ABOUT THIS BOOK Cecilia Wilborg has it all--a loving husband, two beautiful daughters, and a gorgeous home in an affluent Norwegian suburb. And she works hard to keep it all together. Too hard... There is no room for mistakes in her life. Even taking home a little boy whose parents forgot to pick him up at the pool can put a crimp in Cecilia's carefully planned schedule. Especially when she arrives at the address she was given and finds an empty, abandoned house... There's nothing for Cecilia to do but to take the boy home with her, never realizing that soon his quiet presence and knowing eyes will trigger unwelcome memories from her past--and unravel her meticulously crafted life... MY REVIEW THE BOY AT THE DOOR by Alex Dahl is a haunting, uncomfortable, and riveting story of family, lies, and how far one would go to keep their life together. Cecilia Wilborg has a perfect husband, a perfect career, and perfect daughters. Her life is simple, easy, and everything that one could wish for. Or is it? For beneath the facade that Cecilia puts on for the world lies a deeply troubled and anxious soul who will do whatever it takes to hold her world together. And when she is asked to drop a little boy home from swimming when his parents don't show up, it just might pull her perfect life down around her ears. Compelling, disturbing, and harrowing to read at times THE BOY AT THE DOOR by Alex Dahl does not shy away from the difficult topics of abuse and drugs and I was immediately caught up in the drama. Most of the characters are distinctly unlikeable throughout yet this only makes the story more realistic and I couldn't put this debut novel down until the very end. I don't want to say too much about the plot because I don't want to give any of the twists away but this story will leave you reeling. THE BOY AT THE DOOR by Alex Dahl is a wonderfully crafted, richly detailed, psychological thriller and I cannot wait to see what Alex Dahl comes up with next.
