ABOUT THIS BOOK You've got to be in the club to know the truth. Everyone's heard the rumours about elite gentlemen's clubs, where the champagne flows freely, the parties are the height of decadence . . . and the secrets are darker than you could possibly imagine. DS Maeve Kerrigan finds herself in an unfamiliar world of wealth, luxury and ruthless behaviour when she investigates the murder of a young journalist, Paige Hargreaves. Paige was working on a story about the Chiron Club, a private society for the richest and most privileged men in London. Then she disappeared. It's clear to Maeve that the members have many secrets. But Maeve is hiding secrets of her own – even from her partner DI Josh Derwent. Will she uncover the truth about Paige’s death? Or will time run out for Maeve first? MY REVIEW A compelling crime drama that kept me hooked from beginning to end, THE CUTTING PLACE by Jane Casey is the latest addition to the DS Maeve Kerrigan series. When the body parts of a young journalist are discovered, it is up to DS Kerrigan and her colleagues to try and piece together what happened and as they start to dig into her life one name continues to crop up - the Chiron Club. An elite club that is shrouded in secrecy and mystery, it is more than just an old-boys business club. There is something murky underneath the surface and it is up to Maeve and her partner Josh to find it. But they both have their own lives and problems to confront too, some of which could change their lives forever. But as the clock keeps on ticking and the body count appears to be rising, can Maeve uncover the truth or will someone silence her for good? While THE CUTTING PLACE is part of a series, I have to admit that this is my first time reading Jane Casey and while it can be read as a standalone, I loved Maeve and Josh so much that I have ordered the entire series because you can never have too many excellent books! And this author is excellent. The characters come alive in a way that I have never experienced before in crime fiction. They are gritty, raw, real, vulnerable, strong, and every other combination of emotion that makes them relatable and feel like family. The crime element is perfectly executed for the times we are living in, dealing with sensitive issues like rape, murder, domestic abuse, drugs, and power wielded by those with enough money to enforce silence. I love a good police procedural and this story has it all with some surprises along the way that are enough to keep you on guard. THE CUTTING PLACE by Jane Casey is crime fiction at its best and I have found a new favourite author. I'm now going to disappear and catch up with Maeve and Josh. Until next time! AUTHOR BIO Jane Casey has written ten crime novels for adults and three for teenagers.
