ABOUT THIS BOOK Born centuries apart. Bound by a love that defied time. Madison Berger is visiting Dublin with her family for a Viking re-enactment festival, when she chances upon a small knife embedded in the banks of the Liffey. Maddie recognises what the runes on the knife's handle signify: the chance to have her own adventures in the past. Maddie only intends to travel back in time briefly, but a skirmish in 9th century Dublin results in her waking up on a ship bound for Iceland, with the man who saved her from attack. Geir Eskilsson has left his family in Sweden to boldly carve out a life of his own. He is immediately drawn to Maddie, but when he learns of her connection to his sisters-in-law, he begins to believe that Fate has played a part in bringing them together. Amidst the perils that await on their journey to a new land, the truest battle will be to win Maddie's heart and convince her that the runes never lie... MY REVIEW Exceptional characters that I completely fell in love with and historical detail that blew my mind, and I have to say that TEMPTED BY THE RUNES by Christina Courtenay is my favourite book in this series, and one of my favourite historical romance novels of all time! Madison Berger is on holiday with her family in Dublin for a Viking re-enactment festival and is throwing herself into the spirit of the whole thing, reading runes and dressing the part. But she cannot help feel a little lost in her life and when she finds a knife that holds the magic of time-travel that seems to choose her family, she is excited about an adventure. But landing back in the past and getting attacked was not exactly what she expected. Well able to take care of herself, she is still grateful for the Viking man that helps her but when she finds herself bound for Iceland, she is determined to get back to her family as soon as she can. Geir Eskilsson understands that time-travel is possible as his brothers have both found love and happiness this way. When he helps Maddie and takes her with him to a new land where he hopes to make his own settlement, it isn't long before he starts to have feelings for her and believes that she was sent by the Gods to be his wife. But Maddie has other ideas and while she is very capable in the ways of the past, she struggles with some of the traditions and ways that are cruel and inhumane in her world. As Geir and Maddie grow closer, can love find a way through their differences? And when all seems lost can Geir show Maddie that he loves her more than anything or anyone? TEMPTED BY THE RUNES by Christina Courtenay is simply stunning and I devoured this book in one evening as I could not put it down. Maddie is a fantastic character - strong, feisty, intelligent, and compassionate - and I loved watching her blossom into who she wants to be and find her path in life. Geir is kind, strong, and unwavering in his love for Maddie and those that he leads, and I desperately wanted him to find happiness with the love of his life. An excellent story that transported me back in time and made my heart beat faster, TEMPTED BY THE RUNES by Christina Courtenay is a must-read. AUTHOR INFO Christina Courtenay is an award-winning author of historical romance and time slip (dual time) stories. She started writing so that she could be a stay-at-home mum to her two daughters, but didn't get published until daughter number one left home aged twenty-one, so that didn't quite go to plan! Since then, however, she's made up for it by having eleven novels published and winning the RNA's Romantic Novel of the Year Award for Best Historical Romantic Novel twice with Highland Storms (2012) and The Gilded Fan (2014), and once for Best Fantasy Romantic Novel with Echoes of the Runes(2021). Christina is half Swedish and grew up in that country. She has also lived in Japan and Switzerland, but is now based in Herefordshire, close to the Welsh border. She's a keen amateur genealogist and loves history and archaeology (the armchair variety). A new series that sounds utterly compelling! Here's everything you need to know: About These Books The Wrong Sort To Die June 1910. Fighting her corner in a man’s world, Dr Margaret Demeray works as a pathologist in a London hospital for the poor. Suppressing her worry that she’s breaching confidentiality, Margaret gives a stranger called Fox information about a dead down-and-out, in the hope he’ll use it to raise awareness of bad working conditions. But when a second man appears to die the same way, Margaret starts to wonder why the enigmatic Fox keeps turning up to ask ever more complex questions. She decides to work alone, uncertain of his motives and wary of her attraction to him. Once she starts investigating however, her home is burgled, she’s attacked in broad daylight and a close friend becomes distant. Fox offers the chance to forge an alliance, saying he knows why the men have died but needs her to find out what is killing them and who is behind it. Yet how come the closer she gets to him the more danger she faces? And how can a memory she’d buried possibly be linked to the deaths? Margaret must discover the truth before someone - known or unknown - silences her for good. Death In The Last Reel Does the camera ever lie? 1911: After the violent murder of three policemen in the line of duty, tensions between London constabulary and Whitechapel anarchists simmer. Meanwhile accusations and counter accusations of espionage further weaken relations between Germany and Britain. Can Margaret Demeray and Fox find out which potential enemy is behind a threat to the capital before it’s too late? In the shadow of violence in the East End, just as Dr Margaret Demeray starts to gain recognition for her pathology work, a personal decision puts her career at the hospital under threat. Needing to explore alternative options, she tries working with another female doctor in Glassmakers Lane. But in that genteel street, a new moving-picture studio is the only thing of any interest, and Margaret’s boredom and frustration lead to an obsessive interest in the natural death of a young woman in a town far away. Meanwhile intelligence agent Fox is trying to establish whether rumours of a major threat to London are linked to known anarchist gangs or someone outside Britain with a different agenda. When another mission fails and he asks Margaret to help find out who provided the false intelligence that led him in the wrong direction, she can’t wait to assist. But enquiries in wealthy Hampstead and then assaults in Whitechapel backstreets lead unexpectedly back to Glassmakers Lane. How can such a quiet place be important? And is the dead young woman Margaret can't forget a critical link or a coincidental irrelevance? Margaret and Fox need to work together; but both of them are independent, private and stubborn, and have yet to negotiate the terms of their relationship. How can Margaret persuade Fox to stop protecting her so that she can ask the questions he can’t? And even if she does, how can they discover is behind the threat to London when it’s not entirely clear what the threat actually is? ABOUT THIS BOOK What do you do when your fake engagement starts to feel too real… Aspiring clothes designer Victoria Scott spends her days working in a bar in Chelsea, and her evenings designing vintage clothes, dreaming of one day opening her own boutique. But these aspirations are under threat from the new department store opening at the end of her road. She needs a Christmas miracle, but one is not forthcoming. Oliver Russell’s Christmas is not looking very festive right now. His family’s new London department store opening is behind schedule, and on top of that his interfering, if well meaning, mother is pressing him to introduce his girlfriend to her. A girlfriend who does not exist. He needs a diversion. Something to keep his mother from interfering while he focuses on the business. When Oliver meets Victoria, he offers a proposition: pretend to be his girlfriend at the opening of his store and he will provide an opportunity for Victoria to showcase her designs. But what starts as a business arrangement soon becomes something more tempting, as the fake relationship starts to feel very real. But when secrets in Victoria’s past are exposed will Oliver walk away, or will they both follow their hearts and find what neither knew they were looking for… MY REVIEW A handsome entrepreneur in need of a fake girlfriend, a struggling fashion designer who needs her break, and plenty of mishaps and twists along the way, and you have MEET ME IN LONDON by Georgia Toffolo. Victoria Scott is a fashion designer who has the talent and the drive but is just waiting on the success part. Working in a bar while trying to get her big break is exhausting but she is determined to find a way. When she meets Oliver, who just happens to be running a London department store, his family business, fate may have just stepped in to play for them both. Oliver is facing pressure from his family to settle down and get married and he needs someone to pretend to be his girlfriend, so he can get on with the business of running an empire. In return, Victoria would get to showcase her designs in his store. A simple transaction that will benefit them both. But life never really runs smoothly and as they spend more time together, what started as a business deal becomes so much more complicated, and when past secrets come to light, will they walk away from what could be their happily-ever-after? MEET ME IN LONDON is a lovely story with enjoyable characters that I fell in love with as I got to know them. The world of fashion and department stores worked perfectly for me and added a spark of magic to Oliver and Victoria's love story. While romance is a huge part of this book, there are also beautiful moments of friendship and camaraderie which warmed my heart. MEET ME IN LONDON by Georgia Toffolo is a wonderful read and I look forward to reading more in this series. AUTHOR INFO Georgia Toffolo is a broadcaster and TV personality. She has been a firm favourite with the public right from the start of her TV debut, Made in Chelsea, all the way to winning over the hearts of I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here fans by being crowned Queen of the Jungle in 2017. Georgia has been able to amalgamate the influencer world with her broadcasting career and has thus created a wonderfully loyal audience. ABOUT THIS BOOK Flames reignited in Greece A-list actress Catherine has everything—but she's fighting personal battles. So an escape to the Greek island belonging to her best friend’s brother Alaric offers the tranquillity she craves. Except seeing Alaric again sets her heart-rate soaring. Life might have changed him, but when the torch she once held from him is reignited it’s impossible to ignore! MY REVIEW Sizzling chemistry, two warm and engaging characters who are both trying to come to terms with their past, and a stunning setting and you have BEAUTY AND THE RECLUSIVE MILLIONAIRE by Rachael Stewart. Catherine has achieved success as an actress and has a face the world has come to love and adore. But when her break-up with her co-star becomes headline news, she is happy to escape to a secluded Greek island belonging to her best friend's brother, Alaric. Catherine hopes that her presence will help Alaric return to the world after his tragic accident and stop hiding in his fortress, while also helping her heal from the truth behind her break-up, but she did not expect to feel this fiery connection to Alaric after all these years. Alaric has become a recluse, living in his private sanctuary and the last thing he needs is Catherine staying with him, especially since he has always had feelings for her. But how could he say no when she needed his help? As sparks start to fly, Alaric is determined to keep Catherine at arm's length as he truly believes that he does not deserve happiness after what happened three years ago. But can true love show them both that love can overcome all obstacles? I absolutely loved this book and enjoyed every page. The characters are both loveable and as I learned about their past and present, I wanted them to find peace within themselves and allow themselves to be happy again. As a romance, BEAUTY AND THE RECLUSIVE MILLIONAIRE by Rachael Stewart ticked every box possible and I cannot wait to read more from this wonderful author. AUTHOR INFO Rachael Stewart adores conjuring up stories for the readers of Harlequin Mills & Boon and Deep Desires Press, with tales varying from the heartwarmingly romantic to the wildly erotic. She’s been writing since she could put pen to paper as the stacks of scrawled on A4 sheets in her loft will attest to, and the lovingly bound short stories that her father would run off at work and proudly share out with his colleagues. Thinking it was a pipe dream to be published one day, she pursued a sensible career in business but she was really play-acting, achieving the appropriate degree and spending many years in the corporate world where she never truly belonged. Always happiest when she was sat at her laptop in the quiet hours tapping out a story or two. And so here she is, a published author, her full-time pleasure, a dream come true. A Welsh lass at heart, she now lives in Yorkshire with her husband and three children, and if she's not glued to her laptop, she's wrapped up in them or enjoying the great outdoors seeking out inspiration. Seth, who is dealing with his own trauma after the death of his wife, didn't expect to find an A-list celebrity in his midst. He is here to help out some troubled teens at the nearby ranch and doesn't need any more complications in his life. But as Seth and Tia become closer, could they help each other figure out what they want from their future, and could it possibly be together? A beautiful setting and two characters who really burrow into your heart, and KEEP ME WARM AT CHRISTMAS hits just the perfect note for a holiday romance. Tia is struggling with the change in her appearance and how the world will react and treat her, while Seth is deeply scarred from the loss of his wife and how he is expected to live his life from now on. But together you can see them help each other figure things out one step at a time, and it was a pleasure to watch. KEEP ME WARM AT CHRISTMAS by Brenda Novak is a heartwarming, moving story of new beginnings, and I highly recommend it to all romance readers.
