Noleen Delaney is one of an army of night cleaners at St Angelus hospital in Liverpool. Since her husband was injured in the war, she has supported her five children. With help from her eldest, Bryan – a porter's lad – the family just about gets by. When Finn, her youngest, passes the eleven plus exam, Noleen feels faint. Allowing Finn to attend the grammar will stretch her purse too far. When Bryan steps in to help, the results rock the St Angelus community. As the nurses of Lovely Lane near their final exams, Noleen will find herself tested, and her heart broken. Just how far can a mother’s love stretch? MY REVIEW I am honoured to kick off the blog tour for THE MOTHERS OF LOVELY LANE by Nadine Dorries. This is the third book in The Lovely Lane book series but can easily be read as a standalone, although after reading this beautiful story I anticipate that you will want to read everything written by the talented Nadine Dorries. In this story St. Angelus Hospital is at the heart of the community and with the war over, things are beginning to change - some changes which are good and some that are not so good. But one thing that will never falter in this area of Liverpool in the 1950s is the strength, determination, and kindness that shines among this close-knit group of neighbours. From Dessie who is doing his part in helping all of the families that have suffered or lost someone to the battlefield, to Biddy and Elsie who may disagree on occasion but have the well-being of everyone at the forefront of their actions, the real meaning of friendship and community spirit comes alive among the pages. Having survived the war does not mean that the suffering is over, and when Noleen finds herself in untested waters, she will need those that love her family, more than ever. With plenty of fascinating characters, drama, love, and heartbreak, THE MOTHERS OF LOVELY LANE by Nadine Dorries really has everything you could look for in a historical novel. I was transported back in time and while there were plenty of scenes that brought the harsh realities that existed back then to life, there were so many beautiful moments in this book, that I know it will be a story that I will revisit again and again. THE MOTHERS OF LOVELY LANE by Nadine Dorries is a perfect read about love, friendship, compassion, and family, and I urge you all to read this book now! Author Bio: Nadine Dorries was born in Liverpool in the 1950s and raised on a council estate, the daughter of a bus driver. Her first novel, THE FOUR STREETS, was inspired by memories of her childhood, particularly her Irish grandmother who she was very close to. Nadine trained as a nurse, then followed with a successful career in which she established and then sold her own business. She has been the MP for Mid-Befordshire since 2005 and has three daughters.
