But one night she swaps her trademark saw for an axe. When Arden's husband is found dead later that night, the answer seems clear, most of all to young policeman Virgil Holt. Captured and taken into custody, all seems set for Arden's swift confession. But she has a different story to tell. Even handcuffed and alone, Arden is far from powerless, and what she reveals is as unbelievable as it is spellbinding. A magical and mysterious historical thriller, perfect for fans of The Night Circus and Water for Elephants. MY REVIEW Today I am on the blog tour for THE MAGICIAN'S LIE by Greer Macallister and I cannot wait to share my thoughts on this hugely successful novel. The concept of this story immediately fascinated me as I was always interested in the art and mystery of the magical world of illusion, and the people behind the facade. So going into this book I was prepared to be dazzled, but this story is so much more than dazzling. It is 1905 and Officer Holt, who is struggling to deal with his own problems, stumbles across The Amazing Arden, the most famous female illusionist of their time, who is currently the number one suspect in the murder of her husband. Arresting her and bringing her back to his office in the dead of night, Holt is determined to get the truth out of this woman, And so begins Arden's story of the woman behind the magic. As the narrative switches from her past to her present, the brutality of the harsh world she lived in is mixed with love, honesty, and the determination of a survivor. From the beginning, I was hooked by this dark, expressive, soul-stirring novel that reels you in and doesn't let you go until the story completely unfolds. The characters are absorbing, the magic is captivating, and the story is unsettling in a good way. THE MAGICIAN'S LIE by Greer Macallister is a remarkable read so be prepared to be enthralled!
