ABOUT THIS BOOK

In 1926, Agatha Christie disappeared for 11 days. Only I know the truth of her disappearance.
I’m no Hercule Poirot.
I’m her husband’s mistress.

Agatha Christie’s world is one of glamorous society parties, country house weekends, and growing literary fame.

Nan O’Dea’s world is something very different. Her attempts to escape a tough London upbringing during the Great War led to a life in Ireland marred by a hidden tragedy.

After fighting her way back to England, she’s set her sights on Agatha. Because Agatha Christie has something Nan wants. And it’s not just her husband.

Despite their differences, the two women will become the most unlikely of allies. And during the mysterious eleven days that Agatha goes missing, they will unravel a dark secret that only Nan holds the key to . . .

MY REVIEW

During the pandemic, I rediscovered my love of all things Agatha Christie so when THE CHRISTIE AFFAIR by Nina de Gramont arrived in my letterbox, I couldn't wait to sit down and start reading. The only problem I encountered was that I didn't want to put the book down!!!

In 1926, after a shocking conversation with her husband where he demands a divorce because he wants to marry his mistress, Agatha Christie drives away from her home and disappears without a trace for eleven days. As police begin to search and Agatha's husband becomes concerned, it is the unlikely combination of a war-injured policeman and Nan O'Dea, the mistress, who will begin to unravel this mystery. Where did she disappear to and why? And as some questions get answered, new, darker mysteries will surface and unlikely alliances will form so that the truth can be uncovered.

THE CHRISTIE AFFAIR by Nina de Gramont is superb in every way. The story is told from Nan's point of view and although it is not always reliable, I felt very connected to and cared for this character, which is unusual considering her role in Agatha's life. Nan suffered greatly in her young life and when her heart was bruised and broken in Ireland and again at times in England, we get to see and feel the harshness of that time - from the after effects of the war on soldiers and their families, to the despicable cruelty of the mother and baby homes in Ireland. But through it all, Nan remains strong and determined and you cannot help but admire her courage and spirit.
Agatha is only beginning to become famous and cannot fathom her husband leaving her after dedicating her life to him. But watching her and Nan begin to connect on a different level was inspiring, and Agatha show herself to be another strong and capable woman who is undervalued in many ways.

While this isn't exactly an Agatha Christie novel, the mysteries, secrets, and betrayals involved all live up to what one would expect from Agatha herself, and I cannot wait to see this story transform onto our screens someday soon.

An excellent story in every way!

AUTHOR INFO

Nina de Gramont lives with her husband and daughter in coastal North Carolina, where she teaches Creative Writing at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Her interest in writing about Agatha Christie began in 2015 when she first learned about the famous author's eleven-day disappearance. Christie's refusal to ever speak about this episode particularly intrigued Nina, who loves the fact that someone who unravelled mysteries for a living managed to keep her own intact. The Christie Affair is her fourth novel.

ABOUT THIS BOOK

Welcome to Big Sky Mountain: a home for everyone!

There is never a dull day on Big Sky Mountain! Rain or shine, there is always something that needs doing. Rosa and Grandma Nan are busy building a bigger cabin when a storm strikes, and a host of animals descend for shelter. There is one unexpected visitor: a tiny wolf cub. This little wolf doesn't seem like the scary, giant-fanged forest wolves that Rosa has heard about! Can the cub really be part of their pack? Rosa and Grandma Nan set off into the forest to find out . . .

OUR REVIEW

My youngest and I were very excited when we received Alex Milway's latest children's books as we have loved his previous stories before, and BIG SKY MOUNTAIN THE FOREST WOLVES is no exception.

Just as Rosa and Grandma Nan are starting to build a bigger cabin so Rosa can have more space, a huge storm hits the mountain and everyone must take cover together, including some quirky animals who trust Nan and Rosa. It' s been a long time since wolves were spotted where they live but they soon see a little wolf cub that might need some help. Even though wolves are supposed to be scary and dangerous, this won't stop Nan and Rosa from helping an animal in distress so they set off into the forest to see for themselves.

Aged for kids 5-8, this book is the perfect size with a great blend of text and illustrations to hold their interest. My youngest is obsessed with animals and mixed with an adventure in the woods made this a perfect story for him. The idea of not judging a book by its cover is subtly woven throughout this tale, as is acceptance and caring for each other, which makes this children's book even more special. It's always such a pleasure when your child finishes reading a book and asks if there is another one in the series, so we are looking forward to the next Big Sky Mountain installment already!

ABOUT THIS BOOK

One mistake could cost her everything.

Susannah has two beautiful daughters, a high-flying medical career, a successful husband and an enviable life. Her hair is glossy, her clothes are expensive; she truly has it all.

But when - on the hottest day of the year - her strict morning routine is disrupted, Susannah finds herself running on autopilot. It is hours before she realises she has made a devastating mistake. Her baby, Louise, is still in the backseat of the car and it is too late to save her.

As the press close in around her, Susannah is put on trial for negligence. It is plain to see that this is not a trial, it's a witch hunt. But what will the court say?

MY REVIEW

A gut-wrenching story with a soul-destroying plotline, BREAKING POINT by Edel Coffey is the emotional and thought-provoking read of 2022.

Susannah has the life that many dream of - a successful career, a happy marriage, and two gorgeous children, as well as becoming a household name with her own book and numerous tv appearances. She has it all. But what people don't see is the pressure that having it all puts on someone and so Susannah becomes a perfectionist who has to have every little thing in order to keep their busy lives on track. If a cog breaks then the wheel stops turning and when a minor setback on the hottest day of the year results in Susannah forgetting that her baby is asleep in the back seat of the car, it results in the most tragic and heartbreaking outcome possible.
As shock, guilt, and grief envelop Susannah and her family, it isn't long before the media begin to circle around them - was this a tragic accident, or is Susannah negligent, too caught up in herself and her lifestyle to properly look after her children? As Susannah's past gets picked apart and everyone in the world has an opinion, there is one journalist who recognises a witch hunt when she sees one, and while they may be from completely different worlds there is a haunting connection that ties them together. And as the court decision gets closer, what will their verdict be?

BREAKING POINT by Edel Coffey is the kind of read that gives you that stone-cold fear feeling in the pit of your stomach and even though I knew what the plot was of this book, as a parent, it still really got to me and made me have a visceral reaction. The heartbreak, the anguish, and the guilt that permeates throughout this story will resonate with many readers as we can all recognise in some way the pressure that surrounds parenting and especially mothering in the world we live in today.
The pressure that women face to be all things to all people, without breaking stride or being seen to falter, is excellently handled throughout this book, as is the instant pile-on when anyone is seen to slip even remotely in other people's expectations. In this case, Susannah has to prove that she was not wilfully negligent on the day in question and as she tries to grieve and process her own overwhelming feelings of guilt and utter despair, another woman will also feel the visceral reaction of a past that she has long tried to run from while watching this unfold before her eyes.

BREAKING POINT by Edel Coffey is unputdownable and the kind of story that stays with you long after you turn the final page.

ABOUT THIS BOOK

Is there one last undiscovered, great truth?

A moment zero, a place in time that links all cultures and creeds?

A revelation that will unite us all and change the way we see history forever?

Brilliant but burnt-out barrister Ella Blake accepts an apparently simple brief: investigate the mysterious disappearance of an African American polymath from his rooms at Cambridge University. The Inquiry quickly becomes the greatest challenge of her life – solving the mystery of Genesis.

Facing danger at every turn, can Ella find the answers to the riddles and clues left by the missing genius?

Reunited with her estranged daughter, the Inquiry sends them on a quest across the world and through ancient texts.

What is the secret that binds us all?

Who is behind the dark forces that will stop at nothing to prevent the world from knowing the truth?

MY REVIEW

If I had to describe THE GENESIS INQUIRY by Olly Jarvis in one word, it would have to be addictive - addictive characters, addictive plot, addictive setting!

When polymath, Matthew, goes missing from Cambridge University, the college appoints barrister Ella Blake to investigate what happened. Matthew was working on something that could change the world and answer all of its mysteries but then he simply vanished into thin air.

While Ella has certainly struggled and become something of a recluse after going through a tough time in her life, she is determined to do everything she can to find Matthew, not just for the thrill of solving the puzzle but for Matthew's brother too.
But what Matthew was working on was dangerous and others are searching for his research, and they will do whatever it takes to get their hands on it, even murder.

As Ella races across the world, with the help of her daughter and some unlikely friends, can she uncover what happened to Matthew before it is too late?

A compelling plotline with a cast of characters that kept me hooked from beginning to end, THE GENESIS INQUIRY by Olly Jarvis is part legal drama, part crime/suspense novel and I loved it! Ella is such a talented and intelligent character and isn't positioned as a perfect paragon, but a flawed and emotional individual which makes her even more likeable. I loved the mystery element of this story and while it is expertly detailed and alluring, it never steps over that line of too complicated or too detailed that it would be off-putting. It is the kind of book that makes you want more and it would be perfect for the screen in some shape or form.

THE GENESIS INQUIRY by Olly Jarvis is an excellent novel and is a must-read for suspense/legal drama/mystery/crime fiction readers everywhere.

ABOUT THIS BOOK

Interior Design School? Check.
Cute house to fix up? Check.
Sexy nemesis neighbour? Check. Unfortunately.

Grace Travis has it all figured out. She'll finish her degree, get her dream job and, most importantly, she'll find a place where she can truly belong, something she never had growing up. So when the opportunity to fix up and live in a little house on the beach presents itself, Grace can finally see her plan coming together...until a problem named Noah moves in next door.

Real estate developer Noah Jansen knows when he's found something special. Somewhere he could even call home. Except his plan involves taking over the house next door - Grace's new home.

Everyone knows you should love your neighbour, but that's easier said than done.

And Grace and Noah are about to find out just how thin the line is between love and hate...

MY REVIEW

Witty, heartwarming, and fun, HOW TO LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOUR by Sophie Sullivan is a wonderful contemporary romance that is sure to brighten your day.

Grace Travis knows all about hard work so when she gets the chance to have a home all of her own, she is determined to put in a lot of hard work to design her little corner of the world. Who cares that it will take a long time or that she will have to do most of the work herself - that's part of the fun, right? But when her sexy neighbour wants to buy her home, sparks will fly and not always the good kind!
Determined to start afresh, property developer Noah knows when he has found something special and he needs the house next door to make his dream reality. But his next-door neighbour doesn't seem to understand. As they get thrown together time and again, the tension between them is undeniable but as it begins to bubble up they will soon learn that sometimes love and hate are more closely connected than you could ever imagine.
Can they find a way for both of them to get what they want? Or will the temperature between them burn them both beyond redemption?

HOW TO LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOUR by Sophie Sullivan is a clever take on falling in love with the girl/guy-next-door idea and I enjoyed every moment of it. Grace wants to belong and finally has somewhere that is hers, somewhere she can belong, and it was great seeing such a strong and independent character in Grace. Noah also wants a fresh start, a chance to build his own life and his own success, so when he sees something he wants he is relentless. There are moments of laughter, sizzling chemistry, and plenty of ups and downs for them both, but I was more than happy to be along for the ride.

HOW TO LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOUR by Sophie Sullivan is an enjoyable story from beginning to end with likeable characters and plenty of laughs along the way to keep you hooked. I look forward to reading more from Sophie.

ABOUT THIS BOOK

Andra Vandersan is an expert code breaker, as fiercely independent and beautiful as she is brilliant. Working in Hong Kong at the highest levels of deciphering. When her next-door neighbor is brutally murdered in a way that suggests the work of the Chinese triads, two things become clear: Andra was the intended target of the hit, and the assassin is going to return.

Max True is a world-class linguist, a colleague of Andra's who once helped her break a code that would destroy a terrorist cell. When he shows up at Andra's door with a mysterious message, they realize they may have stumbled on a long-lost women's language that holds the secret to incredible power—and one that the most vicious men in Hong Kong will stop at nothing to get their hands on.

As Andra and Max work to solve the puzzle of the language, they find themselves in a desperate race against time to escape the mysterious forces who all want the secret of the message—even as they surrender to the forces of an undeniable passion that brings them inexorably and irrevocably together.

MY REVIEW

Jam-packed with action, secrets, and sizzling chemistry, LEGACY OF FEAR by Ryshia Kennie is sure to please fans of romantic suspense everywhere.

Max True has to figure out a complicated puzzle that arrived on his doorstep in the form of a doll and a note in an ancient language that was used only by women. Knowing that he needs help he turns to an expert code breaker, Andra, but when he arrives on her doorstep it is to discover that Andra's next-door-neighbour has been brutally murdered. Shook up, they both decide to throw themselves into figuring out the secret of the language but it isn't long before they find themselves in serious danger - from those that want them dead as well as their own hearts as passion flares to life between them. Can they stay alive long enough to unlock the secret? Or will evil reign supreme just as they have found the truth and each other?

A little jumpy and confusing at the start, it wasn't long before I became immersed in Max and Andra's story and became swept along on their adventure. Andra is smart and decisive and I enjoyed getting to know her, while Max is a great character that I warmed to more as the story unfolded. I loved the idea of an ancient, female language that held a secret power, and there was plenty of action and clues to warrant putting your detective hat on alongside the characters.

LEGACY OF FEAR by Ryshia Kennie is an enjoyable romance and I look forward to reading more from this author.

AUTHOR INFO

The winner of Regina’s Writing Award in 2011, Ryshia Kennie’s novels have taken her characters from the depression era prairies in her first book “From the Dust” to a across the globe and back again. There’s never a lack of places to set a story as the too long prairie winters occasionally find her with travel journal in hand seeking adventure on foreign shores. While facing off a Monitor Lizard before breakfast or running through the Kasbah chased by an enraged Water Carrier aren’t normal travel experiences and might never find a place in one of her stories, they do make great travel stories. When not collecting odd memories from around the world, she’s writing mainly romantic suspense and women’s fiction.

ABOUT THIS BOOK

As Christmas approaches Annie must help Tate as he prepares to throw a traditional family Christmas. But when it benefits them both to pretend to be each other's long-lost love and appease his interfering family can real love be far behind?

MY REVIEW

A heartwarming and beautiful story of new beginnings, family, and love, SLEIGH BELLS RING by RaeAnne Thayne is a must-read this festive season.

Annie McCade has a lot on her plate what with caring for her niece and nephew for the next month now that her heartbroken brother has landed himself in jail. Having moved back to help her brother after the tragic death of his wife, Annie has watched her brother spiral but she is determined to be there for her family no matter what. But what she didn't expect or need is the ranch owner and their extended family to arrive suddenly for Christmas and with only a few days and the help of one of the family, Tate Sheridan, to get organised, this Christmas is going to be hectic. And when they both need a significant other, what harm could it do to pretend to be in love for Christmas? But will their feelings become more real than either of them are prepared for?

A stunning setting, loveable characters who feel real and relatable, and with sensitive topics like grief dealt with eloquently, SLEIGH BELLS RING by RaeAnne Thayne is a lovely story from beginning to end. Annie and Tate both have to learn to deal with their own baggage but as they became reacquainted, I wanted them to take a chance at happiness for themselves.
