Book length - 336 pages Book Depository - www.bookdepository.com Amazon UK - The Breakdown: The 2017 gripping thriller from the bestselling author of Behind Closed Doors Amazon US - www.amazon.com BLURB If you can’t trust yourself, who can you trust? Cass is having a hard time since the night she saw the car in the woods, on the winding rural road, in the middle of a downpour, with the woman sitting inside―the woman who was killed. She’s been trying to put the crime out of her mind; what could she have done, really? It’s a dangerous road to be on in the middle of a storm. Her husband would be furious if he knew she’d broken her promise not to take that shortcut home. And she probably would only have been hurt herself if she’d stopped. But since then, she’s been forgetting every little thing: where she left the car, if she took her pills, the alarm code, why she ordered a pram when she doesn’t have a baby. The only thing she can’t forget is that woman, the woman she might have saved, and the terrible nagging guilt. Or the silent calls she’s receiving, or the feeling that someone’s watching her… MY REVIEW THE BREAKDOWN by B.A. Paris is a psychological thriller that will burrow inside your head and make your pulse race. Cass' life is turned upside down when she learns that a woman whom she saw sitting in her car during a storm on her way home late one night, has been found brutally murdered. And it becomes worse when she realises that she actually knew the victim. As Cass struggles with feelings of guilt over having not done more to help, every other part of her life starts to suffer as she begins to forget things. Worried that she is taking after her deceased mother who had early onset dementia, Cass is fighting to remain calm and upbeat for her husband Matthew and her friends. But then the phone calls start. Somebody wants to scare Cass and will stop at nothing to achieve it. Convinced that the murderer has tracked her down, can Cass overcome her own issues to figure out who is out to make her their next victim? Or is it all just paranoia associated with her illness? THE BREAKDOWN by B.A. Paris is a superb piece of criminal fiction as it kept me guessing all the way through. Just when I thought I had it figured it out, something explosive would happen and throw my theory out the window. And I have never encountered such an apt title as it encompasses everything about this story. Brimming with tension, danger, and fear, this is the type of novel that really gets under your skin. Fast-paced and gripping at every page, THE BREAKDOWN by B.A. Paris cannot be missed. BOOK RATING - 📖📖📖📖📖 5+++++ Author Bio: B A Paris grew up in England but has spent most of her adult life in France. She has worked both in finance and as a teacher and has five daughters. Book length - 263 pages Book Depository - www.bookdepository.com Amazon UK - The House on Candlewick Lane (A Malice Novel) Amazon US - www.amazon.com BLURB It is every parent’s worst nightmare. Greer Dobbins’ daughter has been kidnapped—and spirited across the Atlantic to a hiding place in Scotland. Greer will do anything to find her, but the streets of Edinburgh hide a thousand secrets—including some she’d rather not face. Art historian Dr. Greer Dobbins thought her ex-husband, Neill, had his gambling addiction under control. But in fact he was spiraling deeper and deeper into debt. When a group of shady lenders threatens to harm the divorced couple’s five-year-old daughter if he doesn’t pay up, a desperate Neill abducts the girl and flees to his native Scotland. Though the trail seems cold, Greer refuses to give up and embarks on a frantic search through the medieval alleys of Edinburgh—a city as beguiling as it is dangerous. But as the nightmare thickens with cryptic messages and a mysterious attack, Greer herself will become a target, along with everyone she holds dear. MY REVIEW From the very first page, we are thrown headlong into this story of lies, betrayal, and deception, and the fast-paced energy continues all the way through to the end. When Greer realises that her ex-husband Neil has taken their little girl and absconded to Scotland, she has never known fear like it. Determined to find them, she arrives in Edinburgh and begins the search. With the help of her sometimes infuriating sister, her sister's boyfriend, and a new acquaintance, nothing is going to stop Greer from rescuing her daughter. But they soon realise that this is a lot more complex and dangerous than they could ever believe. Will Greer ever see her little girl again? Can she truly trust those around her? And what has Neil's horrible family and the house on Candlewick Lane got to do with all of this? THE HOUSE ON CANDLEWICK LANE by Amy M. Reade brings the city and ambience of Edinburgh alive, and the story is a great blend of art, history, and mystery. At times I was frustrated with the main character of Greer, and at certain points the plot was a little unclear, but overall, I enjoyed this unusual mystery novel. While enjoying a romantic candlelit dinner with her fiance, Ryan, at one of Seattle's chicest restaurants, Kailey Crane can't believe her good fortune: She has a great job as a writer for the Herald and is now engaged to a guy who is perfect in nearly every way. As they leave the restaurant, Kailey spies a thin, bearded homeless man on the sidewalk. She approaches him to offer up her bag of leftovers, and is stunned when their eyes meet, then stricken to her very core: The man is the love of her life, Cade McAllister. When Kailey met Cade ten years ago, their attraction was immediate and intense everything connected and felt "right." But it all ended suddenly, leaving Kailey devastated. Now the poor soul on the street is a faded version of her former beloved: His weathered and weary face is as handsome as Kailey remembers, but his mind has suffered in the intervening years. Over the next few weeks, Kailey helps Cade begin to piece his life together, something she initially keeps from Ryan. As she revisits her long-ago relationship, Kailey realizes that she must decide exactly what and whom she wants. Alternating between the past and the present, Always is a beautifully unfolding exploration of a woman faced with an impossible choice, a woman who discovers what she's willing to save and what she will sacrifice for true love. MY REVIEW Kailey Crane met the love of her life, music mogul Cade McAllister, when she was in her twenties, and could never imagine a life without him. Now it is years later and Kailey has finally managed to move on. Engaged to Ryan, a loving and caring man, and writing for the Herald, Kailey knows that she is lucky. But when she tries to help a homeless man and stares into his eyes, her world is turned upside down. After all these years she has found Cade, broken, beaten, and unaware of who she is. Determined to help save the man that meant everything to her, she gets him medical help and together they begin to piece together what happened on the night he disappeared all those years ago. But as the Cade she knew tries desperately to find himself and his memories, is Kailey willing to sacrifice her new life and future for the ghosts of the past? ALWAYS by Sarah Jio is an emotional, heartfelt novel of love and loss, bringing the reality of homelessness in all of its complexity to the forefront. But when a dead body washes up on the shores of Lake Michigan clutching her business card, Eden’s well-constructed world begins to fall apart. Apparently, she’s not the only one with a passion for payback, and staying alive to outsmart a killer has become her most important job of all. A Game for a Game Hardened homicide detective Kelly Riordan is convinced Eden Smith is hiding more than she’s willing to admit. Years on the force have taught him that nothing is what it seems, and that couldn’t be truer than when it comes to investigating the alluring owner of a revenge-for-hire business. But revealing her past could put everything Eden has worked for in jeopardy. And trusting a man like Riordan goes against the very instincts that have kept her alive this long. I am very lucky to have a sneaky excerpt to whet your appetite. Happy reading!! Excerpt: Kelly’s phone chirped, and he frowned, slipping it from the pocket of his jeans. A glance at the caller ID, and he jerked to attention. “Holy shit.” He knew that number. It’d been the bane of existence for the past forty-eight hours. Archer lifted his brows. “Problem?” Holding up his hand, Kelly thumbed the screen. Whether or not this call qualified as a problem was still up for grabs. “Riordan.” “I heard you’ve been looking for me, Detective.” The voice was female, soft, held a slight hint of humor. Yep. He raked his hand through his hair. This was gonna be a problem, all right. “I hope you don’t mind that I called.” His brows jacked toward his hairline. Mind that she called? What the hell was she trying to pull? For Christ’s sake, the woman had not only located his private number, she’d dialed it and then acted like calling him was no big deal. Meanwhile, he’d only spent the last two days driving himself nuts trying to figure out her loca-- His eyes slammed shut. But, of course, she already knew that. Which could only mean she also knew his efforts at trying to find her had resulted in a dead end. So she’d called him. A power play to establish right from the get-go exactly who was in charge. Nice move, Dirty Deeds. Bitchy, but nice. “Are you there? Maybe I’ve called at a bad time. If you want, I can always—” “No, no, I’m here.” He locked onto Archer and wrote an invisible line through the air, signaling for him to get some paper and a pen. Kelly cleared his throat. “How can I help you, Miss…?” She laughed. Smooth, low. Like a shot of barrel-aged whiskey had just slid down her throat. “I think the question you meant to ask is how can I help you.” Dammit. Huge problem. Huge, huge problem. Not to mention, she seemed to be enjoying this game she’d cooked up. A game she played without giving him the parameters. “Had I known it would be this easy to get your assistance, I would’ve started asking questions about you a long time ago.” It was a stupid thing to say since he hadn’t even known she existed until Monday night, but based on the way her husky laugh brushed his ear like a feather, she got the point. “Very good, Detective. At ten o’clock tonight, I’ll be at 17 South State Street on the twenty-first floor, room 4-B. I’ll give you ten minutes.” She paused. “Funny, I was about to say come alone, but I know you won’t. Besides, that sounds corny. Even for me.” The line disconnected. Kelly lowered the phone and stared at the screen. On impulse, he hit *69 to dial back the number, but a weird busy signal repeatedly beeped in his ear. Yep. He’d just been spanked and, at the same time, something about her… Damn, the woman had him intrigued. MY REVIEW
Eden Smith has moved on from her tough childhood and is thoroughly content in her career running a unique agency that specialises in serving up revenge for those who need it. Naturally, discretion is key so when the body of a young woman clutching her business card washes up on the beach, Eden is very troubled. And as it becomes obvious that somebody wants some payback of their own and Eden is the target, is there anyone in this city that she can trust? Detective Kelly Riordan knows when someone is hiding something from him, and Miss Smith is certainly lying to him. But as the danger surrounding her and her business becomes more clear, will they be able to work together to take down a killer?
