ABOUT THIS BOOK This Christmas fall in love with the town of Chesterwood... Christmas is meant to be a time of giving, so with Chesterwood food bank under risk of closure Fern knows just what to do to save it. She's going to get the town to create a living advent calendar. Fern, and her best friends, call for help from the local community to bring this calendar to life. When Kit, the new man in town, offers his assistance Fern's heart can't help but skip a beat (or two). As they grow ever closer, Fern must admit that Kit's breaking down the barriers she built after the death of her husband. But his past is holding him back and Fern doesn't know how to reach him. No matter how hard she tries. In this town, Kit's not the only one with secrets. Domestic goddess Cara is behaving oddly, burning meals in the oven and clothes whilst ironing, and Davina's perfect children are causing trouble at school leaving her son, Jasper, desperately unhappy. Can the Christmas Calendar Girls find a way to bring the community together in time to save the food bank, while still supporting their families and each other? Can Fern find love again with Kit? MY REVIEW THE CHRISTMAS CALENDAR GIRLS by Samantha Tonge is more than a cosy Christmas novel. It is a wonderful tale of friendship, community, and fresh beginnings with characters that feel like your closest friends and a setting that makes you feel like you live there. Fern, Cara, and Davina are best friends that live in the same neighbourhood even though they all have different personalities. After losing her husband, Fern works hard to provide for herself and her daughter, and understanding how close anyone could be to losing everything, Fern sets out to help the local food bank which is under threat, with a Christmas idea, a living advent calendar, that is sure to bring the community together too. Now if only she could stop thinking about her good friend Kit in an altogether more than friendly way, life would be much simpler. But he calls to her soul in a way that makes it hard to ignore. Nothing is ever simple which is also the case for Fern's two besties - Cara is struggling to hold everything together and be the perfect wife, mother, and daughter-in-law, and soon appears to be dropping balls all over the place, and Davina's kids aren't having the easiest of times and she needs to get to the bottom of what is causing such unhappiness. But with the living advent calendar just around the corner and numerous neighbours, ideas, food, and snacks to be organised for everyone on the street can these women band together, solve their own problems, and find a little Christmas magic along the way? I loved the idea of a living advent calendar and couldn't wait to start reading THE CHRISTMAS CALENDAR GIRLS and this book does not disappoint. The relationship between the three women is truly special and each character captured my heart in different ways making them all equally as special. The drama, the misunderstandings, and the hope for the future, all combine to make this story unputdownable. THE CHRISTMAS CALENDAR GIRLS by Samantha Tonge is excellent in every way and I loved every page of this wonderful tale. AUTHOR BIO Samantha Tonge lives in Manchester UK with her husband and children. ABOUT THIS BOOK Ernest Drabble, a Cambridge historian and mountaineer, travels to rural Devon to inspect the decapitated head of Oliver Cromwell - a macabre artefact owned by Dr Wilkinson. Drabble only tells one person of his plans - Harris, an old school friend and press reporter. On the train to Devon, Drabble narrowly avoids being murdered, only to reach his destination and find Dr Wilkinson has been killed. Gripped in Wilkinson's hand is a telegram from Winston Churchill instructing him to bring the head of Oliver Cromwell to London. Drabble has unwittingly become embroiled in a pro-Nazi conspiracy headed by a high-status Conservative member of the British government. And so, Drabble teams up with Wilkinson's secretary, Kate Honeyand, to find the head and rescue Harris who is being tortured for information... MY REVIEW A quirky, enjoyable tale RULE BRITANNIA by Alec Marsh is sure to please historical fiction and mystery fans alike. Ernest Drabble is part traveller and part professor but when he is asked to study and inspect the decapitated head of Oliver Cromwell, he cannot wait to dive into this top-secret project. Naturally, this would be huge news but Drabble has trusted the truth with his close friend, Harris. As Drabble sets off on his journey to Devon, Harris is busy telling everyone about what Drabble is doing. But the secret has reached the wrong ears and it isn't long before Drabble is fighting for his life and the bodies begin to mount up. Why does someone want to kill to stop Drabble and Harris? And can they discover the truth before it is too late? Fascinating, compelling, and with a more modern Sherlock Holmes vibe, RULE BRITANNIA by Alex Marsh is the kind of story that you intend to pick up for a half an hour and end up reading the whole night. The characters are your stiff-upper-lip type but with hidden depths and strengths that I enjoyed getting to know. The first in a series, RULE BRITANNIA is an entertaining story and I look forward to the next book in this series. AUTHOR BIO Alec Marsh was born in Essex in 1975. ABOUT THIS BOOK Begin the journey; discover your destiny... Set against a backdrop of Scottish myths and legends, follow the epic quest by a changeling, a selkie and a prince to find an ancient and powerful object, and save the kingdom. Ailsa doesn’t believe in faerie tales, only the monsters in them. But, with the mark on her face, most people consider her one of them—a changeling. Her secluded life shifts when she rescues two selkies from bloodthirsty raiders. Now she must act as their guard as they travel to the capital and then, with the help of the Prince of Eilanmor, journey north to find the Stone of Destiny - the only object protecting them all from the evil faerie queen. But all her life a malignant creature has stalked her through the forest. Can Ailsa find the Stone of Destiny before something wicked finds her? MY REVIEW Fresh, captivating, and brimming with adventure, THE STONE OF DESTINY by Caroline Logan is the perfect start to this new fantasy series, which will appeal to young adults and adults alike. Ailsa knows what it's like to be alone. Shunned as a changeling by her village ever since her mother died, Ailsa has had to fend for herself and grow up quickly. Now on a secluded bay, she forages for whatever she can and is able to defend herself if the need arises. She finds peace in the solitude and has learned to become content with her own company. But when a woman's cry pierces the silence, Ailsa comes to her aid which will set her on a path of adventure, danger, and so much more. With magic, selfies, demons, and more, Ailsa must learn her own strength and protect those that she has come to care for before darkness takes over the land forever. Exciting from the very beginning, THE STONE OF DESTINY by Caroline Logan is the kind of story that keeps you hooked from beginning to end, and leaves you wanting more. Ailsa is a character that you will want to protect and see succeed at every turn because there is something so vulnerable about her even though she is as tough as any warrior. I became invested in Ailsa and longed for more for her than what she had come to accept. The setting is very detailed and I fully enjoyed this new land of myth and legends as it came to life in front of my eyes. There are secrets and subterfuge, friendship and lies, and so much more in THE STONE OF DESTINY by Caroline Logan which makes it the perfect addition to any fantasy and YA fans bookshelf. ABOUT THIS BOOK This Christmas, the villagers of Middledip are off on a very Swiss adventure… Family means everything to Lily and Zinnia Cortez and, growing up in their non-conventional family unit, they and their two mums couldn’t have been closer. So it’s a bolt out of the blue when Lily finds her father wasn’t the anonymous one-night stand she’s always believed. She is in fact the result of her mum's reckless affair with a married man. Confused, but determined to discover her true roots, Lily sets out to find the family she’s never known – an adventure that takes her from the frosted, thatched cottages of Middledip to the snow-capped mountains of Switzerland, via a Christmas market or two along the way… MY REVIEW With her signature style, Sue Moorcroft has created a wonderful world of Christmas markets, new friendships, and possible romance, all topped off with loveable characters that will feel like best friends by the end. Lily and Zinnia have always known that their parentage wasn't traditional but when Lily discovers the truth about her father and soon realises that she may have more family out there in this world, it changes her mindset and she is determined to uncover the truth. From the gorgeous, community-centred Middledip to the wild beauty of Switzerland, can Lily find what she is looking for? And is love a possibility with someone close to home? LET IT SNOW by Sue Moorcroft blew me away with its stunning descriptions and I felt the scenes come alive around me as I read which is no easy feat for a writer. The characters are fresh and engaging and there is never a dull moment in this story as I was swept along with Lily as she discovered more about herself as well as her family. There is magic, love, high emotions, and everything you could possibly wish for in LET IT SNOW and I had to fight the urge to climb up into the attic and take down the Christmas tree as this story really got me into the perfect festive mood. LET IT SNOW by Sue Moorcroft is excellent in every way and as always I will be on tenterhooks waiting for the next novel from one of my favourite authors. AUTHOR BIO Sue Moorcroft is a Sunday Times bestselling author and has held the coveted #1 spot in the Amazon Kindle chart. She's also a bestseller in Germany. ABOUT THIS BOOK It’s the most wonderful time of the year… but not for Angie Martinelli… Having lost her boyfriend, job, and apartment all in the space of a week, Angie has no choice but to leave California and return to her family in New England. Determined not to let life weigh her down, Angie finds work at the local mall where she worked as a teenager. After an embarrassing run-in with a handsome stranger, Nick, she’s convinced her luck is about to change. But Nick has secrets of his own… and as the first flakes of snow begin to fall, Angie can’t help but wonder if she’ll ever find love. MY REVIEW First of all, I have to mention the stunning cover of this book which is equally matched by the warm and festive story that lies within - this is the kind of cover that really catches your eye and I found myself looking at it from time to time, just because it gave me all the warm feels. Now for the story which is sure to keep you hooked from the very beginning. Angie Martinelli thought that she had left her childhood home behind her and had the kind of life she had always dreamed of in California - great career as an event planner, a sexy boyfriend that she would one day marry, and a lovely place to call home. But in the blink of an eye, she loses it all. Her boyfriend turned out to be a turd and because he was her boss she couldn't work for him anymore, and that is why she finds herself returning to her mum's for Christmas. With her grandparents also living there, it isn't long before everyone is getting under each other's feet but Angie has to admit that she has missed her family, and her best friend, Reese, who is about to have her first baby. But money doesn't grow on trees and it looks like her old job at the mall when she was a teenager, may just be the best thing for her at the moment. It doesn't hurt that there is a very handsome stranger there, Nick, with whom a little spark seems to be burning. As Angie throws herself into the season, helping others as much as she can, it isn't long before Angie and Nick cannot deny the attraction between them, but is it too soon for romance? And should Angie open her heart to someone who appears to be hiding something? Fabulously entertaining, brimming with festive kindness and spirit, WRAPPED UP FOR CHRISTMAS by Katlyn Duncan is the perfect Christmas read. There is laughter, tears, and everything in between in this story, and kindness is the key in this lovely tale. The characters are very likeable and relatable, and I loved the different relationships that centred around Angie, from her family to her friends. Nick is also really likeable and I felt for him and his family situation which weighed heavy on him. WRAPPED UP FOR CHRISTMAS by Katlyn Duncan has got it all and I cannot wait to read more from this wonderful author. AUTHOR BIO Coming from a small town in Western Mass, Katlyn Duncan always had her head in the clouds. Working as a scientist for most of her adult life, she enjoyed breaking down the hows and whys of life. As a full-time author and freelance writer, she’s published eight novels in four years.
