Victoria Langley’s world crumbles when her husband leaves, but she knows exactly where to go to mend her broken heart. The rugged shores of Cornwall will be her perfect sanctuary. In the quaint, little village of Tregollan, nestled in the sea cliffs, Victoria is drawn to Seafall Cottage, covered in vines and gracefully falling apart. Inside she finds a diary full of secrets, from 1905. Victoria is determined to unravel the diary’s mystery, but the residents of Tregollan are tight-lipped about Tilly Asprey, the cottage’s last owner. Just as she reaches a dead end, Victoria meets Adam Waters, the lawyer handling the cottage’s sale. He’s handsome, charming, and has a missing piece of the puzzle. Tilly’s diary tells a devastating love story that mirrors Victoria’s own. Can Victoria learn from Tilly’s mistakes, and give herself a second chance at love? Or is history doomed to repeat itself? An unputdownable and gorgeously romantic read about lost love and new beginnings set in the green hills and rocky cliffs of the breath-taking Cornish coast. MY REVIEW There are not enough words in the world to describe how much I love this book!! I sat down after the kids went to bed and told myself that I would read for an hour, and three hours later I was in the same position, completely engrossed in Victoria and Tilly's world, and I knew I wouldn't sleep until I reached the end. In this engaging, emotional story we meet Victoria, a successful biographer, as she faces the fact that her marriage is over and travels down to Cornwall to figure out what she wants from her future. While stumbling around the stunning scenery of Tregollan, she accidentally finds a crumbling house hidden in the cliffs and feels a deep connection to it. Impulsively she buys it, regardless of its local reputation as the cursed cottage, and when she finds a coded diary dated in the early 1900's, Victoria is determined to uncover the mystery of Tilly from the past. As the narrative returns to the past, I became really connected to Tilly and Fen, and desperately invested in their story. Even though Victoria and Tilly are separated by time, the house connects these two lost souls as Victoria begins to heal and become brave enough to go after what she wants. With new friendships, a houseboat, a sexy neighbour, and a love story from the past, THE CORNISH ESCAPE by Lily Graham is one of the best romances I have read this year. I laughed, I cried, and I loved alongside Victoria and Tilly, and with the stunning backdrop of Cornwall, this story cannot disappoint - an absolute triumph. What are you waiting for???? Go and buy it now!!! BOOK RATING - 📖📖📖📖📖 5+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++(It could just keep going...) Author Bio: Lily grew up in dusty Johannesburg, which gave her a longing for the sea that has never quite gone away; so much so that sometimes she'll find sand grouting the teaspoons, and an ocean in a teacup. She lives now in the English countryside with her husband and her sweet, slobbering bulldog Fudge, and brings her love for the sea and country-living to her fiction. Her first two novels were Amazon bestsellers, and have since been re-published by Bookouture, with The Summer Escape (previously published as An Invincible Summer) and A Cornish Christmas (previously published as The Postcard) out now, her third novel set in Cornwall will be out in April. Book length - 276 pages Book Depository - www.bookdepository.com Amazon UK - Faithless Oslo Detectives Amazon US - www.amazon.com Orenda Books - www.orendabooks.co.uk BLURB Oslo detectives Gunnarstranda and Frølich are back … and this time, it’s personal… When the body of a woman turns up in a dumpster, scalded and wrapped in plastic, Inspector Frank Frølich is shocked to discover that he knows her … and their recent meetings may hold the clue to her murder. As he ponders the tragic events surrounding her death, Frølich’s colleague Gunnarstranda investigates a disturbingly similar cold case involving the murder of a young girl in northern Norway and Frølich is forced to look into his own past to find the answers – and the killer – before he strikes again. Dark, brooding and utterly chilling, Faithless is a breath-taking and atmospheric page-turner that marks the return of an internationally renowned and award-winning series, from one of the fathers of Nordic Noir. MY REVIEW This is my first foray into the genre of Nordic Noir and I wasn't exactly sure what to expect, but I certainly didn't expect such an atmospheric, hauntingly tense journey of murder, lies, and dark, disturbing characters. Frølich is trying to unravel the murder of a young woman, who just happened to be engaged to a childhood friend of his, Karl Anders, whom he hadn't seen in twenty years. With strange friendships and plenty of secrets, it seems the more Frølich digs into the victim's life, the more confusing the case becomes. At the same time, a young student literally disappears into thin air, and a fellow Detective is looking into a connection with a cold case in Northern Norway. But as the clues start to stack together Frølich must confront the demons of his past if he is going to be able to unlock this chilling crime. FAITHLESS by Kjell ola dahl caught my attention immediately and kept me gripped from beginning to end. With plenty of suspense, confusion, dead ends, and seemingly unrelated circumstances, I questioned how exactly the author was going to be able to pull it all together and give a satisfactory ending - but oh my God, it did so much more! Completely taking me by surprise I definitely did not guess who was behind it all and I love that (there is nothing worse than when you figure it all out 1/3 of the way through!). The story flows effortlessly, weaving each section cleverly together with its expertly detailed settings and in-depth characters until it is seamless. FAITHLESS gave me chills aplenty and I read this book in 3 hours - yes it is that good. FAITHLESS by Kjell ola dahl is part of a series but can be read independently. This book starts a new addiction to the Nordic Noir genre for me and I cannot wait to get buying. BOOK RATING - 📖📖📖📖📖 5 Author Bio: One of the fathers of the Nordic Noir genre, Kjell Ola Dahl was born in 1958 in Gjøvik. Perfect for all fans of Fern Britton, Katie Fforde and Cathy Bramley. Following the tragic death of her beloved husband, Anna Hemingway decides it's time for a fresh start. So Anna and her three-year-old daughter Ellie move to a picture-perfect cottage in the beautiful village of Little Somerby, and when she takes over the running of the village tea shop, Ellie and Anna start to find happiness again. But things get complicated when Matthew Carter, the owner of the local cider farm, enters their lives. Throughout a whirlwind year of village fetes and ancient wassails, love, laughter, apple pie and new memories, life slowly blossoms again. But when tragedy strikes and history seems to be repeating itself, Anna must find the strength to hold onto the new life she has built. This beautiful, life-affirming debut novel marks the beginning of the Little Somerby series, and promises to make you smile, cry, reach for a cream tea, and long for a life in the perfect English countryside. MY REVIEW Having lost her husband suddenly two years ago, Anna Hemingway is ready to make a fresh start for herself and her little girl Ellie by returning back to the village of Little Somerby, her childhood home. Being close to her family and her best friend, Charlotte, feels right, and managing the local tea shop will keep her busy and give her something to get her teeth into. But as she starts to settle into her new home and her new job, there will many unexpected changes around her, and as she begins to feel the flutters of attraction for the local sexy cider-maker, who knows what the future holds. But Matthew Carter is also carrying around grief and feelings from his past and has his interfering, teenage daughter to think of. Can they survive the local gossips, move on from their past heartache, and forge something new together? THE SECOND CHANCE TEA SHOP by Fay Keenan is a delightfully entertaining romance that is perfect for an afternoon's reading. Little Somerby is a picturesque setting that I instantly fell in love with, and I became invested in Anna and Matthew as they tried to navigate emotions of grief, loss, hope, and attraction. The kids in this book shone bright from the beginning and made me laugh throughout. This book was just so easy to get into and read, and time flew by as I got lost in its pages - with cake, love, and laughter this is a book for all romance fans. BOOK RATING - 📖📖📖📖📖 5 Author Bio: Fay Keenan was born in Surrey and raised in Hampshire, before finally settling back in the West Country. When Fay is not chasing her children around or writing, she teaches English at a local secondary school. She lives with her husband of fourteen years, two daughters, a cat, two chickens and a Weimaraner called Bertie in a village in Somerset, which may or may not have provided the inspiration for Little Somerby. I am so excited to share this guest post with you all. Enjoy!!! GUEST POST FROM FAY KEENAN
Finding the real toad in the imaginary garden of Little Somerby… The first question I get asked by readers tends to be ‘are your characters based on real people?’ and I can always honestly answer no. I have vague notions of who I’d cast in a film version of the book, but that’s another post! However, that doesn’t mean that real experiences, and real places and people haven’t had an influence! Although none of my characters are actually based on anyone, I, like the majority of writers I suspect, do keep my eyes and ears open for little snippets of things that could work their way into a story. Conversations, events and the funny goings on of village life are all rich seams for a writer, and the landmarks of Little Somerby and its world are rooted in Somerset reality. A good example is what I now know was a catalyst for writing The Second Chance Tea Shop. I grew up quite close to a cider making business, and I have a very clear memory of being a teenager and going on a tour of the cider farm one day. There was something about standing in the main barn next to a collection of extremely large cider vats that felt almost magical. Thirty feet high and made of rich, dark coloured timber, they seemed timeless, eternal, and to my dreamy, imaginative teenage mind, permeated with history and romance. While the other girls on the tour giggled and jumped out at each other from behind the vats, I remember being very still, thinking, dreaming of the stories these huge vats could tell if they could speak. I suppose it might have been destiny! I remembered that moment, many years later when I was a fully grown mother of two small children of my own, albeit still a bit of a dreamer, and that memory was what made me think about writing the novel. There was just something about it that called to me, and the next thing I knew I had fully realised characters walking through my mind, populating the imaginary world in my head. And while that world, especially the village of Little Somerby, is in some ways very familiar to me, and will be to anyone who knows the Somerset area, it’s imaginary enough for readers to lose themselves in, I hope, and enjoy the rural idyll for themselves! I’m pleased to say that, when I stood next to the vats again, some twenty years later, they still seemed just as magical, and I’d like to think that the tale I created from that memory is magical, too. Book length - 310 pages Book Depository - www.bookdepository.com Amazon UK - The Sisters of Blue Mountain Amazon US - www.amazon.com BLURB A sisters’ secret. A mysterious phenomenon. A murder that ties it all together. An emotional, suspenseful novel about the bond between sisters and the secrets we hold to keep our family safe, The Sisters of Blue Mountain is a thrilling mystery that hurtles towards an unexpected ending that will leave readers speechless. The small town of Mountain Springs, Pennsylvania thrives on the snow geese migration. Each year, the birds flock to the dam, and the tourists follow, filling up Linnet’s Bed and Breakfast. But one morning Linnet wakes up to discover hundreds of dead geese by the B&B and her life is thrown into the media frenzy when her father―a former ornithology professor―is asked to study the case. As the tourists cancel their plans and Linnet’s father’s health grows increasingly worse, the last thing she expects is to see her estranged sister, Myna, on her doorstep. Myna has never stayed in one place for long after running from Mountain Springs. Although she and Linnet were close growing up, a family secret broke their bond, and Myna’s return has brought back memories both sisters have tried to keep buried. When a reporter arrives in town who may have a connection to the sisters’ past, Linnet and Myna are forced to confront the event that tore them apart. But when a young professor who was assisting their father on the case turns up dead―and their father becomes the primary suspect―Linnet and Myna realize that their secret won’t stay hidden for long… MY REVIEW THE SISTERS OF BLUE MOUNTAIN by Karen Katchur is a deeply emotional tale with elements of suspense and mystery sprinkled throughout, that will keep you hooked to the very end. Linnet and Myna used to be close but when family secrets were forged, they became more distant. Now as adults, Myna lives wherever the breeze takes her, while Linnet runs the family B&B business while looking after her ageing father, a retired Professor who was always known locally as the Bird Man. When the graceful snow geese that draw tourists to the area, start to fall dead from the sky, Linnet knows that something awful is happening, and realises that the town will look to her failing father for answers. But when a younger Professor who came to help discover the cause of the strange phenomena, is found dead, it will force Linnet and Myna to confront their past, as the two mysteries converge. With an expert setting and well-developed characters, we are immersed in the relationship of Linnet and Myna, two sisters forced apart by their secret past, who struggle to reconnect at a time when they need each other most. While not always likeable, the characters are more realistic for their flaws. THE SISTERS OF BLUE MOUNTAIN by Karen Katchur is a story of family in all of its shades and depths and I enjoyed reading it. Book length - 300 pages Book Depository - www.bookdepository.com Amazon UK - Somebody's Baby: A Darling, VT Novel Amazon US - www.amazon.com BLURB Veterinarian Rory Gallagher chose a different path from his brothers, both of whom became first responders in the lovely little town of Darling, Vermont. Rory's always had an affinity for animals--and the ladies. Known for his impressive track record in breaking hearts, Rory never meant to hurt anyone; he's just never been in a hurry to settle down. It's not as if he needs to pay a visit to the town's famed Kissing Bridge to magically find love. He'll know The One when he sees her. . .right? Oaklee Ferguson is the kid sister of Rory's best friend--and, even now that she's all grown up, remains immune to the pet-doctor's charms. When she shows up at Rory's clinic late one night--devastated after hitting a stray dog with her car--Rory's so-called -bedroom eyes- are the last thing on her mind. Still, his care and kindness toward the dog, and his concern for her feelings, catches Oaklee by surprise. . .and soon the two (and rescued dog makes three!) begin to share a deep connection that neither could have ever imagined. Could it be that love has been waiting for them by the bridge all along? MY REVIEW I love this town, I love these characters, and I am so in love with this addictive series. In the third instalment, we meet Oaklee Collier, social media genius for the town of Darling, considered to have the perfect independent life. But looks can be deceiving. For underneath her tough exterior, Oaklee has a soft and vulnerable heart that is still recovering from the devastating trampling it received from her high-school sweetheart, two years ago. Knowing how small town life works, Oaklee cut herself off from those who love her, never letting anyone discover what had truly happened to her, and threw herself into her work. She doesn't need or want anyone. Not the adorably cute rescue dog that she accidentally injures, or the sexy vet, who also happens to be her childhood crush. Rory Gallagher understands that he has a reputation about town as a ladies man, but he is always honest and upfront about the fact that commitment is never going to be on his radar. Until Oaklee needs his help with a rescue dog, and he cannot stop himself thinking about his old best friend's sister. But Rory is carrying some serious baggage from his past and knows that he will only end up hurting Oaklee if he makes a move on their sizzling chemistry. But as friendship and attraction continue to get blurred, can two people who have suffered from seriously broken hearts in the past, find the strength and the bravery needed to take a leap of faith for love? Like the other books in this series, I was completely hooked from the very beginning and I did not want to stop reading until I knew how it ended. Oaklee is intelligent, smart, and caring, but has never really faced her broken past, and Rory is in a similar situation. I loved seeing them navigate their attraction and make a mess of it along the way, but I really cared about them and that, for me, is a sign of a great book. The town and community of Darling are as beautiful and compelling as ever, and I cried tears over the loveable Buster. SOMEBODY'S BABY by Donna Alward is another gem, which I have now come to expect from her, and I think everyone should read this glorious series (I really hope there will be more!) BOOK RATING - 📖📖📖📖📖 5+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Author Bio: While bestselling author Donna Alward was busy studying Austen, Eliot and Shakespeare, she was also losing herself in the breathtaking stories created by romance novelists like LaVyrle Spencer, Judith McNaught, and Nora Roberts. Several years after completing her degree she decided to write a romance of her own and it was true love! Five years and ten manuscripts later she sold her first book and launched a new career. While her heartwarming stories of love, hope, and homecoming have been translated into several languages, hit bestseller lists and won awards, her very favorite thing is when she hears from happy readers. Donna lives on Canada’s east coast with her family which includes a husband, a couple of kids, a senior dog and two crazy cats. When she’s not writing she enjoys reading (of course!), knitting, gardening, cooking…and is a Masterpiece Theater addict.
