ABOUT THIS BOOK As the snowflakes start to fall, the village of Holly Cove welcomes a new tenant to the beautiful old cottage on the beach... For lifestyle magazine journaist Tia Armstrong, relationships, as well as Christmas, have lost all their magic. Yet Tia is up against a Christmas deadline for her latest article 'Love is, actually, all around'... So Tia heads to Holly Cove where the restorative sea air, and rugged stranger Nic, slowly but surely start mending her broken heart. Tia didn't expect a white Christmas, and she certainly never dared dream that all her Chiristmas wishes might just come true... MY REVIEW Where do I start with what has to be one of my favourite festive stories ever?! Beautifully depicted, with characters that will swallow up your heart, it is difficult to put into words just how special SNOWFLAKES OVER HOLLY COVE by Lucy Coleman really is but I will try. Tia Armstrong has lost her mum, the one constant person in her world, and is struggling to get back into the swing of her old life. So when her boss gives her an assignment in the quiet seaside town of Holly Cove, she jumps at the chance to escape her memories and throw herself into writing this article which centres around love and all the different ways it can be kept alive. It is not long before Tia makes new friends, from the housekeeper to the man living on the beach, and even the handsome owner of the beach cottage where she is staying. As Tia settles into her new role she starts to see the true meaning of love and friendship but like all things in life it is rarely plain sailing, and with plenty of misunderstandings and strong emotions at play, will Tia find what she needs to move on and be happy? The setting is sublime and the author has a real knack for painting the perfect picture for the reader. I loved all of the characters in this story and would love to see more from them in the future, and I found myself reading the final chapters quite slowly because I didn't want to leave them behind when I turned the last page. There are moments that will make you laugh out loud and there are moments where you will be scrambling for the tissues, but there will never be a moment where you regret picking up this book. SNOWFLAKES OVER HOLLY COVE by Lucy Coleman is everything you want and more from a novel, not just a Christmas novel, and I highly recommend it to fiction fans the world over. I can't wait to read what's next from Lucy Coleman! ABOUT THIS BOOK Christmas is coming but it doesn’t feel that way for Esme Greenwood. Recently jilted by her cheating fiancee Warren, she’s had enough of London life and escapes to Thimble Cottage in the Peak District, home of her beloved grandmother Matilda. While Esme mourns for the wedding she’ll never have, Matilda puts her granddaughter back together again with comforting words and generous helpings of fruitcake and together, they plan the trip of a lifetime, to Lapland to see the northern lights, somewhere Matilda has always dreamt of going. But tragedy strikes and when Matilda dies, Esme screws up the courage to go on the trip on her own to honour her beloved grandmother’s wishes. At the airport she meets a motley crew of characters including Zach, a handsome, brooding, out-of- work actor and together they set off for an adventure. Beneath the indigo skies of Lapland, Esme and Zach grow closer. But when Esme is bombarded by messages from Warren promising he’s changed and she discovers that Zach is hiding something very significant - will her head be turned? And when a trip to the northern lights reveals the full extent of Zach’s own secret past, is there any hope that Esme will get the happy ending that her grandmother wished for her? MY REVIEW THE CHRISTMAS WISH by Tilly Tennant is an emotional journey about self-worth, relationships and finding your path, all taking place in a stunning Christmas setting. Esme Greenwood has lost her relationship with her parents and her friends, all in her effort to keep her fiancé Warren content and happy, but when she discovers something awful, Esme escapes to her grandmother's house in the countryside for some rest and relaxation. When tragedy strikes, Tilly finds herself on a solo trip to Lapland where she makes new friends and begins to really look at her life and what she wants from love and the future, but as Warren pulls out all of the stops to lure her back to him, will she be strong enough to make herself heard? And what about the feelings she gets around her new friend Zach, who seems to be hiding secrets of his own? Compelling, gripping, and at times, so frustrating, THE CHRISTMAS WISH by Tilly Tennant kept my eyes glued to the page from beginning to end. The characters are engaging and you will care about them so much, and even though there were many times where I wanted to scream at Esme to open her eyes, you will feel invested in their story. The setting is breathtaking and is a character in its own right, and I felt like a child again when reading about Santa's village. THE CHRISTMAS WISH by Tilly Tennant is a wonderful tale and is definitely worth reading this Winter. AUTHOR BIO Tilly Tennant was born in Dorset, the oldest of four children, but now lives in Staffordshire with a family of her own. After years of dismal and disastrous jobs, including paper plate stacking, shop girl, newspaper promotions and waitressing (she never could carry a bowl of soup without spilling a bit), she decided to indulge her passion for the written word by embarking on a degree in English and creative writing, graduating in 2009 with first class honours. She wrote her first novel in 2007 during her first summer break at university and has not stopped writing since. She also works as a freelance fiction editor, and considers herself very lucky that this enables her to read many wonderful books before the rest of the world gets them. ABOUT THIS BOOK She gave up on romance years ago. He’s going through the motions. Their lives change forever when he makes contact out of the blue. With her daughter leaving the nest, Michelle Cameron would rather spend her time with good friends, a glass of fizzy and a box set, than with another idiot bloke chipping away at her self-esteem. But when childhood friend Daniel Helmsley gets back in touch, the years roll away on a tide of laughter and friendship, which soon gives way to another roller coaster of love, excitement and panic. Can Michelle let herself trust again? What if Dan is just another idiot bloke, disillusioned with the present and nostalgic for the past? MY REVIEW PICTURES IN THE SKY by Amanda Paull is a complicated story of friendship, loss, love, and self-belief with some funny moments along the way. The only time that Michelle has ever stood up for herself was when she left her ex-husband all those years ago and moved back home with her baby girl. Now her baby is all grown up and Michelle doesn't trust in love anymore. But when an old childhood friend, Dan, gets in touch she feels safe and secure that he is one of the good guys, even if he is living in an unhappy marriage. As life becomes more complicated and drama seems to be waiting around every turn, will Michelle be able to find her inner strength and face life head on? PICTURES IN THE SKY by Amanda Paull is an unusual story in that I didn't really like Michelle but I was still fascinated by what was happening in her life and the choices that she was making. This is a slow-paced book with a lot of detail so if you like a quick romantic fix this might not be for you. There is lots of drama, confusion, hurt feelings, and figuring things out in PICTURES IN THE SKY by Amanda Paull and while it is a sequel, it can easily be read as a standalone story. A good solid read. AUTHOR BIO Amanda Paull is a writer of humorous romantic fiction. She lives in the North East of England with her husband and works in the public sector. The inspiration for her stories comes from real life, which she tries to show the funnier side of by embellishing to the hilt. ABOUT THIS BOOK It's the day after Christmas, and Felicity Grant is at a gorgeous ski chalet in St. Moritz for the biggest fashion show of her career. Felicity is a rising star on the bridal design scene, and this is her best collection yet. But when her boyfriend gives her a spa day instead of a diamond ring for Christmas, she has to face the possibility that she may never walk down the aisle in one of her own stunning designs. And then there's Nell, the top model headlining Felicity's show. Nell is planning her dream wedding to her wonderful fiance with one catch: her divorced parents can't stand each other and threaten to no-show if the other is there. Add to that Felicity's race against the clock to create a special gown for a prestigious bridal salon, and what both girls need is a Christmas miracle. What better place to find one than in the Swiss Alps with its dark forests and sparkling vistas? But for Felicity it's hard to recognize a miracle even when it's right in front of her, and for Nell one miracle might not be enough to fix the past. Can dreams really come true or is that the stuff of Swiss fairytales? MY REVIEW CHRISTMAS AT THE CHALET by Anita Hughes is a solid Christmas read with a setting that will take your breath away. Felicity Grant and her bridal designs are beginning to hit the big time and a star-studded fashion show in stunning St. Moritz the day after Christmas will be the rocket that launches her into greatness. Everything she ever wanted is at her fingertips but when her long-term boyfriend suggests that they take a break because he is unsure if he wants to get married, it throws Felicity into a tailspin. Injuring herself, she finds herself spending a lot of time with the local doctor who is beginning to make her realise that maybe her relationship wasn't the fairy tale she thought it was. Add in models who want to have some fun, and another model whose parents are causing her nothing but headaches, and there seems to be a lot of drama in this beautiful place. Can Felicity make her dreams come true in all aspects of her life? The setting in this story is my favourite part and the author has a wonderful way of drawing you into the magic of St. Moritz. I enjoyed the characters and have to say that Nell is my favourite. There is a lot going on and some parts of the book were a little bit slower than I would have liked, but overall, I enjoyed CHRISTMAS AT THE CHALET by Anita Hughes. AUTHOR BIO Anita Hughes was born in Sydney, Australia. She attended UC Berkeley's Masters in Creative Writing program. She is the author of MONARCH BEACH, MARKET STREET, LAKE COMO, FRENCH COAST, ROME IN LOVE, ISLAND IN THE SEA, SANTORINI SUNSETS, CHRISTMAS IN PARIS, WHITE SAND, BLUE SEA, EMERALD COAST, CHRISTMAS IN LONDON and CALIFORNIA SUMMER published by St. Martin's Press. ABOUT THIS BOOK Angela Carson wants nothing more than to be the third-generation to run her family’s holiday store, Heart of Christmas, successfully. They’ve weathered over sixty tourist seasons, major hurricanes, and urban sprawl, in their old decommissioned lighthouse. But the national chain that set up shop in their small North Carolina town of Pleasant Sands may be more than Heart of Christmas can survive. Geoff Paisley has been at his mother’s side running the mega-chain Christmas Galore for the last ten years. When his mother falls ill, Geoff promises to answer the town’s Dear Santa letters in her stead. Soon he realizes the woman he’s been corresponding with on Dear Santa is Angela. How could the woman that grates his every last nerve in person have intrigued him so deeply through those letters? Encouraged by her niece to ask Santa for help, Angela gives in and lets the words fly in a way that, if Santa were real, would no doubt land her on the naughty list. What’s the harm when it’s just a computer-generated response? When Geoff reveals that he’s her Dear Santa, will Angela be able to set aside their very public feud to embrace the magic of the holiday and possibly find true love? MY REVIEW DEAR SANTA by Nancy Naigle is like a Hallmark movie in book form and will warm your heart. Angela Carson believes in family legacy and will do whatever it takes to keep her special shop, Heart of Christmas, open. But things are on the decline and with a new Christmas superstore open in town, her sales just seem to be getting worse. Determined to make her grandmother proud, Angela is ready to fight, even if that means ignoring the attraction that seems to spark between her and her new arch-enemy, Geoff. Maybe her niece's idea of emailing Santa for help isn't such a bad one ... While a little bit slow in pace for me, I did really enjoy the characters and setting of DEAR SANTA by Nancy Naigle. Angela was abandoned by her dad after her mum died and refuses to abandon the store which was such a huge part of her life and her bond with her grandmother. It was great to see Angela grow as a character and take a look at her life and figure out what she really wants and needs to be fulfilled. Geoff and his mother are great characters too and I enjoyed their dynamic and seeing Geoff open his eyes to the fact that there is more to life than working all the time. If you enjoy very sweet, small-town Christmas romances, then DEAR SANTA by Nancy Naigle is the book for you. AUTHOR BIO USA TODAY Bestselling author, Nancy Naigle, writes love stories from the crossroad of small town and suspense. ABOUT THIS BOOK The past is always watching . . . Three people, leading very different lives, are about to be brought together – with devastating consequences . . . John has a perfect life, until the day his daughter goes missing. Maisie cares for her patients, but hides her own traumatic past. Miller should be an innocent child, but is obsessed with something he can’t have. They all have something in common, though none of them know it – and the truth won’t stay hidden for long . . . MY REVIEW Well, I'll just be over here picking my jaw up off the floor after reading this utterly enthralling and terrifying tale of obsession and lies. Three different characters with three different lives and three different perspectives all collide at one point to impact greatly on each other. Maisie is an ICU nurse who gives her all to her patients, always trying to help and support them and their families as much as she can. John has the perfect life with a career and a wife he loves, a daughter he adores and a baby on the way, and a few close friends that make it all complete. But when his daughter disappears, it is the only beginning of a terrifying nightmare. And then there is Miller, a child who will chill you to the bone. How are these people connected? You will have to read the book to find out but I know you won't be disappointed. The story alternates from different characters points of view which worked perfectly for me as it really opened up the characters for inspection and they were not found lacking. I tried to figure out where the story was going but I couldn't and I loved that! The tension is obvious from the beginning and it never waned or felt too pushed, and I read this book in one evening because I just had to know the truth. Twisted, dark, and deeply disturbing, LIES BETWEEN US by Ronnie Turner is an epic debut and I cannot wait for more from this author who is set for stardom in this genre. ABOUT THIS BOOK Former London journalist Elspeth Reeves is trying to carve a new life for herself in the sleepy Oxfordshire countryside until she's sent to cover the excavation of a notorious local witch's grave. Three hundred years ago, her name mixed up with murder and black magic, Agnes Levett was hanged and then buried under an immense stone, to prevent her spirit from ever rising again. Elspeth investigates but soon finds there is far more to the old tale than meets the eye, as the surrounding area is rocked by a series of mysterious and brutal murders, all of people somehow connected with the dig. She and her childhood friend DS Peter Shaw race to uncover the truth, but secrets lain buried for centuries are not easily discovered. MY REVIEW HALLOWDENE by George Mann completely blew me away and I cannot wait for more from this talented writer. After what happened before, Elspeth Reeves and DS Peter Shaw realise that sometimes there are things that occur that cannot be explained or understood, and when an archaeological dig results in a spate of murders in their usually sleepy village, they are unsure just what exactly they are up against. As new friendships are made, old friendships are tested, and Elspeth and Peter dig deeper into the history of the local witch and the community themselves, shocking secrets will become known and an evil determined on revenge will take centre stage. Hypnotic, absorbing, and utterly unputdownable, HALLOWDENE by George Mann is the perfect blend of suspense and crime with a gothic edge. There is nothing about this book that I can pick apart as everything was spot on and left me wanting more from these characters. While HALLOWDENE is the second book in this series, it can easily be read as a standalone, but the writing is that fantastic that I highly recommend you buy both (Wychwood is the first book). HALLOWDENE by George Mann is everything that you want and more from a novel and I highly recommend it to readers of every genre as there is something for everyone, and I really hope that this series is snapped up for our tv screens soon! AUTHOR BIO George Mann is an author and editor, primarily in genre fiction. He was born in Darlington, County Durham in 1978. A former editor of Outland, Mann is the author of The Human Abstract, and more recently The Affinity Bridge and The Osiris Ritual in his Newbury and Hobbes detective series, set in an alternate Britain, and Ghosts of Manhattan, set in the same universe some decades later. He wrote the Time Hunter novella "The Severed Man", and co-wrote the series finale, Child of Time. He has also written numerous short stories, plus Doctor Who and Sherlock Holmes audiobooks for Big Finish Productions. He has edited a number of anthologies including The Solaris Book of New Science Fiction, The Solaris Book of New Fantasy and a retrospective collection of Sexton Blake stories, Sexton Blake, Detective, with an introduction by Michael Moorcock.
