Book length - 304 pages Publisher - Puddinhead Press Amazon UK - www.amazon.co.uk Amazon US - www.amazon.com I want to thank the author, Terri Meeker, for providing me with an e-copy of this book for review. ABOUT THIS BOOK Nellie Bly was a real reporter who is credited with inventing investigative journalism when she had herself locked into a madhouse in 1887. This story weds these real events with a time travel element. September, 1887 --"Try me, Mr. Pulitzer. You won't regret it." That brash promise haunts Nellie Bly as she languishes in Blackwell Asylum, her most vital tool--her reporter's notebook--locked away out of reach. Without it, her undercover investigation into cruelty at the institution will fail. June, 2018 --White hat hacker Oliver Cosgriff is between contracts when a strange Craigslist ad snags his attention. Granted, he's not very good a picking up on when someone's joking, but "Time Traveler Wanted" can't be for real. Can it? There's only one way to find out. Before he knows it, Oliver has a deceptively simple assignment with an outsized paycheck: step through a mirror, navigate Blackwell's nightmarish halls to put Nellie's notebook in her hands, and return. But when he steps back into his own time, something is off. Someone rode his coattails back through the portal. Nellie. Now, with a foot in two very different timelines, she's upending Oliver's world--in ways both terrifying and wondrous. ----- Warning: Contains a hero both charmed and cursed by Asperger's, and an intrepid heroine ahead of her time--literally. Also, a sentient weed-eater, a truly terrifying insane asylum, and hitches in the timeline that could make you rethink that third Frappuccino of the day. MY REVIEW Terri Meeker is back with the third instalment in her always exciting and ever-intriguing In Time series titled THE MADHOUSE IN MANHATTAN, and this is a novel that does not disappoint. Now before I delve into my review I just want to state that each of the books in this series can be read as a standalone story but trust me when I say that you will thoroughly enjoy the lot, so go on and treat yourself! I'm sure many of you know the legend that is Nellie Bly and her undercover assignment in an asylum that would change so much for so many. Well, be prepared to discover the life and world of Nellie like never before. It is 1887 and Nellie has managed the first part of her covert operation but without her trusty notebook to record her important findings, it will all be mute. How on earth will she get herself out of this mess? In 2018, Oliver Cosgriff is looking for something to fill his time when a strange ad catches his attention. Time travel cannot seriously be possible, can it? As Oliver transcends time his life will brim with adventure, danger, and so much more, but what happens when the past follows him back into the present? Gripping, entertaining, historical, and quirky are just some of the adjectives I could use to describe THE MADHOUSE IN MANHATTAN by Terri Meeker. This book has heart and soul as well as characters that you will fall in love with, and enough madcap adventures for the most spirited of readers. THE MADHOUSE IN MANHATTAN by Terri Meeker is a superb novel and part of a superb series and I highly recommend it to all fiction fans as there really is something for everyone. AUTHOR BIO Terri Meeker is supposed to write her author blurb in the third person. It's just how things are done. She shouldn't question it, but then she's always been difficult. Even in high school, her best friend's mother described her as 'eccentric' before urging her daughter to make friends with a nice, normal girl. Though she was born in Wyoming, she has made her home in the Pacific NW. She's loved history since childhood and has been fortunate to live in lots of places with fascinating pasts, including: Washington DC, Philadelphia, Virginia Beach, Albuquerque, Missouri and Mons, Belgium. She's an ex-history teacher, a mom a Whedonite, a gamer and a ginormous nerd. She also loves to write.
