistakes we make in life, THE 12 CHRISTMASES OF YOU & ME by Jennifer Joyce is an enjoyable read from start to finish. When Maisie finds herself dreaming about the past, when her best friend Jonas was still in her life, she doesn't think too much about it. But when the decisions she makes in the dreams begin to change her current life, she starts to wonder what is going on! Could she be travelling back in time in her sleep? And is there a chance that she could fix the problems of the past and fix the relationships that were broken years ago with those that she loves? I'm always sceptical of stories that have a time-travel element but I have to say that Jennifer Joyce gets the tone perfectly right and it really worked for me. Maisie is a likeable character and I enjoyed seeing the flashbacks of her life, the mistakes she had made, and how her friendship with Jonas had gone so wrong. With some festive magic thrown in for good measure, the setting and atmosphere of this story were lovely and there was never a dull moment. A lovely story about friendship, life, and facing the past, I highly recommend THE 12 CHRISTMASES OF YOU & ME by Jennifer Joyce to all fiction fans. It's a great story to escape into for a few hours. AUTHOR BIO Jennifer Joyce is a writer of romantic comedies who lives in Manchester with her husband and their two daughters. She's been scribbling down bits of stories for as long as she can remember, graduating from a pen to a typewriter and then an electronic typewriter. And she felt like the bee's knees typing on THAT. She now writes her books on a laptop (which has a proper delete button and everything). ABOUT THIS BOOK Can Kerra's Cornish hometown offer the fresh start she needs? When Kerra left the quiet Cornish town of Penvennan Cove for the bright lights of London she didn't look back. But after the death of her mother, she's decided it's time to face her past and return to the place she called home. Her father needs her, and perhaps she needs him more than she's willing to admit? Tackling town gossip, home renovations and a flame from her past, it's not quite smooth sailing for Kerra. Ross is the bad boy she was meant to forget, not a man who still sets her heart aflutter. As he helps bring her dream home to life, they begin to break down the barriers that have been holding them back and in the process learn things about themselves they never thought possible. MY REVIEW A warm and enjoyable story from start to finish, COMING HOME TO PENVENNAN COVE by Linn B. Halton is a gentle balm to all of the craziness that is happening at the moment. When Kerra's mother dies, she soon finds herself leaving the hustle and bustle of the big city to return to her childhood home in Cornwall to look after her father who needs her, even though he thinks he doesn't. It might take Kerra a little while to adjust to small-town living again but she wants to make it work and first up is some renovations for their cottage. But Kerra soon learns that some things never change, like nosy gossips always having an opinion on everything and everyone. And Kerra is soon finding it harder to push down old feelings for her building contractor, Ross, her first crush from all those years ago. As relationships develop, friendships are formed, and trust begins to grow, will this move prove to be the best decision Kerra ever made? Or will she find herself yearning to return to city life where things were less complicated? A gently paced romance that will leave you feeling warm inside, COMING HOME TO PENVENNAN COVE is sure to put a smile on your face. Kerra and Ross are great characters and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know them. This story has a little something for everyone but most of all it has real heart, which I have come to expect with Linn B. Halton, and I am already looking forward to more from one of my favourite authors in this genre. A truly lovely story! AUTHOR BIO From interior designer to author, when Linn B. Halton's not writing, or spending time with the family, she's either upcycling furniture or working in the garden. Linn won the 2013 UK Festival of Romance: Innovation in Romantic Fiction award; her novels have been short-listed in the UK's Festival of Romance and the eFestival of Words Book Awards. Living in Coed Duon in the Welsh Valleys with her 'rock', Lawrence, and gorgeous Bengal cat Ziggy, she freely admits she's an eternal romantic. ABOUT THIS BOOK Harry Probert-Lloyd has inherited the estate of Glanteifi and appointed his assistant John as under-steward. But his true vocation, to be coroner, is under threat. Against his natural instincts, Harry must campaign if he is to be voted as coroner permanently by the local people and politicking is not his strength. On the hustings, Harry and John are called to examine the body of Nicholas Rowland, a radical and pioneering schoolteacher whose death may not be the accident it first appeared. What was Rowland’s real relationship with his eccentric patron, Miss Gwatkyn? And why does Harry’s rival for the post of coroner deny knowing him? Harry’s determination to uncover the truth threatens to undermine both his campaign and his future. MY REVIEW An excellent plot with plenty of intrigue and twists to keep you hooked, THOSE WHO KNOW by Alis Hawkins is everything I wanted in a thriller and then some more for good measure. Harry is in the untenable position of having to fight for his position as a permanent coroner which is his true calling. Politics is not his forte and he is struggling. And when the death of schoolteacher, Nicholas Rowland, is discovered, the local people are in shock. But when it becomes obvious that Nicholas was the victim of murder rather than an accident, Harry and his assistant John must figure out the truth even if it means Harry's dream could slip out of his hands. Compelling and intelligent like the previous two books in this series, THOSE WHO KNOW blends fascinating characters, local politics, and murder effortlessly and it left me wanting more. While Harry tries to deal with the many difficulties in his life, he doesn't let them steer him off course as he pieces the truth together with the help of John, and I loved watching them work together. THOSE WHO KNOW by Alis Hawkins is a beautifully written story of deception and death, and I highly recommend this book and this series to fiction fans everywhere. AUTHOR BIO Alis Hawkins grew up on a dairy farm in Cardiganshire. After attending the local village primary school and Cardigan County Secondary school, she left West Wales to read English at Oxford. Subsequently, she has has done various things with her life, including becoming a speech and language therapist, bringing up two sons, selling burgers, working with homeless people, and helping families to understand their autistic children. And writing. Always. Nonfiction (autism related), plays (commissioned by heritage projects) and, of course, novels. Alis's first novel, Testament, was published in 2008 by Macmillan and was translated into several languages. (It has recently been acquired for reissue, along with her medieval trilogy of psychological thrillers by Sapere Books). Her current historical crime series featuring blind investigator Harry Probert-Lloyd and his chippy assistant, John Davies, is set in Cardiganshire in the period immediately after the Rebecca Riots. As a side-effect of setting her series there, instead of making research trips to sunny climes like more foresighted writers, she just drives up the M4 to see her family. Now living with her partner on the wrong side of the Welsh/English border (though she sneaks back over to work for the National Autistic Society in Monmouthshire) Alis speaks Welsh, collects rucksacks and can't resist an interesting fact To keep up-to-date with this author, follow here: Website - alishawkins.co.uk Twitter - twitter.com/Alis_Hawkins Facebook - www.facebook.com/AlisHawkinsAuthor Instagram - www.instagram.com/alishawkinsauthor/ DON'T FORGET TO CHECK OUT ALL OF THE OTHER STOPS ALONG THE WAY!!! |
