ABOUT THIS BOOK FEAR Tuva’s been living clean in southern Sweden for four months when she receives horrifying news. Her best friend Tammy Yamnim has gone missing. SECRETS Racing back to Gavrik at the height of Midsommar, Tuva fears for Tammy’s life. Who has taken her, and why? And who is sabotaging the small-town search efforts? LIES Surrounded by dark pine forest, the sinister residents of Snake River are suspicious of outsiders. Unfortunately, they also hold all the answers. On the shortest night of the year, Tuva must fight to save her friend. The only question is who will be there to save Tuva? MY REVIEW Compelling, tense, and twisted in its very own special way, makes BLACK RIVER by Will Dean one of the best books I have read this year. Tuva is back in Gavrik but not because she wants to be. She was trying to get her life in order in a new place, with a new job and giving up alcohol. But she had to come back because her best friend, Tammy, has gone missing and nobody appears to be taking it seriously. But when another woman disappears, the town suddenly starts paying attention and you can almost feel the fear among this isolated community. Who has taken them? Why? And will they be found before it is too late? Haunting is a word that matches this book perfectly. From the very beginning, there is an eeriness that creeps up your back as you delve deep into this wild landscape alongside Tuva, as she tries to find her friend. Tuva is the kind of friend we would all need - determined, brave, intelligent, and always willing to push the boundaries for the truth. As always with Will Dean's books, I had no idea who had Tammy or why and when the truth came out, it shocked me and gave me that involuntary shiver that only his books can. BLACK RIVER by Will Dean is the third book in this series and I highly recommend that you read all three because they are special in a way that is hard to describe. I always thought that living in a little cabin in the forest, with no neighbours and just nature for company would be idyllic, but after reading these books, I have to say I'm second guessing the idea!! An excellent story and I cannot wait for more. AUTHOR BIO Will Dean grew up in the East Midlands and had lived in nine different villages before the age of eighteen. After studying Law at the LSE and working in London, he settled in rural Sweden where he built a house in a boggy clearing at the centre of a vast elk forest, and it’s from this base that he compulsively reads and writes. His debut novel, Dark Pines, was selected for Zoe Ball’s Book Club, shortlisted for the Guardian Not the Booker prize and named a Daily Telegraph Book of the Year. The second Tuva Moodyson mystery, Red Snow, was published in January 2019 and won Best Independent Voice at the Amazon Publishing Readers' Awards, 2019.
