ABOUT THIS BOOK

Fran’s wedding dress shop isn’t like any other. A treasure trove of history, filled with gowns from every decade for every type of bride. But not as you’d expect.

Something bold for the shy and retiring.
Something simple for the woman who is unafraid to stand out.
And something dazzling for the bride who wouldn’t normally dare to be different.

No matter your expectations, you’d never guess your own perfect dress. But Fran knows… she feels the wisdom woven into every gown, a gift from the previous owner waiting to be handed down to the next bride.

When Fran finds a dress that seems to be perfect for her she can’t wait to know its complex history which starts with her getting to know the son of the previous owner…

MY REVIEW

Beautiful, heartwarming, and fascinating in every way, THE PERFECT DRESS by Louisa Leaman is a wonderful story about past and present coming together and finding hope for the future.

Fran has a gift. Through her vintage wedding shop, she brings the past alive through each special piece and matches them perfectly to each bride in turn. Fran throws herself into researching each and every piece and every time she finds the perfect match she feels like she is helping love bloom in an extra special way. She lives for her dresses but there is one dress that she has locked away because it causes her too much pain and she is just not ready to deal with it. But when a very unique dress crosses her path it also brings Fran into contact with Raf Colt, a surly workaholic who doesn't believe in love and marriage having lived through his own family heartache and tragedy. But there is something that calls each to the other but will the tragic history of this family heirloom bring more heartbreak into their world? Or can true love find a way?

Breathtaking from start to finish, I completely fell in love with the characters and the vintage fashion in this fresh and vibrant story of design and devotion. Fran is quirky, colourful, and someone to admire, following her passion and breathing happiness and positivity into this world. But when it comes to her own love life she is blocked and I enjoyed getting to unravel her past and see her move on. I know absolutely nothing about fashion but I fell under this author's spell as fabrics, designs, and the magic of the fashion world came alive on each page and captured my interest at every turn. I love the idea that vintage clothes and accessories hold memories and an essence from who came before and THE PERFECT DRESS by Louisa Leaman is truly special in this way.

THE PERFECT DRESS by Louisa Leaman is vibrant and alive like the dresses hidden inside and I cannot wait to read more from this talented author.

ABOUT THIS BOOK

In a quiet corner of Edinburgh, Cat Thomas is going through hell.
She’s tried everything. He respects nothing.

If your neighbour was making your life hell ...
Would you call upon the devil?

Cat Thomas, a brilliant fraud investigator, has just relocated from Florida to a dreamy flat in historic Edinburgh. Everything seems perfect. Everything seems serene. Except for the unbelievably noisy wannabe rockstar upstairs.

Soon Cat’s blissful new life is in ruins. Desperate, she's willing to try anything. When all else fails, she makes an appeal ... to Satan.

And suddenly everything is eerily quiet. But her nightmare has only just begun ...

MY REVIEW

Compelling, enigmatic, and deliciously dark, THE DEVIL UPSTAIRS by Anthony O'Neill is truly unique and held me captive from beginning to end.

Cat Thomas has had a traumatic past but she is tough and has built a reputation for herself as a fantastic fraud investigator. But after taking down a crime organisation in Florida, her home, she knows that it is time for a change and relocates to beautiful Edinburgh, where she has always felt an affinity. Soon she has settled into the perfect flat, has begun her new job, and is even making friends, which for Cat is definitely not the norm. Life is perfect. Or is it? Cat soon discovers that she has a neighbour who is a musician in the flat upstairs and she can hear everything - from him going to the bathroom to closing a press. And what's worse is that he is rude and unhelpful, and appears to enjoy making noise just to annoy her. Soon Cat isn't able to sleep, her work starts to spiral downwards and she feels like she is losing her mind. She would do anything to make this guy stop, even go to a charade of a meeting where everyone claims to be witches and worship Satan. It's not like it was real, right?
But when her neighbour ends up murdered, Cat begins to worry and as more dead bodies start to appear, all people who are making life difficult for Cat,  it looks like someone is willing to do whatever it takes to make life easier for her ...

The devil is in the detail and boy does the detail work well in this story. The characters are quirky and interesting, and while it took a while to get to know Cat, I liked her instantly and wanted her to be happy. The mystic ambience that exudes from Edinburgh as a city is well portrayed and added that extra something to the drama and dark magic that was taking place throughout the story. There are plenty of twists and turns and I loved the fresh approach taken by the author at the end which made the story even more enjoyable.

THE DEVIL UPSTAIRS by Anthony O'Neill really defies being locked into a specific genre because it is truly distinctive but if you love a good mystery with an excellent setting and refreshing characters and plotlines, than THE DEVIL UPSTAIRS is for you. I look forward to more from this author.

ABOUT THIS BOOK

For once, Kate Peters would like a happy, family Christmas; the kind of
Christmas seen in the movies. She wants harmony and happiness, smiling,
glowing faces, tables groaning with food, carol singing around the
tree. She wants love, kindness, and goodwill to all men, especially in
her own house.

What she doesn’t want is drama. Absolutely no drama, whatsoever.

But what she gets is three stroppy children, two equally stroppy
grandmothers, a husband who can’t manage to change a lightbulb, and Pepe
the poodle.

It’s no wonder she feels unappreciated, overworked, and ignored. At the end
of her tinsel-coated tether, and with the only Christmas spirit being in
the form of a bottle of raspberry gin, Kate decides to leave them to it,
and see how they manage without her.

A quiet little hotel somewhere near the sea, where she can pretend
Christmas doesn’t exist, is just the thing she needs. Isn’t it?

MY REVIEW

A TYPICAL FAMILY CHRISTMAS by Liz Davies is an entertaining story of family life, squabbles and all, and the reality of what can happen when it all gets a little bit too much.

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, lights twinkling on the tree while a festive movie plays on the TV, laughter, good food, and a feeling of love and content. That's all that Kate Peters hopes for this Christmas. But instead, she has both sets of mothers who hate each other and compete over everything, teenage children who are spoiled and selfish, a husband who cannot make the simplest of decisions when it comes to his family and leaves everything for Kate to sort out, and a dog with an incontinence problem. Merry Christmas! So when Kate overhears something very hurtful it is the last straw and she walks out. Maybe leaving them to look after themselves this Christmas will make them appreciate her a little bit more.

Warm and engaging throughout, A TYPICAL FAMILY CHRISTMAS by Liz Davies is the reality check of family life at Christmas that will entertain you and make you laugh from start to finish. But there is also a more sensitive and serious side to this story showing the pressure that families put themselves under to make everything as perfect as possible all the time and how, in the daily to and fro of life, parents can often forget about taking care of themselves and their relationship with each other.

A TYPICAL FAMILY CHRISTMAS by Liz Davies is a lovely story and I look forward to reading more from this author.

AUTHOR BIO

Liz Davies writes feel-good, light-hearted stories with a hefty dose of romance, a smattering of humour, and a great deal of love.

She’s married to her best friend, has one grown-up daughter, and when she isn’t scribbling away in the notepad she carries with her everywhere (just in case inspiration strikes), you’ll find her searching for that perfect pair of shoes. She loves to cook but isn’t very good at it, and loves to eat - she’s much better at that! Liz also enjoys walking (preferably on the flat), cycling (also on the flat), and lots of sitting around in the garden on warm, sunny days.

She currently lives with her family in Wales, but would ideally love to buy a camper van and travel the world in it.

ABOUT THIS BOOK

On a grey London day, Esme’s world crumbles around her when she loses her glitzy job on a top TV programme, her gorgeous, city-slicker boyfriend and her stunning apartment, all in one fell swoop just before Christmas.

Esme is forced suddenly to move back to her sleepy home town of Sandchester, and despite the snow blanketing the roof and the fairy lights that twinkle in her rustic little cottage, everything is looking bleak. That is until she reconnects with an old crush and finds herself unexpectedly getting swept away.

But Joe, handsome and charming as he is, is not all he seems. Esme soon realises that he has a tragic past which he just might not be able to overcome…

Surrounded by her loving, if hare-brained, family and with the support of her hilarious friends, Esme is determined to have a go at forging her own path, even if it all comes to nothing. But one question still lingers in her mind: will she find someone to kiss under the mistletoe this Christmas?

MY REVIEW

SNOWFLAKES AT MISTLETOE COTTAGE by Katie Ginger is funny, endearing, and with just the right amount of cosy, festive magic to make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Esme works as a food technician for a glitzy TV programme but when the presenter of the show steals Esme's cooking idea and presents it to their boss as their own, Esme refuses to let her get away with it and challenges her, which results in Esme losing her job. Well, at least she can sob into the arms of her long-term boyfriend Leo whom she suspects is going to propose this Christmas. But it turns out she can't, as he dumps her on the same day she gets fired and soon moves his new love interest into the flat. Homeless, jobless, and having lost some of her spark, Esme heads back home to her childhood town of Sandchester where her sometimes crazy family, are ready and waiting with comfort and support. And when an old school classmate, Joe, helps to find her somewhere to live, things may just be starting to look up.
Esme is a wonderful cook and wants her grandmother's recipes and her own to be shared with the world so what better time than now to focus on her dreams. But Esme soon comes to learn that dreams don't pay the rent and with vlog mishaps, and Esme's growing confusion about her past relationship and how she is beginning to have feelings for Joe who has been such a great friend, this Christmas is sure to be an eventful one. With crazy mishaps, an ex wanting another chance, the best friends a girl could ask for, and some heartbreaking secrets along the way, has Esme found the place where all of her dreams can come true?

Engaging, witty, and with a wonderful cast of characters (except for a certain love rat!), SNOWFLAKES AT MISTLETOE COTTAGE by Katie Ginger hooked me from the start and had me laughing plenty along the way. But there is also a sensitive side to this story as Esme and Joe try to figure out their past relationships and learn to let go. I loved Esme's friends who were all funny and caring but Esme's mum stole the show for me and entertained at every moment. I read this book in one sitting because I simply could not put it down and when it was over I found myself wishing that it wasn't - I really hope that this isn't the last we see of this group!

SNOWFLAKES AT MISTLETOE COTTAGE by Katie Ginger is the perfect Christmas read and I highly recommend it to all fiction fans.

ABOUT THIS BOOK

Alice, Victoria and Molly couldn't be more different and yet they share a friendship that stems back to their childhood – a friendship that provides everyday solace from the tribulations and heartbreak of war. Perfect for fans of Elaine Everest, Daisy Styles and Rosie Hendry.

All the Foyles girls want this Christmas is their loved ones back safe and sound and to look foward to a New Year without the shadow of war...

The final book in Elaine Roberts' heartwarming Foyles Girlstrilogy.

MY REVIEW

A moving story of love and friendship, CHRISTMAS AT THE FOYLES BOOKSHOP by Elaine Roberts is sure to please historical fiction fans everywhere.

This tight-knit bunch of friends return as we get to know more about Alice, Victoria, and Molly's lives during wartime. I had not read the previous books in the series which is something that I intend to rectify but getting to know each of these women and watching their care for each other was a lovely thing to behold. The setting of the bookshop was simply magical and I felt like I was there each time as the author is great at painting a picture and a sense of place for the reader.

It is a story of hope and moving forward but is also true to its time and the harsh realities of war for soldiers and their loved ones are well portrayed and are sure to make you grab for the tissues at times.

CHRISTMAS AT THE FOYLES BOOKSHOP by Elaine Roberts shows the power of friendship and the strength women find in themselves and each other when needs must, and I look forward to reading more from this author.

ABOUT THIS BOOK

Recovering after an illness Meg is far from in the Christmas mood, in fact she’s hardly aware it’s approaching at all. They didn’t celebrate it where she grew up and she’s never gone in for the tinsel, baubles and mistletoe of it all. But when the opportunity arises to spend the run up to Christmas in the snowy countryside, rather than dreary London, she can’t say she isn’t curious… although she’ll definitely leave before they bring out the turkey.

Tasked with painting two portraits in not very much time, Meg sets to work. Although it doesn’t take long for the magic in the air to begin to make her wonder just a little curious about what a proper family Christmas might be like.

But just as she’s beginning to settle in she spots a familiar face. Lex… more like a missile than a blast from the past. Despite the wonderful festive cheer, Meg suddenly wants nothing more than to get as far away from Lex and their past secrets as she can. But she can’t leave until she’s finished the portraits and discovered what really is so magical about Christmas…

MY REVIEW

THE CHRISTMAS INVITATION by Trisha Ashley is a fabulous story of family, friendship, and forgiveness, with quirky and colourful characters that will feel like your best friends by the end.

Meg isn't exactly feeling up to work after just getting out of the hospital for pneumonia but when she gets commissioned to paint two portraits in a beautiful country home by the lady of the house, she can't really refuse. And who knows maybe a change of scene will do her the world of good?
And this is certainly a change of scene with a motley crew of creative and kind people who welcome Meg and make her feel like part of the furniture instantly. Well, all except Lex, a man from Meg's past whom she never expected to see again, who seems to seeth with displeasure every time he is around her. It is not Meg's fault that their misunderstanding all those years ago was never fully cleared up but she is damned if she is going to let him chase her away from her job and her first opportunity to experience a real family Christmas.
Throw in an unwanted ex, an attempted murder, some blackmail, and one very excitable little boy, and things are certainly going to get interesting this festive season ...

The setting is beautiful as it always is in Trisha Ashley's novels and I imagined every scene with picture-perfect quality due to her stunning detail. But it is the characters and their wonderful eccentricities that stole the show for me. I loved getting to know more about Meg and how she was raised at the farm by River and the rest of the commune as it was a refreshing change from the usual family set-up. Most novels have a cast of characters and it is unusual to love them all, especially the nasty ones, but I truly did enjoy all of the characters in this story because they all came alive in their own special way and had their important parts to play in making this story work so effortlessly from start to finish.
Yes, THE CHRISTMAS INVITATION is 517 pages long but I can tell you I whipped through this story in no time because I couldn't put it down and I really didn't want it to end (I'm desperately hoping this isn't the last that we have seen of this loveable bunch!).

THE CHRISTMAS INVITATION by Trisha Ashley is my favourite book of hers yet and if you only buy one book for the rest of this year, please make it this one. You won't regret it!!

ABOUT THIS BOOK

Lexie’s got the perfect life. And someone else wants it…

Lexie loves her home. She feels safe and secure in it – and loved, thanks to her boyfriend Tom.

But recently, something’s not been quite right. A book out of place. A wardrobe door left open. A set of keys going missing…

Tom thinks Lexie’s going mad – but then, he’s away more often than he’s at home nowadays, so he wouldn’t understand.

Because Lexie isn’t losing it. She knows there’s someone out there watching her. And, deep down, she knows there’s nothing she can do to make them stop…

MY REVIEW

Gripping, terrifying, and downright creepy, THROUGH THE WALL by Caroline Corcoran is superb from start to finish and I'm sure will be on our tv screens soon.

Everyone knows that neighbours in London don't usually know each other and are like strangers in the night who mumble the odd hello as they pass in the hallway. But when the walls are thin you cannot help but hear snippets of the other person's life and social media is always there to fill out the gaps. Harriet and Lexie live next door to each other. Lexie believes Harriet is sophisticated, successful, creative, and attractive in ways that she no longer is ever since she and Tom began trying for a baby two years ago. Lexi thinks Harriet has a perfect life while hers is slowly falling apart. Harriet believes Lexi has got everything she ever wanted with a happy relationship and true friendships, while Harriet struggles with her own heartbreak and past. She believes that Lexi is living the life that should be hers. And she wants to take it.

This story completely blew me away! The chapters are short and snappy which made the plot move along at a great pace and made getting to know the characters really easy. Lexi is a warm character who is struggling with fertility issues and my heart broke for her as she lost herself to the process and her relationship started to suffer. Harriet is a strange character in that she obviously suffered abuse in the past which has deeply affected her, but there is an edge to her that made me shiver at times and kept me hooked to her story just as much as Lexi's..

THROUGH THE WALL by Caroline Corcoran is the kind of psychological thriller that makes your skin crawl and makes you nervous and I highly recommend it to all fans of this genre. And did I mention that new neighbours have recently moved in beside me? Talk about timing!

ABOUT THIS BOOK

It’s the most wonderful time of the year…

Except for Daisy Christmas means another of Uncle T’s dreaded Christmas parties, complete with Christmas jumper and flashing antlers.  And Oliver Cartwright.  Gorgeous Oliver Cartwright. Who she hates.

Every year Daisy has to face insufferable Ollie and hear all about how BRILLIANT he is.  Whereas Daisy has no job, no man and no idea how to fix things.

This Christmas however Daisy is determined things will be different.  There will be no snogging Ollie under the mistletoe like when they were teenagers.  No, this year she’ll show Ollie that she’s a Responsible Adult too.

But as the champagne corks pop, and the tinsel sparkles, Uncle T has news of his own to share…and it could change Daisy's life forever…

MY REVIEW

Warm, witty, and enjoyable from start to finish, FOUR CHRISTMASES AND A SECRET by Zara Stoneley is the perfect read to curl up with as the evenings start to get chillier and darker.

Daisy's life is a bit of a mess at the moment and the fact that Uncle Terence's big Christmas celebration is looming makes her failures even more obvious. Because handsome Oliver will be there with his perfect life, and his mum and her mum will be going to war over whose child is the best, although this year Daisy feels Oliver has her beat. But sometimes when things seem a little bleak, fate has a little magic up its sleeve, and when her beloved Uncle T has some news of his own, everything may just change for Daisy ...

I loved the characters in this story. Daisy is kind and generous and I enjoyed watching her figure out her life and realise what she wants from the future. If I had to pick a favourite character it would be Uncle T hands down - eccentric, honest, and witty he is so loveable and he owns a bookstore so he is the perfect man!!
With plenty of drama, misunderstandings, secrets, and possible romance, FOUR CHRISTMASES AND A SECRET by Zara Stoneley leaves no stone unturned in the entertainment stakes and I can honestly say there was never a dull moment. A wonderful read by a wonderful author and I highly recommend this lovely story.
