But is royal blood really more important than the spark of true love? His father, the king, has devised his own test of true royalty, inviting the haughtiest heiress for miles around to spend a night at the castle, balanced atop a pile of mattresses concealing a single pea. But even though she passes the test, she is too outraged by sleep deprivation to stay beyond breakfast. Meanwhile Richard can’t stop thinking about Rosie O’Toole, the charming chambermaid who has taught him how to lay a fire and find true meaning in his life… When Rosie is unfairly dismissed and disappears without a trace, Richard is determined to find her. He must bring her back to the castle and reinstate her at once. But as he grows more desperate, Richard realises that he is no longer searching for a chambermaid, but for his one true love. MY REVIEW THE PRINCE AND THE PEA by Denise Deegan is the most delightful short read that I have had the pleasure to read in a long time. The perfect length if you are commuting to work or college, or simply if you have a quick break for a cup of tea, this charming retelling is sure to warm your heart. Prince Richard is uncertain about himself and his position in life. His father, the King, desperately wants him to get married to a princess and learn to be in control of the kingdom but Richard is not so sure. When he becomes acquainted with his chambermaid Rosie and strikes up a conversation, he will soon realise that there is so much more to life - like bringing warmth and caring to someone else's life. And when Rosie is fired from the castle and disappears without a trace, Richard takes charge and will search high and low for this woman who has opened his eyes. But what if she wants to remain hidden? Romantic, sweet, and uplifting THE PRINCE AND THE PEA by Denise Deegan contains a lot of feeling in its short pages and when I finished the last sentence I couldn't wipe the smile from my face.
