ABOUT THIS BOOK Long ago Andrew made a childhood wish. One he has always kept in a silver box with a too-big lid that falls off. When it finally comes true, he wishes it hadn't... Long ago Ben dreamed of going to Africa to volunteer at a lion reserve. When he finally goes there, it isn't for the reasons he imagined... Ben and Andrew keep meeting where they least expect. Some collisions are by design, but are they for a reason? Ben's father would disown him for his relationship with Andrew, so they must hide their love. Andrew is determined to make it work, but secrets from his past threaten to ruin everything. Ben escapes to Zimbabwe to finally fulfil his lifelong ambition. But will he ever return to England? To Andrew? To the truth? MY REVIEW Having read Maria in the Moon and loved it, I was pretty confident that I would equally fall in love with THE LION TAMER WHO LOST by Louise Beech but nothing prepared me for this breathtaking, emotional, and heartbreaking story that will stay in my heart forever. Ben and Andrew meet when they least expect it and as fate draws them together and takes them apart, we get to witness a relationship like no other. Ben has lost his mum and his dad is a unique character with whom Ben hides much of his life from. Andrew doesn't know his dad and believes in the magic of a silver box which holds a childhood wish of his. As Ben and Andrew learn about each other, they share their hopes and dreams and forge a relationship like no other. But why is Ben in Africa? And where is Andrew? Moving from past to present THE LION TAMER WHO LOST by Louise Beech draws you into Ben and Andrew's life in a way that is truly beyond words - you feel their love, you feel their bond, and you feel the prejudice that they suffer too which certainly broke my heart. Love is all that matters and I wanted them to find their happily ever after. I loved both of the main characters but found myself enjoying Andrew's sections of the book that little bit more at times, although I can't really explain why. The breathtaking world of Zimbabwe and the lion sanctuary is unlike any other that I have ever read and Louise Beech effortlessly paints a picture for the reader with every word. THE LION TAMER WHO LOST by Louise Beech is not just a good book or a must-read for 2018, it is a book that could open minds and hearts around the world, that could and should be read by everyone worldwide. It is a book that I will never forget and as I re-read my review I worry that I haven't explained myself very well, so I will end on this. Buy this book. Read this book. Experience this book. You won't regret it. AUTHOR BIO Louise Beech knew from being small that she wanted to write.
