ABOUT THIS BOOK In the early 1900s, a young woman embarks on a fantastical journey of self-discovery after finding a mysterious book in this captivating and lyrical debut. In a sprawling mansion filled with peculiar treasures, January Scaller is a curiosity herself. As the ward of the wealthy Mr. Locke, she feels little different from the artifacts that decorate the halls: carefully maintained, largely ignored, and utterly out of place. Then she finds a strange book. A book that carries the scent of other worlds, and tells a tale of secret doors, of love, adventure and danger. Each page turn reveals impossible truths about the world and January discovers a story increasingly entwined with her own. MY REVIEW Breathtaking in so many ways, THE TEN THOUSAND DOORS by Alix E. Harrow is truly unlike any other book I have ever read before. It is the 1900s and a young girl called January Scaller finds herself living in the home of Mr. Locke, a wealthy businessman who employs her father to find unusual treasures and artefacts. But January is struggling to find her place and happiness in this home as she becomes more and more aware that she is a curiosity herself to the rest of the world. But January believes in magic and when she discovers a book about secret doors and the worlds they are hiding, everything will change. A captivating adventure, THE TEN THOUSAND DOORS is almost lyrical in its descriptions and the characters come alive upon each page in such a spellbinding way that it will have you stopping along the way and taking a breath to take it all in. I'm struggling to convey just how special this story is without saying too much, but there is love, heartache, magic, and more nestled among these pages that will take you to another time and place and capture your heart. THE TEN THOUSAND DOORS by Alix E. Harrow is exquisite in every way and I highly recommend it to all readers who yearn to get lost in a truly excellent book. AUTHOR BIO Alix E. Harrow is an ex-historian with lots of opinions and excessive library fines, currently living in Kentucky with her husband and their semi-feral children. Her short fiction has been nominated for the Hugo, Nebula and Locus awards. The Ten Thousand Doors of January is her debut novel.
