Too bad the attractive blonde he takes to bed turns out to be both. So why can’t he forget the incredible night they spent together and move on? And why does he have this need to know the real Emmaline? MY REVIEW I loved this book!!! Sexy, exciting, and emotional TAKEN BY THE CEO by Stefanie London has got it all, and I couldn't put this book down. Emmaline Greene wasted six years of her life on her controlling, self-obsessed, cheating scumbag of an ex-husband, and is determined to make a change in her life. With a new attitude, a new job, a new life, she is well on the way of reaching her goals. So when a sexy stranger comes to her rescue, Emmaline decides to be a little scandalous and have her first one- night stand, giving herself a new identity for the evening. Knowing that she never wants another relationship, a fling seems like the perfect solution. After all, it is not like she will ever see the gorgeous Parker again... Parker Wentworth works hard and plays...well, never. A workaholic, he is now starting his new role as CEO of the family business and is determined to whip it into shape. Estranged from his family because he cannot forgive the actions of his father, Parker has closed himself off in his tightly controlled portion of the world. But when he finds Emmaline he cannot help but want more. Even though she lied to him about who she was, and the fact that she is his employee, Parker wants more of her in every possible way - except for the fact that he doesn't believe in love or relationships. Can two people overcome their damaged experiences of love, or will they walk away from each other to protect their vulnerable hearts? TAKEN BY THE CEO by Stefanie London is sizzlingly passionate and is sure to set your temperature soaring, while also creating characters that you will really care about and love. I am a huge fan of Stefanie London who is one of my go-to authors for a guaranteed wonderful reading experience, and I cannot wait for her next book. BOOK RATING - 📖📖📖📖📖 5+++++++++ Author Bio: Stefanie London is the USA Today bestselling author of over ten contemporary romances with humour, heat and heart. Growing up, Stefanie came from a family of women who loved to read. Thus, it was no surprise Stefanie was the sort of student who would read her English books before the semester started. After sneaking several literature subjects into her ‘very practical’ Business degree, she got a job in Communications. When writing emails and newsletters didn’t fulfil her creative urges, she turned to fiction and was finally able to write the stories that kept her mind busy at night. Originally from Australia, she now lives in Toronto with her very own hero and is currently in the process of doing her best to travel the world. She frequently indulges in her passions for good coffee, lipstick, romance novels and zombie movies. Book Depository - www.bookdepository.com Amazon UK - www.amazon.co.uk Amazon US - www.amazon.com BLURB Jane Dolby fell in love with a fisherman - the most dangerous peacetime occupation that exists - leading her to find a place in a traditional British world that many have forgotten. Jane was not expecting to fall in love, but she did with Colin, a local fisherman in her hometown. Then one day she faces the loss every fisherman's wife fears: the disappearance of her husband when his boat overturns at sea. Three days later, the boat is finally dredged up, without Colin. At the same time as Jane struggles with her grief, she must fight to keep a roof over her family's heads. With the help and kindness of friends and strangers, the fishing world rallies around one of their own and in time, Jane forms a plan to give something back to the community that has helped her. Jane brings together 40 women from fishing communities up and down the country to release a charity single, founding The Fishwives Choir, and gives a voice to women previously unheard. SONG OF THE SEA is the true story of one woman's love and loss, and after years in which grief stole her ability to sing, she finds her own voice again. MY REVIEW Jane is 31 when she finds herself renting 'fisherman's cottage' in Leigh-on-Sea, a single mum raising her sons, but she didn't immediately recognise the impact this move would have on her life. Slowly falling in love with a quiet, shy, fisherman called Colin, Jane finds happiness and love like never before, learning more from this man and the fishing community than she ever thought possible. But when the sea that Colin loves claims his life, Jane struggles with her grief, as well as the financial implications for those who are left behind when someone is lost at sea. While singing had always been a constant presence in her life, with Colin's death, she lost her voice and became someone else, no longer recognising herself. This is her story of love, loss, and hope in what became an inspiration around the UK & Ireland - The Fishwives Choir - as Jane and her fellow fishwives make their voices heard and help those who looked after them during their darkest times. I rarely review non-fiction but when I got the opportunity to review this book I could not pass it up. Hauntingly honest, heartbreaking, and emotional I cannot tell you how many tissues I went through while reading SONG OF THE SEA, as Jane lays her soul bare for everyone to see. But this book also offers moments of laughter (particularly the pants comment at BBC studios), a raw and honest portrayal of loss from someone who lives it, and most of all hope - hope that there is a chink of light somewhere in the darkness, in the future, where you will find a new, albeit different path. The strength and passion that The Fishwives Choir display is inspiring and their music really takes you to a different place. SONG OF THE SEA by Jane Dolby is a book that has touched my soul and inspires me to live each day for the moment and reach for the stars. Book length - 288 pages Book Depository - www.bookdepository.com Amazon UK - The Roanoke Girls Amazon US - www.amazon.com BLURB A gripping, provocative thriller about the twisted secrets families keep, perfect for fans of The Girls. Beautiful. Rich. Mysterious. Everyone wants to be a Roanoke girl. But you won't when you know the truth. Lane Roanoke is fifteen when she comes to live with her grandparents and fireball cousin at the Roanoke family's rural estate following the suicide of her mother. Over one long, hot summer, Lane experiences the benefits of being one of the rich and beautiful Roanoke girls. But what she doesn't know is being a Roanoke girl carries a terrible legacy: either the girls run, or they die. For there is darkness at the heart of Roanoke, and when Lane discovers its insidious pull, she must make her choice... MY REVIEW I'm not really sure how to start this review because this book is unlike any other I have ever read, and I want to do it justice without giving too much away. Lane ran from Roanoke and its secrets as a teenager and would never have returned if not for the disappearance of her crazy cousin Allegra. But as she tries to piece together what has happened to Allegra, Lane is forced to recognise the almost hypnotic calling Roanoke casts over the Roanoke girls, as they are known, and she hates herself for feeling connected to it in spite of everything that is wrong with it. As Lane and Allegra's past and present unfolds in front of our eyes, we also get to see the twisted past of the girls that went before, when Lane finally pieces it all together, there are even more terrifying secrets exposed. But can Lane reconcile her past and present and try to find a better future for herself with someone who loves her? Or is the lure of being a Roanoke girl enough to chain her there forever? THE ROANOKE GIRLS by Amy Engel is dark, disturbing, and deeply unsettling, where the characters and Roanoke itself take on a life of their own which kept me on edge throughout the story and left me unnerved throughout. I could not put this book down because I had to know Lane and Allegra's fate, and even when it was over and I closed the book on the final page, I could not forget about it, which is always the sign of an excellent read. THE ROANOKE GIRLS by Amy Engel is a brilliantly perturbing novel that is not for the faint-hearted, but not a thriller in the usual sense of the word. There is no one terrifying moment in this superbly written book, but rather an encroaching darkness from the very beginning that settles around you as you read. This book will be top of my list for best books of 2017, and I cannot wait to read more from Amy Engel. Book length - 338 pages Amazon UK - Pressed to Death (A Perfectly Proper Paranormal Museum Mystery) Amazon US - www.amazon.com BLURB Perfectly pressed. Perfectly proper. Perfectly deadly. Paranormal museum owner Maddie Kosloski thinks she has the perfect paranormal exhibit for the harvest festival—a haunted grape press. But before she can open the exhibit, she’s accused of stealing the antique press. And when her accuser is found murdered, all eyes turn to Maddie. Solving the crime is the last thing on Maddie’s mind, but her mother insists she investigate. Does her mother have a secret agenda? And why has the local charity, Ladies Aid, seemingly gone gangster? In this light, cozy mystery, haunted houses, runaway wine barrels, and murder combine in a perfect storm of chaos. Facing down danger and her own over-active imagination, Maddie must unearth the killer before she becomes the next ghost to haunt her museum. MY REVIEW PRESSED TO DEATH by Kirsten Weiss is an enjoyable cosy mystery with lots of intriguing characters and mayhem mixed throughout. Maddie finds herself accused of handling stolen goods in her paranormal museum, but before she can sort this confusion out, her accuser is found murdered. Urged by her mother to investigate the crime, Maddie just wants to discover the killer, but with plenty of surprises along the way, this is easier said than done, With her museum in danger and her personal life in a mess, can Maddie figure it all out before it is too late? PRESSED TO DEATH by Kirsten Weiss is the second book in this series, and while it was a little slow to start, the pace of the story did pick up later on. There are a lot of characters in this story which can be distracting at times, but overall I enjoyed this mystery. BOOK RATING - 📖📖📖 3.5 Author Bio: I worked overseas for nearly twenty years in the fringes of the former USSR, Africa, and deep in the Afghan war zone. My experiences abroad not only gave me glimpses into the darkness and light of human nature, but also sparked an interest in the effects of mysticism and mythology, and how both are woven into our daily lives. Now based in San Mateo, CA, I write genre-blending novels: urban fantasy/mystery, steampunk/suspense, and cozy mysteries with a touch of paranormal. The mix just makes things more fun! I believe that life is as magical as you want to make it. I've never met a dessert I didn’t like, and my guilty pleasures are watching Ghost Whisperer reruns and drinking red wine. Until now. Needing a change from the high-risk, high-stakes life of a bodyguard, Marcus makes a solitary life for himself running the neighborhood bar in his hometown. His only mistake? Seducing and then dumping the town’s sweetheart, Quinn Harper. Marcus knows he did the right thing—a good girl like Quinn has no business with a broken man like him. But now no one will come to his bar, and he’s watching his last chance at a peaceful life go up in smoke. So when Quinn proposes a fake four-week courtship, he can’t refuse…even though he knows it’s a bad idea. It’s a romantic charade that will buy Quinn time to distract her mother and father from their own marital problems—and will help Marcus welcome back some paying customers. But what begins as an engagement of convenience slowly transforms into a deeper connection, one that heals both of their hearts. . .and ignites the simmering passion between them. Could it be that pretending to be together is just what Quinn and Marcus needed to give their real love a second chance? MY REVIEW HOME AT LAST by Lily Everett is a wonderfully heartwarming story of love, loss, and learning to believe in yourself again, set in the stunning community of Sanctuary Island. Quinn Harper is a vibrant and likeable character who has loved Marcus since she was a child, even though he carelessly tossed her to one side after their brief relationship when he returned to the island. Now her parents are back home but they are struggling with their own relationship and Quinn will do anything to stop them from making some rash decisions like selling her childhood home or get a divorce - even make up a fictitious boyfriend. Now all she needs to do is convince Marcus to play the part... Marcus Beckett is back on Sanctuary Island hoping to make a life for himself with his new bar. But having hurt Quinn, the whole island is avoiding him and his new Inn. When Quinn informs him of her plan to save her family, while at the same time restoring his chances at making his business a success, he foolishly agrees. But as Marcus and Quinn spend more time together, it becomes harder to control the incredible heat between them. But Marcus has shut his heart off from love, as he has always lost those that mattered most, and he believes that Quinn is better off without him. Throw in a relationship guru with an ulterior motive, some standing stones, and an old relationship that needs to be confronted, and HOME AT LAST by Lily Everett is a story that will melt your heart and make you swoon in all the right places. With strong, relatable characters, magical scenery, and well-paced throughout there is never a dull moment in this story - a top read! Quinn had taken the floor for exactly the reasons she’d said, in addition to the knowledge that however little she liked to think it mattered, Marcus was ten years older than she was. And he was a secret stress case who carried all his tension in his back and shoul- ders. She should know, since she’d nearly sprained her thumbs trying to dig the knots out during a massage that had started out sexy and turned into a to-the-death battle between Quinn and the long muscles lining Marcus’s spine. Marcus didn’t need to screw up his back by lying on the floor for eight hours, was her point. Not that she would ever say that to him. She didn’t have a death wish. But as it turned out, the floor was more uncomfort- able than Quinn had anticipated. And as the hours wore down, so did her resistance to the temptation of the warm, soft bed mere inches from her stiff, aching body. She stared at Marcus’s sleeping form and wondered if she dared. Then she wondered what the hell was the matter with her. It was a bed. They were adults. Sleeping next to each other didn’t mean they were automatically going to cross some invisible, arbitrary line. She wasn’t going to roll over in her sleep and accidentally impale herself on his penis. They’d be fine. This is fine, she told herself, getting up off her shaky knees and creeping around to the other side of the bed. The way her knees popped when she stood up was a deciding factor. Quinn carefully peeled back the cov- ers and slid into the bed beside Marcus. Quinn held her breath, but he didn’t move. His broad chest rose and fell with his deep, even breaths. He threw off heat like a roaring bonfire; Quinn went from chilled to toasty in seconds. Letting her body relax into the softness of the mat- tress, she drifted peacefully into sleep. Quinn’s dreams were chaotic, flashes of memories mixed with totally random people from her past and present. She was aware they were dreams, in that vague way that happens sometimes, even when the dreamer is deeply asleep. In the dream, she and Marcus were walking through the woods behind her parents’ house, holding hands. Even Dream Quinn couldn’t suspend disbelief quite enough for that. Marcus wasn’t a hand-holding kind of guy. So she knew it was a dream, even as he led her deeper into the pine copse, their footfalls muffled by layers and layers of dried pine needles that released their evergreen scent as they were crushed. Come here, said Dream Marcus, giving Quinn the smile she’d only glimpsed once or twice—the small, private, completely unguarded smile that made Marcus look like the carefree boy Quinn had first fallen for. She could never resist that particular smile. Not that she wanted to resist. This was only a dream. She could have whatever she wanted, with no consequences. Emboldened by her freedom, Quinn followed Marcus down to lie on a bed of springy green moss. He lay back, arms crossed behind his head and more re- laxed than she’d ever seen him in real life. Sunlight dappled his handsome face, patterns of light and shadow that shivered over his cheekbones when wind fluttered through the branches overhead. Her heart swelled with all the feelings she’d been stuffing down and denying since the day Marcus un- ceremoniously ended their relationship. It wasn’t smart to care about him. She knew that, and Quinn wanted to be smart, she really did. The trouble was that she’d never learned how to stop caring about someone. Her poor, bruised heart was as optimistic and stubborn as her hungry body was when it came to Marcus Beckett. Despair teased at Quinn’s mind, but she pushed it away. This is a dream, she said aloud to remind them both. Only a dream. Beneath her, Marcus smiled again, the smile that promised things like love and forever and the kind of pleasure she could live on. Thighs tensing with need where she was suddenly straddling his hips, Quinn felt the low-down clench of her body around the emptiness only Marcus could fill. A shudder racked her, sweeping up her frame in a rush that tightened the peaks of her breasts and forced her mouth open on a gasp. Yes, like that, Marcus murmured, his eyes going hot and feral the way she remembered from their first nights of passion. The grip of his hands at her hips ex- cited Quinn. She squirmed a little, wanting to feel it, hoping it bruised so she could look in the mirror later and see the evidence of Marcus’s desire for her. With a smooth twist of his massive torso, he flipped them so that Quinn’s back was arching off the cool moss and Marcus was covering her with his body. Her legs fell open, wanton and wanting, and she relished the stretch of her thighs as he fit himself into the cra- dle of her hips. His hardness slotted against her softness with a series of rhythmic nudges that stoked the fire inside Quinn higher and higher. In the dream, her panties melted away like fog, and he was naked too, and they were pressed together so intimately and perfectly and yet, somehow, there was still something in the way, a barrier to Quinn getting what she really wanted. Frus- tration mounting, she reached down between their hot, straining bodies and felt . . . cotton? Quinn blinked and suddenly, instead of staring up at the waving pine needles of the Lantern Point woods, she was looking at the familiar starburst pattern of the plaster ceiling in her girlhood bedroom. Her immediate thought was a dismayed No, let me go back to the dream! But in the next instant, she realized Marcus was still on top of her, his hard chest and strong arms caging her in. Their legs were tangled hopelessly in the sheets and they were both still wear- ing what they’d gone to bed in, but other than that? The dream was real. Eyes still closed, Marcus twisted his hips, grinding wickedly against Quinn’s most sensitive spot and scat- tering her thoughts like dried pine needles before she could figure out what to do. She reacted mindlessly, her body taking over and bowing up hard, her arms going around Marcus’s neck. Through her haze of heated lust, Quinn saw the exact moment Marcus woke up. Book length - 320 pages Book Depository - www.bookdepository.com Amazon UK - Someone to Love: A Darling, VT Novel Amazon US - www.amazon.com BLURB SOME WISHES DO COME TRUE Ethan Gallagher is a firefighter in Darling, Vermont, who followed tradition and pledged his love on the Kissing Bridge to ensure lifelong happiness. A few years later, he's a widower with two rambunctious boys who no longer believes in magic. But even he has to admit that free-spirited Willow Dunaway fills him with wonder and an attraction he cannot deny. Willow's come back to Darling a different girl than the one who left after high school. Overcoming her past and owning her own business has made her into a strong, independent woman. Single dad Ethan appeals to her in a way she didn t expect, even though settling down is the last thing on her mind. But after fire destroys the local food bank, the town rallies, and a fling between Ethan and Willow leads to unintended consequences. Can they find a way out of their heartbreak to make a home in each other's hearts? MY REVIEW SOMEONE TO LOVE by Donna Alward is a beautiful, emotional tale about love, loss, and allowing your heart to heal from the heartbreak of the past. Willow Dunaway has come a long way since her teenage years. Living away from Darling gave her the space she needed to deal with the devastating memories from her past, but since she has returned to her childhood home, she feels a peace and serenity like never before. With her business doing well and close friends who are always there for her, Willow no longer feels the echoing loneliness that haunted her for so many years. But when she comes into contact with a sexy firefighter, Ethan Gallagher, her relaxed world is turned upside down. The last thing that she needs is a handsome brooding man who disapproves of her. Ethan Gallagher lost his love for life when his wife died almost two years ago, and while he does everything he needs to for his two precious little boys, he has accepted the fact that happiness is out of reach. But when Willow is around he cannot help but feel more positive about everything, and that annoys him beyond belief. Especially because she stirs feelings of passion within him that he thought were no longer possible, and she is just so damn giving and compassionate to everyone around her. But just as they begin to embark on something more than just friendship, an unexpected turn in the road will turn their lives upside down. As harsh words are said can Ethan and Willow let go of their fears and embrace the possibility of a future together? Or is taking a chance on loving somebody not worth the risk? Yet again, Donna Alward takes us on a beautiful heartwarming journey to the close-knit community of Darling, Vermont. Willow and Ethan are complex characters who have very different approaches to life but yet share some heartbreaking similarities - loss, loneliness, grief for something that should have been. Willow has learned to deal with her past but has always maintained a safe distance from relationships, while Ethan never expects to find happiness again and fights it when he does. Together, with the help of some of Darling's loveable characters, SOMEONE TO LOVE by Donna Alward weaves a sincere tale that will bring tears to your eyes, and make you hot under the collar as their intense connection is off the charts! SOMEONE TO LOVE by Donna Alward is the perfect read for contemporary romance fans everywhere and I cannot wait for the next instalment. BOOK RATING - 📖📖📖📖📖 5++++++ Author Bio: While bestselling author Donna Alward was busy studying Austen, Eliot and Shakespeare, she was also losing herself in the breathtaking stories created by romance novelists like LaVyrle Spencer, Judith McNaught, and Nora Roberts. Several years after completing her degree she decided to write a romance of her own and it was true love! Five years and ten manuscripts later she sold her first book and launched a new career. While her heartwarming stories of love, hope, and homecoming have been translated into several languages, hit bestseller lists and won awards, her very favorite thing is when she hears from happy readers. Donna lives on Canada’s east coast with her family which includes a husband, a couple of kids, a senior dog and two crazy cats.
