ABOUT THE BOOK Whitechapel, 1888: London is bowed under Jack the Ripper's reign of terror. London 2015: actress Julianne Bell is abducted in a case similar to the terrible Tower Hamlets murders of some 10 years earlier, and harking back to the Ripper killings of a century before. Falkenberg, Sweden, 2015: a woman's body is found mutilated in a forest, her wounds identical to those of the Tower Hamlets victims. With the man arrested for the Tower Hamlets crimes already locked up, do the new killings mean he has a dangerous accomplice, or is a copy-cat serial killer on the loose? Profiler Emily Roy and true-crime writer Alexis Castells again find themselves drawn into an intriguing case, with personal links that turn their world upside down. MY REVIEW Bloody hell. Just, bloody hell. I'm not sure if I can properly describe how dark and twisted and unbelievably excellent KEEPER by Johana Gustawsson is but I will try my hardest to do it justice. When a famous actress disappears in front of her home in London it isn't long before top criminal profiler, Emily Roy is called to the scene. But what she discovers soon reopens the horrific Tower Hamlet murders that echo with similarities to Jack the Ripper. While at the same time in Sweden, a crack team are trying to find a killer that mutilates its victims and it appears that it has to be linked to what is happening in the UK, but how? And as more investigators find themselves drawn into the case they have no idea just how dark and disturbing this case really is ... This book is dark, uncomfortable, disturbing, and completely compelling in a 'God I don't want to look but I have to look, but I don't want to look' kind of way which shows the true brilliance of this author. I enjoyed the throwback and links to Whitechapel and feel it really added another layer to the story but my favourite parts of the book were the modern investigations. The characters are complex and intriguing and this story certainly left me wanting more from this series. And that ending - MIND BLOWN!!!!!!!!! If you want a book that will suck you in and take over your mind then KEEPER by Johana Gustawsson is the crime thriller for you - a superb story that will haunt you for days after you turn the last page.
