ABOUT THIS BOOK When violinist Anna Sun accidentally achieves career success with a viral YouTube video, she finds herself incapacitated and burned out from her attempts to replicate that moment. And when her longtime boyfriend announces he wants an open relationship before making a final commitment, a hurt and angry Anna decides that if he wants an open relationship, then she does, too. Translation: She's going to embark on a string of one-night stands. The more unacceptable the men, the better. That's where tattooed, motorcycle-riding Quan Diep comes in. Their first attempt at a one-night stand fails, as does their second, and their third, because being with Quan is more than sex - he accepts Anna on an unconditional level that she has just started to understand herself. However, when tragedy strikes Anna's family she takes on a role that she is ill-suited for, until the burden of expectations threatens to destroy her. Anna and Quan have to fight for their chance at love, but to do that, they also have to fight for themselves. MY REVIEW A heart-warming and at times, heart-wrenching, story of love, loss, and understanding yourself, THE HEART PRINCIPLE by Helen Hoang is the third book in this series and the one that packed the biggest emotional punch. Anna Sun has lost her love for music and is trapped in a repetitive circle that seeks perfection in a way that will be forever unattainable. But that doesn't stop her from trying or from hiding all of her turmoil behind a smile for everyone around her. Both physically and emotionally exhausted from it all, everything reaches a tipping point when her boyfriend declares that he wants an open relationship before he will settle down with her. Hurt and confused, Anna decides that two can play at that game and matches online with Quan, but with him, she gets so much more than she bargained for, and for once it seems like someone sees her for her. Quan, once a lothario, has struggled when it comes to dating ever since his health scare but decides that Anna seems like the perfect candidate for a one-night stand. But when their one night doesn't exactly go to plan, a second, third, and fourth night become more appealing anyway. Because Anna is unlike anyone he has ever dated and he loves her as he has never loved anyone before. But when Anna's family does not approve, her ex starts sniffing around her again, and a tragedy happens to someone she holds dear, will Anna do what she has always done and please everyone around her by being who they want her to be? Or will she fight to finally be seen? Emotionally compelling in a way that no other romance has ever been for me, THE HEART PRINCIPLE by Helen Hoang is a raw and honest look at the power of familial expectations and the strength it takes to be yourself when everyone you love cannot see you. Quan and Anna are wonderful characters full of depth and substance, and I wanted Anna to concentrate on herself and find peace while realising that Quan truly loves her no matter what. This book made me laugh, made me smile, and definitely made me cry, and it has cemented my fan status for this exceptional author. An excellent story on every level, THE HEART PRINCIPLE is a must-read! AUTHOR BIO Helen Hoang read her first romance novel in high-school and has been addicted ever since.
