ABOUT THE BOOK

You and me, we have history.

We have a child together.

We have kept secrets from each other for far too long.

This summer, in the beautiful hills of the Dordogne, it is time for everything to change.

You, Me, Everything is a heartfelt and unforgettable novel about the lengths we are prepared to go to for those we love.

MY REVIEW

Oh, this book really got to me and it is a story that will not be easily forgotten.

Jess and Adam fell in love but it wasn't enough to keep them together. Ten years later and at the request of her beloved mother who is fading away before their eyes, Jess is heading to France with her amazing ten-year-old son so that Adam can form a real bond with their child. And who wouldn't enjoy a few weeks in a lovely chateau in the beautiful French countryside? But with worries from home crowding in on her and strange feelings stirring between her and Adam, maybe this trip will bring the past and present hurtling together in unexpected ways ...

YOU, ME, EVERYTHING by Catherine Isaac is such a wonderful story and I couldn't put it down. The characters are real, relatable, witty, and loveable, and they brought the story alive in ways that are hard to describe. The setting in France is stunning and you could easily imagine yourself relaxing there beside the pool. I loved Jess's friends and William is such a great little boy that you cannot help but love him. There were moments in this story when I laughed and definitely moments when I cried but the most important thing I took from YOU, ME, EVERYTHING is that life is for living - every second, every minute, every hour is precious and we should all appreciate and embrace that fact.

YOU, ME, EVERYTHING by Catherine Isaac is a marvellous contemporary fiction novel and I highly recommend it!!

ABOUT THE BOOK

What if the end of the world was just the beginning?

15-year-old Alice Davenport was a loner and an outcast before the Storms swept away everything she knew. Saved from the ravaged remains of London by the mysterious and all-powerful Paradigm Industries, her fierce independence and unique skills soon gain her recognition from the highest levels of command. But their plans to rebuild civilisation from scratch mean destroying all remnants of the past – no matter what, or who, gets left behind.

Alice must decide if she will fight for the old world, or the new…

Decades later, 15-year-old Carter Warren is woken from the Catacombs after years of cryonic sleep. He’s determined to do whatever it takes to climb the ranks to Controller General - until he realises the Industry’s control methods have become harsher than ever. The Barricades make sure nothing from the Deadlands can get in to the Community – and no one can get out. And a shocking discovery about his own family causes Carter to question everything he’s ever known…

As Alice becomes entangled in the Industry’s plan for the future, and Carter delves into the secrets of his past, they must make sacrifices which threaten to tear them apart. And both of them are forced to confront an impossible question…

Would you dare to risk it all for the perfect world?

An addictive and gripping dystopian series, perfect for fans of The Girl Who Dared to Think, The Hunger Games and The Gender Game.

This book was previously titled Paradigm.

MY REVIEW

Opening with a bang, THE RISING STORM by Ceri A. Lowe keeps up the energetic pace with this compelling dystopian novel.

After abnormal storms change the world as we know it, Alice is needed to rebuild civilisation but things are not always as they seem and soon Alice is not sure which world she wants to inhabit - the old or the new. While at the same time Carter is being trained to be a future leader and he is determined to be the best that this world has ever seen but when he witnesses how harsh and secretive the Industry truly is, he begins to question everything that he has been taught, and when secrets from the past come to the surface, it will begin a new journey for everyone ...

I'm always a little weary when books are compared to The Hunger Games as I feel they are being set up to fail by comparison but THE RISING STORM really doesn't disappoint. Gripping, well-paced, with plenty of grit, strength, and danger throughout, this novel is unique and fresh and I became fully immersed in the drama. And that ending will leave you wanting the next instalment!!

THE RISING STORM by Ceri A. Lowe is a cracking story and perfect for dystopian fiction fans.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Perfect for fans of Tana French, Jane Casey and Gillian Flynn

TOO SOON TO SEE

Polished. Professional. Perfect. Dead. Respected scientist Dr Eleanor Costello is found hanging in her immaculate home: the scene the very picture of a suicide.

TOO LATE TO HIDE

DCS Frankie Sheehan is handed the case, and almost immediately spots foul play. Sheehan, a trained profiler, is seeking a murderer with a talent for death.

TOO CLOSE TO BREATHE

As Frankie strives to paint a picture of the killer, and their victim, she starts to sense they are part of a larger, darker canvas, on which the lines between the two blur.

Olivia Kiernan's debut is a bold, brilliant thriller that will keep you guessing and leave you breathless.

MY REVIEW

TOO CLOSE TO BREATHE by Olivia Kiernan is a breathtaking debut crime novel that will leave you desperately wanting more from these engaging characters.

DCS Frankie Sheehan is thrown back into work with a bang when the body of Eleanor Costello is found hanging in her bedroom. What appears to be an open and shut case of suicide is soon realised to be anything but and the hunt for a killer begins. But is this all too much for Sheehan who is still recovering after being brutally attacked in a previous murder case? And as another body is discovered with links to Eleanor, is it possible that there is something darker and deeper linking it all together? As time starts to run out, Frankie and her team are determined to unmask the killer but will they be too late ...

The word gripping does not do this superb thriller justice as I was literally sitting at the edge of my seat as I devoured this story from cover to cover. The characters of Frankie and her team are really likeable and I cared instantly about what Frankie had been through and the sense of family among the Garda team was portrayed excellently. The action and danger are outstanding and there were plenty of twists and turns that I did not see coming which is a must in an excellent thriller. The pace is perfect and when it ended I immediately wanted to jump into another one written by Olivia Kiernan and I'm crossing my fingers that I won't have to wait too long!!

TOO CLOSE TO BREATHE by Olivia Kiernan is a first-class crime fiction novel brimming with depth and intelligence and would make a perfect movie or tv drama. If you want to read one excellent thriller this year, make it TOO CLOSE TO BREATHE.

AUTHOR BIO

Olivia Kiernan is the author of TOO CLOSE TO BREATHE, a crime thriller where DCS Frankie Sheehan investigates the murder of Dr Eleanor Costello. At first glance the murder appears uncomplicated but soon spills out onto a dark canvas of fear, lies and murder.

Olivia Kiernan grew up in the Irish countryside, a background which left her with a great appreciation of storytelling. Being almost sensible she shelved aspirations of becoming a writer and embarked on a career in science, spending six years in university studying anatomy and physiology before receiving a BSc in Chiropractic in 2003. She worked in this vein for over a decade, always writing in the evenings after work and completing an MA in Creative Writing through part-time study in 2012.

In 2015, she began writing TOO CLOSE TO BREATHE as part of National Novel Writing Month, polishing off half the first draft by the end of the month-long writing marathon. After hiding the manuscript on her hard drive for close to a year, revisiting it from time to time to add a scene or remove one, she sent it out to agents. Within a month she had signed with a literary agent and in 2017 a dream was realised when TOO CLOSE TO BREATHE sold.

TOO CLOSE TO BREATHE will be released on 5th April 2018 in the UK, and the 3rd of April in the US.

ABOUT THE BOOK

London, 1940. Emmeline Lake is Doing Her Bit for the war effort, volunteering as a telephone operator with the Auxiliary Fire Services. When Emmy sees an advertisement for a job at the London Evening Chronicle, her dreams of becoming a Lady War Correspondent suddenly seem achievable. But the job turns out to be working as a typist for the fierce and renowned advice columnist, Henrietta Bird. Emmy is disappointed, but gamely bucks up and buckles down.

Mrs. Bird is very clear: letters containing any Unpleasantness must go straight in the bin. But when Emmy reads poignant notes from women who may have Gone Too Far with the wrong men, or who can’t bear to let their children be evacuated, she is unable to resist responding. As the German planes make their nightly raids, and London picks up the smoldering pieces each morning, Emmy secretly begins to write back to the readers who have poured out their troubles.

Prepare to fall head over heels for Emmy and her best friend, Bunty, who are gutsy and spirited, even in the face of a terrible blow. The irrepressible Emmy keeps writing letters in this hilarious and enormously moving tale of friendship, the kindness of strangers, and ordinary people in extraordinary times.

MY REVIEW

I am in love with DEAR MRS BIRD by AJ Pearce. Brimming with spirit, this moving tale will burrow into your heart and make you feel every emotion possible as you become deeply invested in Emmy and Bunty's lives.

Set during the war, Emmy and Bunty are two best friends who are determined to do their part in the war effort. Volunteering at the fire station, Emmy has dreams of being a journalist, a war correspondent doing important and dangerous deeds. So when a job becomes available at a prestigious London newspaper, Emmy jumps at the opportunity. But she soon learns that wires have been crossed somewhere as she finds herself helping the formidable Mrs Bird reply to readers questions for a woman's magazine. This in itself isn't too disheartening if Mrs Bird was willing to help so many women who were lost, scared, or torn during this horrible time, but Mrs Bird refuses to help most of their readers, deeming their problems as unacceptable. Well, Emmy has an idea how she can help even if it could cost her her job and when tragedy strikes, Emmy and Bunty will have to fight even harder for what they believe in.

DEAR MRS BIRD by AJ Pearce is heartbreakingly beautiful and brings the hardships and unbelievable strength of human spirit that existed during the war to astonishing light. Emmy and Bunty are brilliant characters who feel like family almost instantly. During their highs and lows, there is always this core of kindness and strong values that shines through on every page. This story will make you smile and make you cry, and completely hook you from the very first line. If I have one negative thing to say about DEAR MRS BIRD is that I didn't want it to end - I want to know what happens next for Bunty and Emmy and how life turns out for Mr. Collins, Kath, and the gang at the fire station - so I really hope there will be a sequel someday soon.

DEAR MRS BIRD by AJ Pearce is everything you want in a historical novel and more so run out and buy your copy as soon as possible because it is a gem that should not be missed.

ABOUT THE BOOK

The romance novel that lets you pick your path, follow your heart, and find happily ever after

You are the plucky but penniless heroine in the center of eighteenth-century society, courtship season has begun, and your future is at hand.

Will you flip forward fetchingly to find love with the bantering baronet Sir Benedict Granville?

Or turn the page to true love with the hardworking, horse-loving highlander Captain Angus McTaggart?

Or perhaps race through the chapters chasing a good (and arousing) man gone mad, bad, and scandalous to know, Lord Garraway Craven?

Or read on recklessly and take to the Continent as the “traveling companion” of the spirited and adventuresome Lady Evangeline?

Or yet some other intriguing fate?

Make choices, turn pages, and discover all the daring delights of the multiple (and intertwining!) storylines. And in every path you pick, beguiling illustrations bring all the lust and love to life.

MY REVIEW

MY LADY'S CHOOSING by Kitty Curran & Larissa Zageris is first and foremost a really fun, interactive story that allows you to be the main character in a feisty, Regency romance that is sure to get the blood pumping. But it was also a throwback to my younger years when choosing your own adventure novels were rampantly popular and I loved that feeling of nostalgia.

Will you choose the handsome, caring, and slightly brusque Highlander who is determined to save those less fortunate? Or the handsome, sharp, and often irritating Lord who knows exactly how to push your buttons? Does an adventure abroad sound more like you? Or will you find love and settle down to hearth and home?

This novel allows you to explore every possible ending which really works well and I have to say the raunchy romance parts of your story will have you laughing out loud as they are certainly written in a 'tongue in cheek' manner.

I loved the settings and the alternative plots, the other characters are entertaining, and I love being myself transported back in time for some adventure.

After finishing MY LADY'S CHOOSING I definitely hope to see more interactive novels as this one was enjoyment personified.

ABOUT THE BOOK

When Superintendent Tom Harper's wife is threatened during an election campaign, the hunt for the attacker turns personal.

Leeds, England. October, 1897. Superintendent Harper is proud of his wife Annabelle. She's one of seven women selected to stand for election as a Poor Law Guardian. But even as the campaign begins, Annabelle and the other female candidates start to receive anonymous letters from someone who believes a woman's place lies firmly in the home.

The threats escalate into outright violence when an explosion rips through the church hall where Annabelle is due to hold a meeting - with fatal consequences. The only piece of evidence Harper has is a scrap of paper left at the scene containing a fragment from an old folk song. But what is its significance?

As polling day approaches and the attacks increase in menace and intensity, Harper knows he's in a race against time to uncover the culprit before more deaths follow. With the lives of his wife and daughter at risk, the political becomes cruelly personal ...

MY REVIEW

This was my first time reading a Chris Nickson novel but it certainly won't be my last! Gripping, inspiring, and brimming with that special something, THE TIN GOD is historical fiction with a political and criminal edge that you simply must read.

It is 1897 and Superintendent Harper has a case that is much too close to home for his liking. His beloved wife and other women in his community are being targeted as they prepare to stand for election so that they can really help those who need it. Harper is proud of his strong, intelligent wife who is determined to make a difference but there is someone who believes that women need to shut up and know their place, and they are willing to kill for it ...

The historical detail in THE TIN GOD is superb as you are transported back in time where everything comes to life in front of your eyes. In our current world where many are still taking on the establishment, demanding equality for all, fighting to be heard, it was really interesting to read a historical story that highlighted another generation who fought bravely and paved the way for us. There are danger and action, politics, and admirable characters that will inspire you, and it is all perfectly packaged in a novel that never gets tired or repetitive.

THE TIN GOD by Chris Nickson is a novel to be savoured and I highly recommend it.

AUTHOR BIO

I'm a novelist and music journalist, the author of many books set between the 1730s and 1950s in Leeds, as well as others in medieval Chesterfield and 1980s Seattle.

Above all, though, its Leeds I love, the people, the sense of the place changing with time. Yes, I write mysteries, but ultmiateoly they're books about people and their relationships, and the crime becomes a moral framework for the story.

ABOUT THE BOOK

When she was sixteen, Diana left her unhappy family and set out to make a new life.

Twenty-five years later, she has arrived. Recently married to Edmund, there are just the two of them living at Wynhope, his family's historic country home, both happy for the past to be locked away and for the future to be free from responsibility. But when Diana hears that her mother has died, she impulsively asks estranged half-sister Valerie and her nine-year-old son to stay.

The night of the funeral, fuelled by wine and years of resentment, the sisters argue and a terrible accident occurs.

The foundations of a well-ordered life start to crack and the lies begin to surface, one secret after another demanding a voice. And then there's the boy, watching, waiting.

MY REVIEW

Dark, disturbing, and sure to leave you feeling unsettled, THE HALF SISTER by Catherine Chanter has an air of gothic horror about it that will slowly draw you in and keep you captive to the very last word.

Diana turned her back on her half-sister years ago but when her mother dies, Diana feels drawn to try and rekindle some sort of relationship with Valerie and her little boy, so she invites them to come and visit her. Their lives couldn't be more different as Diana is wealthy and married to Edmund, while Valerie struggles to look after herself and her son after fleeing an abusive relationship. But both sisters would like to find some common ground and start afresh. However, it is not long before recriminations and accusations are hurled across the room at each other and when a terrible accident occurs it will alter all of their lives forever ...

This story is tense and uncomfortable throughout and you actually feel heavy while reading it because there are so many emotions woven into each page. This story is full of depth and while the characters are not likeable as such, there is something about them that makes you want to understand their actions. This is not a fast-paced story but a sort of unlayering piece by piece until you get to the deeper heart of the characters and everything that they have done and suffered.

THE HALF SISTER by Catherine Chanter is an unusual novel with a distinctive edge and I could imagine watching it on our tv screens as a psychological drama.

ABOUT THE BOOK

A debut novel by a bestselling non-fiction author, this is a witty, wholly entrancing story of the pleasures, pains and obsessions of contemporary life.

Lisa Blaize – teacher, and would-be fashion writer, mother and second wife – feels out of place when her high-flying husband becomes the headmaster of a school in a country town. Isolated and far from her metropolitan upbringing, she turns to the one place where she learns she can be uninhibited.

But ‘Twitter may be my undoing’, Lisa discovers as her one-time private life becomes all too public. Soon she is dealing with an online stalker and her husband’s reputation is put at risk, but will she be able to give up her addiction?

From the gossip of the classroom to our obsession with instant communication, Look To Your Wife is witty and brilliantly observed, revealing the pleasures and pains of contemporary life.

MY REVIEW

LOOK TO YOUR WIFE by Paula Byrne is a strong, pointed, and witty novel that highlights the importance and often detrimental effects that social media has on our day to day lives.

Lisa Blaize appears to have the perfect life - sexy, wealthy, intelligent, married to a man who adores her and the mother of two children whom she adores, there seems to be nothing lacking in her world. But looks can often be deceptive and when Lisa and their family follow her husband's career to a countryside school with an uptight community, Lisa feels like a fish out of water. So when she begins to dabble on social media as a distraction it is just a bit of fun, but soon Twitter becomes an escapism of far more importance to her as it brings people into her real life that could change everything ...
Add in a stalker, an affair, a fire, and some very witty and quirky friendships, and this is just a glimpse into Lisa Blaize's life.

LOOK TO YOUR WIFE by Paula Byrne is a strange book to review because it is a strange book to read. The characters are interesting and different and I enjoyed the focus on Twitter and the fact that it is a surreal way of living, but there were also moments when I didn't connect with what was happening to Lisa and felt she was selfish and naive at times. The story flowed very well and I read it from cover to cover in a few hours and never felt bored but I can't really say if I loved the story or not.

LOOK TO YOUR WIFE by Paula Byrne is a unique story with a satirical flair and will definitely leave you questioning just how much you need social media in your life - an unusual read!
