ABOUT THIS BOOK Welcome to the Larkford Surgery in the Cotswolds, the heart of a tightknit community as well as a hotbed of drama, rivalry, resentment and romance - and that's just the doctors … Dr Holly Graham is finding life with two sets of twins exhausting. Even with husband Dr Taffy Jones and devoted friend Elsie by her side, she is completely outnumbered. Making the transition back to work will be no easy feat but a regular slot on Radio Larkford as their on-air doctor might be the perfect stepping stone, until an unexpected job offer changes everything. Dr Alice Walker’s new canine clinic at Larkford Surgery with Coco, her assistance dog, has been a storming success. If only shipping her best friend, Dr Tilly Grainger, in from South America to cover for Holly had been such a smooth transition. It seems that Tilly isn’t finding life in the peaceful Cotswolds valley as rewarding as she’d hoped, and she is causing chaos ... MY REVIEW Oh, it is such a joy to return to the wonderful community of Larkford and SNOWED IN AT THE PRACTICE by Penny Parkes is another brilliant story from start to finish. Dr. Holly Graham's life is hectic. With two sets of twins to look after, being a stay-at-home mum is harder than she ever imagined it would be. Holly adores being there for her babies but she misses being a doctor and when she gets a job opportunity, could she change the direction of her career without it impacting her family? And will her husband support it? But at least she has the unique and fabulous Elsie to confide in even if she does seem to be keeping secrets. Meanwhile, the surgery is as busy as ever and Holly is definitely missed by Grace and the patients. Tilly, who is standing in for Holly, is a wonderful doctor but something is stopping her from really connecting to life in the village, and as she leaves a trail of broken hearts in her wake, her friends cannot help but wonder why it feels like she will pack up and leave soon. With Alice missing her boyfriend and worrying about her friends, and Connor trying to embrace his new life, there are plenty of mishaps, misunderstandings, and drama floating around this beautiful place. But will everything change as this special group of people make new choices and open up about what they really want from their future? Engaging, compelling, and just the perfect read to settle down with in the cold evenings, SNOWED IN AT THE PRACTICE by Penny Parkes is everything I hoped it would be and more. It is part of a series but it can be read as a standalone - although trust me, this series is superb and well worth reading. The characters feel like family and there were times when I laughed, times when I cried, and times when my heart raced alongside them as their lives came to life on the page. The setting of Larkford is stunning as always and reading Penny Parkes' books is like getting a huge hug when you need it the most. SNOWED IN AT THE PRACTICE by Penny Parkes is one of the best books to read this winter and I highly recommend it (and the series) to all fiction fans. AUTHOR BIO Penny Parkes lives in the Cotswolds. She has appeared at literary festivals around the country and has written for The Telegraph as well as extensively in her local media. She is very active on social media. ABOUT THIS BOOK Last winter she had a plan. Lucy fell in love with tumbledown Rosemary Cottage as a child. She’ll raise her children in Burley Bridge and transform the cottage into a B&B with her husband. But a year can change everything . . . Now Lucy is juggling two children and a B&B, but on her own. Christmas looks set to be their last on Rosemary Lane – until she meets James, a face from her past and someone who might offer a different kind of future . . . Should Lucy leave the cottage behind? Or could this winter on Rosemary Lane be the start of something new? MY REVIEW Heartwarming, emotional, and with utterly endearing characters, SNOWDROPS ON ROSEMARY LANE by Ellen Berry is a simply wonderful story. When Lucy was younger she used to love to visit her relatives in Burley Bridge where she had summer friendships and ran wild in the countryside. And there was always Rosemary Cottage which felt special to her, a place where she would love to live one day. But when Lucy meets one of her old summer friends from her childhood, who is going through is own family worries and issues, the possibility of a different future opens up before them. Engaging, compelling, and captivating from beginning to end, SNOWDROPS ON ROSEMARY LANE by Ellen Berry is everything I wanted it to be and more. I laughed, I cried, and I worried alongside Lucy and the rest of the characters in this homely and lovely setting which comes alive on every page, and I sat up until the wee hours to finish this special story. A must-read for Christmas fiction fans and readers who just love a well-written and in-depth story, SNOWDROPS ON ROSEMARY LANE is sure to hit the spot. ABOUT THIS BOOK Welcome to Mistletoe Island, where dreams can come true... The snow is falling and Fliss's friends have arrived to celebrate her wedding for a week at Holly Cottage. It's the perfect way to kick off her brand-new life, isn't it? Except Ruth wishes she was anywhere other than a remote Scottish island, Caitlin is keeping a secret from her friends, Lara is suddenly facing her ex a decade after turning down his proposal and even the bride has something to hide... But as the friends prepare for a week to remember, will Fliss's dream wedding go off without a hitch, or will the secrets they've been hiding change everything? MY REVIEW THE WEDDING ON MISTLETOE ISLAND by Sophie Pembroke is an excellent story about being true to oneself and the ever-changing nature of friendship and feelings, and I could not put this book down, it was that compelling. Ten years ago Fliss gathered her close group of University friends together at Holly Cottage which has always meant so much to her. This was their final time together before they entered adulthood and life started to take them in different directions but when a proposal got turned down and hearts got broken, the group dynamic was altered forever. Now, ten years later, Fliss has finally found her prince and is getting married, and her close friends are gathering together once more at Holly Cottage, but this time for her wedding. But it isn't long before the tensions of the past rise to the surface again and shocking secrets come bubbling out. As each of the group tries to deal with their own personal dramas and emotional upheavals, hearts will be bruised, old truths will be faced head-on, and friendships will be broken, but maybe they will each find out who they really are and face the truth about what they want for the future. I absolutely loved this book and this quirky group of friends who are so close but also hide so much of who they really are and what they really want from each other at the same time. Fliss is the nice one of the group - the one who looks after everyone and the one they feel they have to protect but they do not know the other side of Fliss, only one person knows the real her. Caitlin and Noel have always been the mum and dad of the group but it isn't long before everyone starts to notice the cracks beginning to show. Alec and Ruth are struggling with a very personal loss and this wedding trip is the last thing Ruth wants when she has always felt like an outsider but maybe this island can heal them a little and help them find their way back to each other. Ten years ago, Lara and Jon's lives went in opposite directions but how will they handle being back in each other's personal space and the fact that they still seem to have a connection? And then there is Harry, the messer of the group. But maybe Harry knows and understands more than they could possibly imagine. Throw in some interfering mothers and the wedding preparations from hell and this story is set to keep you hooked from beginning to end. THE WEDDING ON MISTLETOE ISLAND by Sophie Pembroke is a compelling story about friendship and love and I highly recommend it to all womens fiction fans as well as fans of Christmas novels. AUTHOR BIO Sophie Pembroke writes very British romances for Orion, Mills & Boon / Harlequin Romance, Avon and HQ. She has been dreaming, reading and writing romance ever since she read her first Mills & Boon as part of her English Literature degree at Lancaster University, so getting to write romantic fiction for a living really is a dream come true! She lives in a little English market town with her scientist husband, wildly imaginative ten year old daughter, and adorable four year old son. She spends her days writing, drinking tea and curling up with a good book. (Oh, and planning. There is a lot of planning.) In Sophie’s world, happy is for ever after, everything stops for tea, and there’s always time for just one more page… For more information: Website - www.sophiepembroke.com Twitter - twitter.com/Sophie_Pembroke Facebook - www.facebook.com/SophiePembrokeAuthor/ Instagram - www.instagram.com/sophie_pembroke/ DON'T FORGET TO CHECK OUT ALL OF THE OTHER STOPS ALONG THE WAY!!! ABOUT THIS BOOK The Vroom-Town trucks are all very excited when Santa Claus asks them to make him a new sleigh. Unfortunately, Terrible Terry and BullyDozer have other ideas! They sabotage Santa’s sleigh to make sure it won’t be ready in time to do his deliveries on Christmas Eve! Oh Dear! Will the children get their presents? Will Terrible Terry and BullyDozer get their comeuppance? You will have to read the book to find out… MY REVIEW A beautiful addition to what is already a fantastic children's series, The Adventures of Santa Claus and the Magic Truck Dust from Vroom-town is sure to make your festive season even more special with your little ones. The trucks are very excited to help Santa this year by making him an extra special sleigh but sadly Terrible Terry and Bullydozer have other plans. Determined to ruin everyone's fun, they sabotage the sleigh. But how will Santa deliver the presents on Christmas Eve? Will Christmas be cancelled this year?!? Or can the Vroom-town gang come up with a plan to save the day? Beautifully illustrated and with a story that young kids can really sink their teeth into, The Adventures of Santa Claus and the Magic Truck Dust is the perfect present this season. Alongside this festive adventure, the story gently raises the topics of bullying and misbehaving while showing how teamwork and friendship can always make things better. The characters are loveable and the quality of this book (and the Vroom-Town series) is second to none. Inside the book, there is also a code that opens up a whole other set of fun activities on the Vroom-Town website (see the link further down) so that even when you have finished the story there is more fun for the kids. A fabulous story by a fabulous author, Vroom-Town is one series that should not be missed!!!! AUTHOR BIO I became interested in writing children's books probably later than most. Like everything in life, it's about timing and when my professional career and my imagination collided, the wonderful world of Vroom-Town was created. I started on this journey six years ago and now, after a lot of speed-bumps, there are five books oublished so far in the Vroom-Town series! - I have another 9 books written and titles for a further 58 - so hopefully this is the start of something wonderful for children to enjoy for many years to come. My background is Marketing and I have more than twenty years marketing experience - eighteen years of which has been, and still is, as Marketing Manager of McElvaney Motors, Ireland - a Scania Truck Dealer - hence the inspiration for books about trucks! I am extremely passionate about Vroom-Town and the exciting characters that I have created. I thought that these days, children are playing on their parents' phones and laptops almost before they can talk and therefore I created an online element to Vroom-Town - which includes games, puzzles and colouring. When I walk into shops I still get so excited at seeing my books on the shelf and I don't think that 'buzz' will ever leave me. What I really enjoy immensely is doing Vroom-Town Storytimes in libraries and schools when I can see the delight in children's eyes and their reaction to the stories. I love getting their feedback and finding out who their favourite character is and which part of the stories they liked! Afterall, that is what writing children's books is all about! I am very excited about the prospect of even more children around the world enjoying the books and falling in love with the characters!! The books are available in all good book shops in Ireland, the UK and the USA, as well as on all online bookstores and from our own website. ABOUT THIS BOOK Two people. One chance meeting. Seven days to Christmas. Isobel Bennett is waiting for the number 11 bus when a man quite literally falls into her lap. Snow is falling, Christmas lights are twinkling, and a gorgeous man with dark brown hair has just slipped on ice and is now pressed against Isobel. Isobel knows she’s not imagining the chemistry between them. But then his ride arrives and, embarrassed, he beats a hasty retreat, murmuring apologies – and Isobel realises only too late that she didn’t manage to catch his name… When she runs into him again the next morning, she decides it’s fate. It’s a second chance for Isobel and Tom – but there’s only one week until she’s leaving London for good. Seven days of enjoying all the festive delights the city has to offer: ice-skating at Somerset House, mulled wine on the Southbank, Christmas shopping at Liberty. There’s magic in the air and mistletoe in the trees – but what will happen when the week is over? MY REVIEW ONE WEEK 'TIL CHRISTMAS by Belinda Missen is engaging, entertaining, and sure to make your heart swoon as you get caught up in this wonderful love story. Isobel works as a travel writer for a newspaper back in Australia that tends to take advantage of her kind nature. Yes, she gets to meet lots of wonderful people and enjoy so many beautiful places but she also misses out on so many family events and special moments, and Isobel is starting to get sick of it all. So when she has some time off while in London before Christmas, she plans to take advantage and experience everything this city has to offer but what she doesn't expect is to find herself lying underneath a very handsome stranger called Tom after he accidentally knocks her to the ground. And when a last-minute job brings her face to face with Tom again, Isobel is starting to believe in magic. As they start to get to know each other, a real connection and attraction is soon to follow but can a relationship ever work when Isobel is leaving in seven days? And when a misunderstanding happens, will it all end in tears before love has a chance to blossom? I loved the characters in this story and I found Isobel easy to connect with and very witty at times. The setting of London at Christmas came alive before my eyes and I felt like I was there at the markets, ice-skating alongside them, or wandering around Liberty's. ONE WEEK 'TIL CHRISTMAS by Belinda Missen kept me hooked from start to finish and I couldn't wait to find out what would happen when Isobel and Tom's time was up. This is a great read and a must-read this festive season. AUTHOR BIO Author and sometimes foodie, Belinda is a ridiculous romantic who met her husband after being set up by a friend two states away. Residing in country Victoria, surrounded by books, cat-fur, and half-eaten cake, Belinda divides her days between writing rom-coms, baking, and indulging her love of comic books. ABOUT THIS BOOK A time for spilling secrets… Having refurbished her inherited house and upcycled her whole life in the process, Freya – now happily married to Patrick, and with a small child – has to transform her tiny stone barn into a romantic hideaway for a mystery guest who is also looking for change. With Christmas only a week away, things don’t go according to plan… In the past, old uncertainties are resolved when a woman seeks the truth of a legend on Christmas Eve and confesses to a deception; a Tudor wife listens to a story that must never be repeated and is given a precious relic that must never be displayed; and in the early nineteenth century, an old woman tells a younger one the story of the hares at Ladywell. Past and present are only a whisper apart when Freya learns of an astonishing discovery that will make Ladywell famous, but meanwhile her house is full of unexpected visitors, she has a turkey to cook – and a very special secret of her own that must be told. MY REVIEW CHRISTMAS AT LADYWELL by Nicola Slade is a moving story of past and present, the meaning of family, with a little mystery thrown in for good measure. History and the present day exist side by side in this enjoyable story. As Freya transforms her stone barn as a guest cottage for a new visitor, things don't go quite to plan. While at the same time we learn about a legend from the past where scandal, illness, friendships, and love would be tested. A story of family across the ages, Freya will begin to understand more about Ladywell and all that that entails, and it was great to see a glimpse into both of these worlds that have so much still in common. CHRISTMAS AT LADYWELL by Nicola Slade is a wonderful short story and I highly recommend it to fans of this genre. AUTHOR BIO Nicola Slade wrote short stories while her three children were growing up; her first novel, a romantic comedy, Scuba Dancing, was published in 2005 and since then she has been writing cozy mysteries with a sixth novel due out December 2013. She is currently writing two cozy series: Charlotte Richmond Investigates... set in the 1850s with a feisty young Australian widow as sleuth. Her contemporary series, The Harriet Quigley Mysteries feature recently retired headmistress Harriet with her cousin and sidekick, the Reverend Sam Hathaway, a Canon of Winchester Cathedral. Nicola's books are all set in and around the ancient city of Winchester in the south of England, near her home where she lives with her husband and a very fat cat. ABOUT THIS BOOK The week before Christmas, GP Zander Gillespie finds his festive plans in tatters. He’s supposed to be flying out to his parents’ chateau in Carcassonne with his high-maintenance girlfriend, Melissa. But she has other ideas. She wants to spend Christmas in London with her party friends – and he’s not invited. The prospect of facing his family, with their questions and their sympathy – not to mention the ‘I told you so-s’ - just isn’t an option. Instead, Zander decides to head to his holiday cottage in the quaint moorland village of Lytell Stangdale, where he intends to hide away with his faithful rescue Labrador Alf. Eighty miles away, Livvie’s world has come crashing down. With plans to cook a romantic meal for her boyfriend, she heads home early and walks in on him in a compromising position with their neighbour. Fed-up of his lies and philandering ways, this is the final straw. With her Christmas plans up in smoke, the thought of spending it with her parents and her smug, married sister with her pompous husband in tow, is enough to bring Livvie out in hives. So, when she fires up her laptop and finds the perfect little holiday cottage in Lytell Stangdale available to rent over the festive period, it seems the perfect solution. Or is it…? Zander didn't believe in love at first sight until he set eyes on Livvie. Livvie had sworn off men until she met Zander. The pair may be reluctant to give in to temptation, but fate seems to have other ideas… MY REVIEW Warm, inviting, and just a lovely read, A CHRISTMAS KISS by Eliza J. Scott is a great read for the season. Zander is left disappointed by his long-term girlfriend once again and at Christmas no less. Not wanting to bring the spirit down with his own family, Zander spots that his holiday cottage is empty and decides to spend it there alone, with his furry best friend, Alf. Maybe some time alone will help him figure out just what he wants for his future. Livvie's world has just been blown apart when she walks in her boyfriend cheating on her. Needing to escape, she books a holiday cottage in a quiet, little village where she hopes to lick her wounds and figure out her next move. What neither of them expects is to be sharing the same house or the instant connection that seems to spark between them. As they spend more time together, they struggle with their feelings for each other. Will Christmas work its magic on both of their broken hearts and show them what true love could be like? A CHRISTMAS KISS by Eliza J. Scott is the fourth book in a series but it can easily be read as a standalone story which is how I read it. But I intend to read the other books as I really enjoyed the author's writing style and flair for romance. The village is beautifully depicted and I enjoyed the community spirit of everyone there. Zander and Livvie are wonderful characters and I enjoyed watching them figure out their worth and believing in love. A CHRISTMAS KISS by Eliza J. Scott is delightful from start to finish and is sure to please all Christmas fiction and romance fans alike. AUTHOR BIO Eliza is proud to be a member of the RNA. She lives in a 17th-century cottage in a village in the North Yorkshire Moors with her husband, their two daughters and two mischievous black Labradors. When she’s not writing, she can usually be found with her nose in a book/glued to her Kindle or working in her garden, fighting a losing battle against the weeds. When she's not reading or gardening, Eliza also enjoys bracing walks in the countryside, rounded off by a visit to a teashop where she can indulge in another two of her favourite things: tea and cake. Her biggest weakness is ginger biscuits dunked in tea. Eliza is inspired by her beautiful surroundings and loves to write heartwarming romance stories with relatable female characters. She enjoys exploring the dynamics of female friendship, with a key feature of her books being how women pull together and support one another when things get tough. ABOUT THIS BOOK Christmas in Cornwall is just around the corner… But after last Christmas revealed a shocking family secret, Scarlett’s hardly feeling merry and bright. All she wants this Christmas is to know who her real father is. So Scarlett heads to the little Cornish town of Porthmellow, where she believes the truth of her birth is hidden. She just didn’t bargain on being drawn into the Christmas festival preparations – or meeting Jude Penberth, whose charm threatens to complicate life further. Everything will come to a head at Porthmellow’s Christmas Festival … But can Scarlett have the perfect Christmas this year, or are there more surprises on the way? MY REVIEW Emotional and compelling, A PERFECT CORNISH CHRISTMAS by Phillipa Ashley is about family and making mistakes, and shows how love may never be perfect but it is always the most precious thing in the world. Last Christmas her family was torn apart when Scarlett and her sister, Ellie, came up with the perfect plan of researching their ancestry through their DNA and presenting it to the rest of their family on Christmas day. But what it showed was that Scarlett is their half-sister and their dad is not her biological dad. Now almost a year later, her mum refuses to talk about it and her parents are on the brink of divorce. Moving to the picture-perfect town of Porthmellow where Ellie lives, makes sense to Scarlett and she has a suspicion that her biological father may just live there too. Soon Scarlett makes friends, finds work, and even feels the first flutters of love after having a horrid breakup over a year ago. But as Scarlett starts digging deeper and deeper for the truth, will it bring even more secrets to the surface? And will she ever have her whole family together for Christmas again? With plenty of twists and turns, emotional highs and lows, and characters that really worm their way into your heart, A PERFECT CORNISH CHRISTMAS by Phillipa Ashley is my favourite type of book, where you get sucked into the story immediately and you walk around reading it while trying to clean ('trying' being the operative word here!). The setting and community spirit of Porthmellow touched my heart and I loved their Christmas day lunch idea. As the past came hurtling into the present, I felt for Scarlett who was so desperate to find out who her dad was but I also felt for her mother as it was obvious that this wasn't some sordid affair, and was something painful for her mother, so I felt for both sides. Ellie was one of my favourite characters as we got to know her and the traumatic things she had dealt with alone for so long and I desperately wanted her to open herself up and find happiness after what she had been through. A PERFECT CORNISH CHRISTMAS by Phillipa Ashley shows that there is no such thing as perfect in life, but there is such a thing as love. The kind of love that takes the good with the bad, that learns to trust and be vulnerable, and the kind of love that can forgive. This is a wonderful book and I highly recommend it! AUTHOR BIO Phillipa Ashley is an award-winning author of 17 novels under three pen-names. Her best selling new Cornish Cafe series is available in e book and paperback now. The first in a brand new series - Christmas on the Little Cornish Isles: the Driftwood Inn was published on September 18th. She also writes the Oxford Blue series as Pippa Croft.
