ABOUT THE BOOK A humorous read about an incredible dog and how he found his true, yet unexpected calling. A dog. A friendship. A purpose. Proven to warm your heart, “Joyful Trouble” is a fast-paced, engaging and funny story. Patricia Furstenberg paints a charming portrait of the bond between a small girl and boy and their much-loved Grandad. This book takes readers on an unbelievable journey, tackling universal themes and voicing animal rights and the importance of fighting for what is right. When a Great Dane arrives in a Navy base nobody expects him to win everybody’s hearts, although breaking some rules along the way. But things soon turn sour as somebody threatens to put him to sleep. Who will stand up for this four-legged gentle giant? A charming celebration of innocence. MY REVIEW JOYFUL TROUBLE by Patricia Furstenberg is a beautiful tale that will make you smile and make you sad at different moments throughout but most of all it will make you feel, and while it is certainly great for children, it is just as perfect for adults too. Told from the point of view of Grandfather, we hear the tale of a very special great dane called Joyful Trouble as Grandad tells it to his two grandchildren. From the moment this amazing dog arrives at the Navy base, he is getting himself into mischief, some of it hilarious, and he soon becomes so important to so many people with his wonderful ways. But he is not always helpful and somebody wants to be rid of him for good ... The action is quirky, delightful, and thoroughly enjoyable, and my children loved this story from start to finish. It raises important topics in a gentle and childlike way which is a wonderful way to start conversations with younger children who are beginning to learn about the real world and how life isn't always simple. This book also made my kids desperate for a dog so thanks for that Patricia Furstenberg 😉 JOYFUL TROUBLE by Patricia Furstenberg is a wonderful children's book with characters and action that will keep a child hooked from the very beginning, and a charming read for adults too. Definitely a must-read for 2018. Author Bio: Patricia Furstenberg is the author of Amazon Bestseller Joyful Trouble. She writes children stories about real and imaginary dogs and about animals in general. Patricia believes each creature has a story and a voice, if only we stop to listen. Patricia came to writing though reading, her passion for books being something she inherited from her parents. “When I write, I write,” she usually says. When she’s not writing she likes to read, listen to music, dance and bake. One of the characters portrayed in her children stories is Pete, the yellow toy elephant. Not many know, but Pete exists and lives in Pat's home. This Romanian born writer is living happily with her husband, children and dogs in sunny South Africa. ABOUT THE BOOK A gripping and brilliantly realized debut epic adventure set in eighth-century Denmark. This is the beginning of an ambitious new series in the vein of George R.R. Martin's A Game of Thrones. Hakan, son of Haldan, chosen son of the Lord of the Northern Jutes, swears loyalty to his father in fire, in iron, and in blood. But there are always shadows that roam. When a terrible tragedy befalls Hakan's household he is forced to leave his world behind. He must seek to pledge his sword to a new king. Nameless and alone, he embarks on a journey to escape the bonds of his past and fulfil his destiny as a great warrior. Whispers of sinister forces in the north pull Hakan onwards to a kingdom plagued by mysterious and gruesome deaths. But does he have the strength to do battle with such dark foes? Or is death the only sane thing to seek in this world of blood and broken oaths? MY REVIEW Enthralling, fantastical, and dangerous, A MIGHTY DAWN by Theodore Brun is an excellent start to what is sure to be an addictive historical fantasy series. Hakan, son of the Lord of the Northern Jutes has always had to try harder to prove himself to his people and fighting has become second nature to him. But bloodied and battle-ready he will be, both in heart and body. But when things go wrong, he has to escape who he was and the future he thought he would have, so Hakan travels to new lands to pledge his skill and sword to someone else but you cannot escape your destiny or the darkness that lives in this world ... With many compelling characters, lust, death, and magic in the air, A MIGHTY DAWN by Theodore Brun plays like a movie in front of your eyes as you become completely immersed in this new world. I was never bored throughout this story and when I turned the last page I immediately wanted to jump into the next instalment. I can see why there have already been comparisons to A Game of Thrones as Brun effortlessly created a new world with many characters and layers, but it is unique enough to stand out fresh among this genre with that extra spark that makes it special. A MIGHTY DAWN by Theodore Brun is a must-read for anyone who wants to lose themselves among a richly crafted story that will leave you wanting more. Author Bio: Theo is an established author and public speaker. At Cambridge, he studied Dark Age archaeology (amongst other things), graduating with a BA in Archaeology and Anthropology and an MPhil in History. After university he trained as a solicitor, qualifying into the area of arbitration law where he worked for several years, including for two Magic Circle firms. His career took him first to London, then to Moscow, Paris and finally Hong Kong. However, in 2010, disenchanted with the law and with the germ of an idea for a series of novels already in his head, he quit his job in Hong Kong, jumped on a bicycle and pedalled 10,685 miles across Asia and Europe to his home in Norfolk. At this point he sat down in a spider-infested cottage to write the first volume in his epic historical fiction series, the Wanderer Chronicles. Four years later, A Mighty Dawn was published by Corvus Atlantic. Its sequel, A Sacred Storm, is due for release in July 2018. Theo is a third generation Viking immigrant, his Danish grandfather having settled in England in 1932. One could say Viking stories are in his blood. They did also form a small part of his degree, but the truth is they only came alive for him through the discovery of Wagner's Ring Cycle when he was studying for his law exams. Through this unlikely portal, Theo discovered the hoard of stories from the old Scandinavian and Germanic worlds which underlie many of the works of authors like Tolkein, CS Lewis, George RR Martin, Neil Gaiman, Giles Kristian and Bernard Cornwell to name a few. It was this material that provided the inspiration for the first two novels in his Wanderer Chronicles series. Besides writing, Theo is also an acclaimed speaker and has presented to a wide variety of audiences about his epic bike journey and about creative writing, as well as inspiring young people to dream big and pursue their passions. Theo is married to Natasha. They live in London together with Natasha's daughter, Ella, their baby girl, Talitha, and an unruly dog named Wilmo. Book length - 602 pages Publisher - Self-Published Amazon UK - www.amazon.co.uk Amazon US - www.amazon.com I want to thank Liz Mayer for providing me with a copy of this book for review. ABOUT THE BOOK Trust me, I'm a lawyer. That thread which holds the fabric of society together is broken here in so many ways. McLane witnesses a suicide. The Faculty of Advocates and the University of Edinburgh are both hacked. Is there a connection? Who can he trust to help him discover the culprit? MY REVIEW THE TRUST by John Mayer is a deeply layered legal and political drama that will get under your skin and make you really think about the political system. This is the fourth book in the series and I do advise that you begin with book one, for even though this story can be read as a standalone, there are elements that could be confusing if you are not aware of the back story. The character of Brogan McLane is very evocative and compelling and when he witnesses a suicide he cannot simply walk away and forget. When the Faculty and the University are hacked McLane decides to do some digging, but who can he truly trust? And what do the two new Members of Faculty have to do with all of this? Naturally, there are a lot of technical terms and traditions described throughout but I rather enjoyed this element of the story as it gave me an insight into a world I know nothing about. With intriguing characters, danger, and betrayal, THE TRUST by John Mayer is a solid story. Author Bio: John Mayer (b. 1952) was born in Glasgow, Scotland at a time of post-WW2 austerity. But in 1963 when he heard The Beatles on Radio Caroline, his life path was set. Aged 14 he walked out of school because, in his opinion, he wasn't being well taught. Every day for the next year, in all weathers, he cycled 9 miles to and 9 miles from the Mitchell Library in central Glasgow where he devoured books of all kinds. While still an apprentice engineer he was soon teaching men two and three times his age. But in the 1970s he 'dived off a cliff' and set out to become a Record Producer. He built his own record company trading in 14 countries. After a court battle with global giants, he went to the University of Edinburgh and became an Advocate in the Supreme Courts of Scotland. He acted for the downtrodden and desperate as well as Greenpeace International. His specialism was in fighting international child abduction. As an author, John has written non-fiction, legal texts and articles; broadcasting to tens of millions of people on US and UK radio, TV and print media. The Trial is the first novel in his Parliament House Books series. Set in Edinburgh, it's an homage to Franz Kafka's book of the same title. The Trial sees crusading Scottish Advocate, Brogan McLane, fight injustice casually delivered by Low Life in High Places in the Old Town.
