ABOUT THIS BOOK One charming bookshop, two unlikely friends, and a summer in Paris that will change their lives forever… Grace can’t believe it when her husband of twenty-five years announces he doesn’t want to join her on their anniversary trip to Paris – instead, he wants a divorce. Reeling from the shock, Grace makes the bold decision to go on this holiday of a lifetime alone. Audrey leaves behind heartache of her own when she arrives in Paris. A job in a bookshop is her ticket to freedom, but with no knowledge of the French language, her summer adventure seems doomed to fail. Until she meets Grace, and everything changes… Living in neighbouring apartments above the bookshop, Grace and Audrey form an unlikely friendship. They came to Paris to find themselves, but finding each other might be the best thing that's ever happened to them. MY REVIEW ONE SUMMER IN PARIS by Sarah Morgan is a breathtakingly wonderful story about finding yourself and the meaning of true friendship, and it is easily my favourite book by this author so far. Grace knows what it is like to grow up in chaos so as an adult, happily married to her best friend David, and her daughter Sophie about to go travelling and move to University, Grace has done everything to give those she loves a perfect, ordered, loving life. And on her twenty-fifth wedding anniversary, she has the perfect surprise for her husband - a month-long trip to Paris so they can spend some quality time together and get used to the idea of being empty-nesters. But David has a surprise for Grace too. He has been having an affair with a younger woman and he wants a divorce. Devastated, Grace doesn't know how she will ever get over this but on the advice of her unique and wonderful grandmother, Mimi, she decides to go to Paris alone and try to figure out her future. What Grace doesn't know is that there is a young girl also alone in Paris who is trying to forge a new life for herself while always worrying about the problems that she has left behind in London. As their paths converge, an unexpected friendship is forged which will help them both heal from their wounds and become stronger than ever. And together they may just learn to trust again. Engaging from the very beginning, I love the way that each chapter is told from a specific character's point of view. Both Grace and Audrey are simply amazing characters, full of strength and courage to find happiness and deal with their similar pasts. The setting is breathtaking and I found myself transported to the stunning French capital effortlessly every time I turned the page. There are drama, lies, new beginnings, and many learning curves for both of these fabulous women, and sensitive topics such as alcoholism are excellently portrayed. And as for Mimi and her mysterious past in France, I absolutely loved how it all came together in the end! Compelling, heartwarming, and utterly addictive, ONE SUMMER IN PARIS by Sarah Morgan is one of the best books that I have read this year and is everything you want in a great novel.
