Now, two years later and with the help of her hearing dog, Stitch, she is finally getting back on her feet. But when she discovers the body of a fellow nurse in the dense bush by the river, deep in the woods near her cabin, she is plunged into a disturbing mystery that could shatter the carefully reconstructed pieces of her life all over again. As clues begin to surface, Amelia finds herself swept into an investigation that hits all too close to home. But how much is she willing to risk in order to uncover the truth and bring a killer to justice? New York Times bestselling author Heather Gudenkauf has been described as "masterful" and "intelligent" and compared to Lisa Scottoline and Jodi Picoult. Introducing her most compelling heroine yet, she delivers a taut and emotional thriller that proves she's at the top of her class. MY REVIEW Amelia Winn's life is altered forever when she is the victim of a hit and run accident outside of the hospital where she worked as a nurse. Two years later and Amelia is finally starting to pull herself out of the alcoholic whirlpool of depression that sucked all that was good from her life - her career, her husband, her home, her step-daughter. Adjusting to being deaf, Amelia is beginning to dip her toe back into the real world with the help of her dog Stitch and her old family friend, Jake. And the first step is getting a job. But just as things appear to be improving, Amelia comes across a dead body while paddle boarding and finds herself caught up in a murder investigation. Because not only does she recognise the victim, Gwen, she used to be one of Amelia's close friends until Amelia had shut everyone out after the accident. As Amelia and Jake, who also happens to be a police officer, try to unravel the mystery behind Gwen's death, strange things start happening to Amelia. Could there be a link between Amelia's accident and Gwen's murder? And as Amelia begins to piece it all together, who can she really trust? NOT A SOUND by Heather Gudenkauf is such a compelling and gripping story of lies, secrets, and betrayals that will leave your mouth agape in shock. I really admired Amelia as she tries to navigate a world that she once knew so well, but is now completely foreign and new to her now that she can no longer hear. She is an independent, strong, and realistic character with her own flaws which made it very easy to connect with her as a character. Stitch is such a loveable rogue and really added that something extra special to the book. As the plot unfolds and the danger becomes more real, everything is heightened and more tense as Amelia tries to protect herself and uncover the truth at the same time, all the while not sure who she can trust. Well-paced and completely thrilling from start to finish, NOT A SOUND by Heather Gudenkauf is an excellent psychological thriller that will leave you breathless. Author Bio: Heather Gudenkauf is the Edgar Award nominated, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of The Weight of Silence, These Things Hidden and Not A Sound. Heather was born in Wagner, South Dakota, the youngest of six children. At one month of age, her family returned to the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota where her father was employed as a guidance counselor and her mother as a school nurse. At the age of three, her family moved to Iowa, where she grew up. Having been born with a profound unilateral hearing loss (there were many evenings when Heather and her father made a trip to the bus barn to look around the school bus for her hearing aids that she often conveniently would forget on the seat beside her), Heather tended to use books as a retreat, would climb into the toy box that her father’s students from Rosebud made for the family with a pillow, blanket, and flashlight, close the lid, and escape the world around her. Heather became a voracious reader and the seed of becoming a writer was planted. Heather Gudenkauf graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in elementary education, has spent her career working with students of all ages and continues to work in education as a Title I Reading Coordinator. Heather lives in Iowa with her family and a very spoiled German Shorthaired Pointer named Lolo. In her free time Heather enjoys spending time with her family, reading and hiking. She is currently working on her next novel.
