ABOUT THIS BOOK The rules are simple. Choose the most significant moments from your relationship - one for each hour in the day. You'd probably pick when you first met, right? And the instant you knew for sure it was love? Maybe even the time you watched the sunrise after your first night together? But what about the car journey on the holiday where everything started to go wrong? Or your first proper fight? Or that time you lied about where you'd been? It's a once in a lifetime chance to learn the truth. But if you had to be completely honest with the one you love, would you still play? For Esme and Tom, the game is about to begin. And once they start, there's no going back . . . MY REVIEW OUR LIFE IN A DAY by Jamie Fewery is a beautiful and heartbreaking story about a relationship in all of its wonder and despair, and this story left me with tears running down my face. Esme and Tom have been together for ten years and on their anniversary Esme comes up with a game where they write down their most important memories of their relationship for every hour in one day - 24 memories that sum them up. But like all games sometimes things do not always go the way you planned and as we learn more and more about Esme and Tom, we will ask the question: is love always enough? Compelling, emotional, and downright unputdownable, OUR LIFE IN A DAY by Jamie Fewery shows us Esme and Tom's relationship in all of its grit and glory through a collection of memories that really cut to the core of human relationships - the pure joy of love as well as the pain. Subjects such as depression, alcoholism, and grief are expertly and sensitively handled and the characters of Esme and Tom really feel more like friends by the end, even when you disagree with some of their actions. The author has an excellent way with words and it didn't take long for me to become deeply invested in his characters and their lives. OUR LIFE IN A DAY by Jamie Fewery is a stunning story about life in all of its complicated and messy glory and is a must-read for fiction fans around the globe. AUTHOR BIO Jamie Fewery is an author, columnist and copywriter. ABOUT THIS BOOK BEFORE YOU READ THIS BOOK I WANT YOU TO KNOW THREE THINGS: 1. The police are looking to charge me with murder. 2. No one knows who I am. Or how I did it. 3. If you think you've found me. I'm coming for you next. After you've read this book, you'll know: the truth is far more twisted... MY REVIEW Never have I read a book where the title suited a story as well as TWISTED by Steve Cavanagh. Dark, gripping, and completely unpredictable, this is a thriller with a difference and I could not put it down. I am really struggling to write the review for this one because I don't want to give any spoilers so it is next to impossible to give my usual rundown of the plot. But it is safe to say that this book hit all the right marks for me when it came to setting and character development. The plot is unlike anything that I have read before and to say I was blindsided numerous times is an understatement. When I turned the last page I honestly sat staring at my kindle for a while, simply trying to comprehend what the hell had just happened and how it had happened. And then I quickly went online to order Steve Cavanagh's other books because this writer is a genius. TWISTED is everything you could want in a crime fiction/thriller novel with plenty of gritty secrets and lies to sink your teeth into as you try to piece the truth together (I didn't have it sussed even though I thought I did!). Definitely a must-read for readers of this genre and hopefully one that will play out on our tv screens sometime soon! AUTHOR BIO Steve Cavanagh is a critically acclaimed, award-winning author of the Eddie Flynn series and lawyer. His third novel, The Liar, won the CWA Gold Dagger for Crime Novel of the year 2018. He is also one half of the Two Crime Writers and a Microphone podcast. His latest novel, Thirteen, is out now. His first standalone book, Twisted, is released in the UK in April 2019. ABOUT THIS BOOK What’s the one thing the $60-billion-dollar diet industry doesn’t want you to know? Diets don’t work. Our bodies are hardwired against them. But instead of wondering what’s wrong with dieting, we wonder what’s wrong with us. Diet programs earn billions because they make people believe they’re food addicts, lazy and weak, and that losing weight is the key to the life they truly want. The F*ck It Diet is the anti-diet, designed for anyone who feels guilt or pain over food, weight, and their bodies. Caroline Dooner calls BS on the diet industry as she reveals the truth about weight bias, tackles the flawed approach inherent in dieting, and guides readers through the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects of the journey from miserable food obsession to true food ease. Dooner encourages us to eat the things our bodies want, and to be happy being healthy at whatever weight that might be. The F*ck It Diet is the only diet that works because it tackles two things at once: the biological reality that dieting triggers the body’s famine response, and the mental, emotional, and cultural reasons that we become obsessed with food. By taking diets off the cultural pedestal, Dooner contends, we can reclaim mealtimes as pleasure and nourishment instead of a misguided test of willpower. MY REVIEW THE FUCK IT DIET by Caroline Dooner is for everyone who has ever yo-yo dieted or thinks about food a lot, and is honestly a book that could change your life. Now when this book came in the post I was very excited because I have always been a yo-yo dieter since I was a teenager right up to last month where I jumped on the bandwagon of yet another diet in the hopes that this would be the one that would see me return to my pre-kids shape (which is ironic because I thought I was fat then too!). Like so many people, women especially, I have always had a tortured relationship with food, labelling it good and bad, feeling guilty when I inevitably fell off the plan and stuffed my face, gaining back all of the weight that I had lost and then some. So when THE FUCK IT DIET arrived I really hoped that it would help but secretly doubted that it could, after all, I'm just a failure at dieting. But I was wrong. This book will open your eyes to the damage that you are doing to your body by constantly dieting and is laid out through different stages that are easy to read. It will open your eyes to the science behind how your body works without being too technical and you will realise why your body reacts the way it does to diets and their inevitable failure. Because they will fail. We all know that if we are honest. There were so many parts of this book where I felt like I could have written it myself and the author is superb at taking your fears and blowing them wide open and making you feel so much better at the end of it because she has been through it too. THE FUCK IT DIET by Caroline Dooner opened my eyes to the billion-dollar diet industry that could not care less about you, to the truth about BMI and words like obesity which blew my mind. Food should just be food with no other words attached and eating should not be some tortuous planning project that makes you anxious. I'm a short, Irish girl who will find my own perfect weight and whatever that may be that is fine because weight does not mean the same as health, and I'm healthy (as far as I know 😉). I no longer have to worry if I should have that bread roll or eat that ice-cream while I'm out with the kids. If I'm hungry for something I'll eat it and when I'm full that's fine too. THE FUCK IT DIET by Caroline Dooner isn't a quick fix book but an eye-opener and helpful companion as you try to start a new relationship with food and your body and I know it is a book that has changed my mindset for the better but also one that I will have to dip into for however long I need it. AUTHOR BIO Caroline Dooner is the creator of The Fuck It Diet, which helps chronic, lifelong dieters finally have an easy relationship with food. She is a writer, storyteller, performer and yoga teacher (who mostly just teaches resting). Entertaining and brutally honest, Dooner has been where her readers and clients are now. She suffered through over a decade of obsessive, miserable dieting and bingeing. She tried every fad diet, every version of intuitive eating, but remained scared of food, her appetite, and her weight. It was her own deep misery and dysfunction that made her investigate, research, and create another way. ABOUT THIS BOOK Tonight is the night for secrets… Pregnant Victoria Valbon was brutally murdered in an alley three weeks ago – and her killer hasn’t been caught. Tonight is Stella McKeever’s final radio show. The theme is secrets. You tell her yours, and she’ll share some of hers. Stella might tell you about Tom, a boyfriend who likes to play games, about the mother who abandoned her, now back after twelve years. She might tell you about the perfume bottle with the star-shaped stopper, or about her father … What Stella really wants to know is more about the mysterious man calling the station … who says he knows who killed Victoria, and has proof. Tonight is the night for secrets, and Stella wants to know everything… MY REVIEW CALL ME STAR GIRL by Louise Beech is this author's first foray into the thriller genre and I can safely say that it will never be the same again (in a good way!!). It is the final night of Stella McKeever's radio show and she is determined to go out with a bang and what better theme to get the blood thumping than secrets? Secrets have a power like no other - the power to make you smile, cry, or tremble with fear - and as a particular caller claims he knows a very dark secret, the identity of a killer no less, Stella wants to know it all. Or does she? Louise Beech's writing has always had the power to entrance me and CALL ME STAR GIRL is no different. The pace, the use of past and present to portray the narrative, and the intense isolation of the character in the setting of the radio booth at night, all combined to make my pulse speed up and keep my eyes glued to the page. The character of Stella is superbly executed and as I learned more about her and her past, I felt what she felt and couldn't put this book down until I knew what the heck was going on and how Stella was connected. CALL ME STAR GIRL by Louise Beech is an exceptional story written by an exceptional author, and I cannot wait for Louise's next book. No, really, when will it be?!?! AUTHOR BIO Louise Beech knew from being small that she wanted to write. She was a columnist for the Hull Daily Mail for ten years, and part of the Mums' Army on BBC Radio Humberside for three. Her short fiction has won the Glass Woman Prize, the Eric Hoffer Award for Prose, and the Aesthetica Creative Works competition, as well as shortlisting for the Bridport Prize twice and being published in a variety of UK magazines. Her debut novel was a Guardian Readers' Pick for 2015 and Maria in the Moon was a Must-Read in Prima, Red and the Sunday Express. Louise lives with her husband and children on the outskirts of Hull – the UK’s 2017 City of Culture – and loves her job as a Front of House Usher at Hull Truck Theatre, where her first play was performed in 2012. ABOUT THIS BOOK A disturbing family secret An unravelling life A diary that holds the key When a stranger approaches Julia Butler at her mother s funeral and hints at a disturbing family secret, her life is turned upside down. Who is this woman and how does she know so much about Julia's life? Grief-stricken, Julia finds her well-ordered life unravelling and her relationships in turmoil. As the mystery around the stranger deepens, she must not only make peace with those around her, but with the ghosts from her past to find hope for the future. MY REVIEW AFTER THE FUNERAL by Gillian Poucher is a complicated story of secrets, betrayal, and family relationships, and will draw you in effortlessly into its depths. Julia Butler is barely holding it together. Her mother has passed away, her relationship has ended very badly, and her career is always complicated. So when a strange woman approaches her at her mother's funeral claiming to be a relative who had a close relationship with her mother, Julia is confused and a little unsettled. Too much in her life has changed and she doesn't want this stranger around. But as Julia begins to dig into who Linda really is, the past bursts into the present and the truth will shock Julia to the core ... AFTER THE FUNERAL by Gillian Poucher has a tense atmosphere from the very beginning which really adds to the plot and while the characters are not necessarily likeable, they are compelling. There is drama, lies, and harshness from the past which must be confronted in this story and I thoroughly enjoyed discovering the truth as the story progressed. AFTER THE FUNERAL by Gillian Poucher is a well thought out story with plenty to keep you hooked to the very end. AUTHOR BIO Gillian Poucher was born in Bolton. After studying history at undergraduate level, she worked as a solicitor before training as a church minister. She was ordained into the United Reformed Church in 2006 and completed her PhD in Biblical Studies in 2013. Gillian lives in Lincolnshire with her husband and daughter. ABOUT THIS BOOK She’s taking her life back, one step at a time… Grace thought she had it all. Living in the beautiful village of Little Ollington, along with head teacher husband Mark and gorgeous son, Archie, she devoted herself to being the perfect mum and the perfect wife, her little family giving her everything she ever wanted. Until that fateful day when she walked in on Mark kissing his secretary - and her perfect life fell apart. Now she's a single mum to Archie, trying to find her way in life and keep things together for his sake. Saturday nights consist of a Chinese takeaway eaten in front of the TV clad in greying pyjamas, and she can’t remember the last time she had a kiss from anyone aside from her dog, Becks ... Grace’s life needs a shake up – fast. So when gorgeous gardener Vinnie turns up on her doorstep, his twinkling eyes suggesting that he might be interested in more than just her conifers, she might just have found the answer to her prayers. But as Grace falls deeper for Vinnie, ten-year-old Archie fears that his mum finding love means she’ll never reconcile with the dad he loves. So when ex-husband Mark begs her for another chance, telling her he’s changed from the man that broke her heart, Grace finds herself with an impossible dilemma. Should she take back Mark and reunite the family that Archie loves? Or risk it all for a new chance of happiness? MY REVIEW Heartwarming, emotional, captivating, and perfect in every way is the best way to describe AMAZING GRACE by Kim Nash. You never know what the future holds and as Grace dedicates her life to her beautiful son and her beloved dog, she is getting used to the lonely weekends when Archie spends time with his dad, her ex-husband Mark who cheated on her. But she has her work and her friends and that is enough. But when she meets Vinnie, Grace's simple life begins to take a turn for the exciting. This could be just what she has always dreamed of but when Mark comes back into her life looking for a second chance, will Grace make the right decision? I was pretty exhausted and a little grumpy when I picked up AMAZING GRACE by Kim Nash and it was the best decision I could have made as two minutes into reading it, I was sucked into Grace's world and never wanted it to end. Grace is a wonderful character that is very relatable and I felt everything alongside her and desperately wanted her to find the right path for her. The setting, the friendships, the gorgeous new man, all combine to make this book something truly special and I completely fell in love with every part of this story. AMAZING GRACE by Kim Nash is everything you wish for in a good story and I highly recommend it to all fiction readers. I really hope I won't have to wait too long for the next book from this extremely talented author!!! AUTHOR BIO Kim Nash lives in Staffordshire with son Ollie and English Setter Roni, is PR & Social Media Manager for Bookouture and is a book blogger at www.kimthebookworm.co.uk. ABOUT THIS BOOK The town of Little Woodford seems peaceful and picture-postcard beautiful, with its marketplace, ancient church and immaculate allotments. But behind the tranquil facade, troubles are brewing. Olivia Lewthwaite, former town councillor, pillar of the WI and all-round busybody, has been forced by her husband’s gambling debts to sell their house - her pride and joy. She hates the new estate they’ve moved to and knows she needs to humble herself to apply for a job. To make matters worse, a thoroughly disagreeable woman has bought Olivia’s beloved Grange and sets about objecting to everything she can, from the ringing of the church bells, to the market stall selling organic local meat. It isn’t long before the town is in turmoil. MY REVIEW THE BELLS OF LITTLE WOODFORD by Catherine Jones is as charming and wonderful as its cover and the perfect read to cosy up with in your comfiest chair and settle down for a good time. Picturesque, quaint, and everything one would hope for in a village community, Little Woodford has a wonderful array of personalities which work together to make this beautiful slice of the countryside feel like home. While things cannot always be perfect, this is a community that watches out for each other as much as possible and there is always someone with a cup of tea ready for a chat. So when Olivia is forced to downsize her home and her place in the community due to her husband's actions, the village awaits the new arrivals at the Grange. But the newcomers are not exactly what everyone expected and things are about to change in Little Woodford, whether they like it or not! With a great cast of characters that really encapsulate the small town community vibe, THE BELLS OF LITTLE WOODFORD drew me in immediately and I was whisked along effortlessly to the end of this enjoyable story. This is a sequel and while you do not have to read the first book to love this one, you may as well read both books for double the entertainment! There is drama, gossiping, friendship, and the whisper of love, and there was nothing about this book that I didn't enjoy. Definitely a thumbs up for THE BELLS OF LITTLE WOODFORD by Catherine Jones! AUTHOR BIO Catherine Lace studied in different all girls schools from there until she left at eighteen. She joined the army, where she served eight years rose to the rank of Staff Captain. Co-authored with a fellow army wife, she wrote a non-fiction book "Gumboots and Pearls" as Annie Jones. After it, she decided wrote romance novels. She wrote six Army romance novels as Catherine Jones, she said: "I loved being in the army. I love writing about it. I was in the army for eight years and I had a great time. ABOUT THIS BOOK Lady Evelyn Carlisle has barely arrived in London when familial duty calls her away again. Her cousin Gemma is desperate for help with her ailing mother before her imminent wedding, which Evelyn knew nothing about! Aunt Agnes in tow, she journeys to Scotland, expecting to find Malmo Manor in turmoil. To her surprise, her Scottish family has been keeping far more secrets than the troubled state of their matriarch. Adding to the tension in the house a neighbor has opened his home, Elderbrooke Park, as a retreat for artistic veterans of the Great War. This development does not sit well with everyone in the community. Is the suspicion towards the residents a catalyst for murder? A tragedy at Elderbrooke Park's May Day celebration awakens Evelyn's sleuthing instinct, which is strengthened when the story of another unsolved death emerges, connected to her own family. What she uncovers on her quest to expose the truth will change several lives forever, including her own. With the shadow of history looming over her, Evelyn must trust in her instinct and ability to comb through the past to understand the present, before the murderer can stop her and tragedy strikes again. MY REVIEW THE GOLDEN HOUR by Malia Zaidi is an enjoyable historical mystery with plenty of characters to keep you interested. Lady Evelyn Carlisle is just figuring out what she wants from her future when she is called to Scotland by her cousin who desperately needs her help. But when Evelyn arrives nothing seems to be particularly wrong. Yet one should never judge a book by its cover and beneath the facade of this lovely community something dark is lurking, and when a body is discovered Evelyn is determined to bring the culprit to justice. That is if she is not too late to get out of the firing line herself. THE GOLDEN HOUR by Malia Zaidi is the fourth book in this series and while it is possible to read this mystery as a standalone (which is what I did), I do feel to get the most out of these characters, it would be best to read the series in order. I really enjoyed the setting and there are plenty of quirky characters to sink your teeth into and which make the suspect list nice and lengthy which is always a plus, and the pace of this mystery is even and not too energetic which gives it a relaxed edge which I enjoyed. THE GOLDEN HOUR by Malia Zaidi is an entertaining murder mystery and is sure to please historical fiction readers everywhere. AUTHOR BIO I am the author of A Poisonous Journey, A Darker Shore and The Study of Silence the first three novels in the new Lady Evelyn Mystery series. I have been active on Goodreads for a while and am always happy to explore new books to add to my toppling pile:-) I am a painter and enthusiastic traveler and have lived in Germany and the US, though my dream home is a cottage in the Cotswolds...
