ABOUT THIS BOOK Here are two things I know about my mother: 1. She had dark hair, like mine. 2. She wasn’t very happy at the end. Anna has always believed that her mother, Debbie, died 30 years ago on the night she disappeared. But when her father gets a strange note, she realises that she’s never been told the full story of what happened that night on the cliff. Confused and upset, Anna turns to her husband Jack – but when she finds a love letter from another woman in his wallet, she realises there’s no-one left to help her, least of all her family. And then a body is found… MY REVIEW 11 MISSED CALLS by Elisabeth Carpenter is an evenly paced tale of loss, heartbreak, and family secrets that hooked my interest from the beginning. Anna has always searched for her missing mother in faces among the crowd, an act that has gotten her in trouble a few times, but married now with her own little girl, Anna is still struggling with the disappearance of her mother all those years ago when she was just a baby. The rest of her family seem happy to move on and forget about Debbie but Anna cannot let it go. She has to know what happened. So when her stepmother, Debbie's old friend, receives an email that appears to be from her mother, Anna jumps into investigation mode determined to uncover the truth. But the more Anna digs the more she realises that she never really heard the full chain of events leading up to Debbie's disappearance and she begins to fear what she might uncover. And when she finds a love letter in her husband's wallet, Anna realises that her mother may not be the only person she lost along the way ... I enjoyed the pace and plot of this novel and getting to know Anna and her family as each layer of their backgrounds unfolded, was intriguing. There were plenty of twists, misunderstandings, and dead ends along the way to keep you gripped. The story moves from Anna in the present day to Debbie in the month leading up to her disappearance and while both time frames were good, I preferred reading Anna's point of view more. The ending felt a little too rushed for me but overall, I found 11 MISSED CALLS by Elisabeth Carpenter to be a solid, easy read.
