ABOUT THIS BOOK When Liv, Ellen, and Håkon, along with their partners and children, arrive in Rome to celebrate their father’s 70th birthday, a quiet earthquake occurs: their parents have decided to divorce. Shocked and disbelieving, the siblings try to come to terms with their parents’ decision as it echoes through the homes they have built for themselves, and forces them to reconstruct the shared narrative of their childhood and family history. A bittersweet novel of regret, relationships, and rare psychological insights, A Modern Family encourages us to look at the people closest to us a little more carefully, and ultimately reveals that it’s never too late for change. MY REVIEW A MODERN FAMILY by Helga Flatland is an in-depth look into the complex relationships that exist within a family and what happens to those relationships and emotions when the status quo changes. Liv, her husband and their two kids, her sister Ellen and her partner, and their brother have all arrived in Italy to celebrate their father's 70th birthday. All grown-up, it isn't long before the siblings fall back into their childish roles and as they each try to deal with their own problems and life changes, they all struggle to navigate their family dynamics at times. When their parents, the foundation of their family, announce that they are getting a divorce, it rocks each of their children and their grandchildren in different ways as they must now learn to figure out this new change in their life. Engaging and thought-provoking, A MODERN FAMILY by Helga Flatland is a very well-written story that will gently lure you in and keep you interested to the very end, and I'm sure there is something for everyone to relate to among these pages. Definitely, a must-read for fans of family dramas and I highly recommend A MODERN FAMILY by Helga Flatland. AUTHOR BIO Helga Flatland is already one of Norway's most awarded and widely read authors.
