Release date - 21st September 2017 Book length - 464 pages Publisher - www.harpercollins.co.uk Book Depository - www.bookdepository.com Amazon UK - www.amazon.co.uk Amazon US - www.amazon.com ABOUT THE BOOK THE TRUTH WON’T STAY LOCKED UP FOREVER When a burned body is found in a disused signal box, suspicion falls on lonely teenager Gabriel Webb. There’s no doubt he was at the scene of the crime, but does he really deserve what awaits him in prison? DS Imogen Grey is certain there’s more to the case than meets the eye. But while she struggles to convince those around her of the truth, her partner DS Adrian Miles is distracted by his own demons. When a brutal double murder is reported, their investigation is stopped in its tracks. Is the body in the box even who they thought it was? The duo realise Gabriel might have been locked up for a crime he didn’t commit. But with enemies watching Gabriel’s every move, they may be too late. Miles and Grey are back in the thrilling new novel from bestselling author Katerina Diamond, perfect for fans of Karin Slaughter and M.J. Arlidge. MY REVIEW The cover of this book includes a quote from Heat proclaiming that Katerina Diamond is the 'new Queen of Crime' and after reading THE ANGEL in one evening, I can wholeheartedly agree. Enthralling, powerful, and completely absorbing, this book will suck you in and hold you captive until the very last line. When a burned body shows up, it isn't long before DS Grey and DS Miles have found their suspect, young Gabriel Webb. But uneasy about sending Gabriel to prison for an accident doesn't sit well with them and how on earth will Gabriel survive on the inside? But Grey and Miles are soon distracted when a double murder occurs which appears to make absolutely no sense. Add on to that DS Miles personal investigation into the man that has taken away his family and DS Grey's secret relationship with a convict, and there are far too many questions and not enough answers. But as the detectives do what they do best and suspect everyone, finally some of the pieces begin to slot together and it even looks like the two cases are connected. But will they be able to uncover the truth before it is too late for Gabriel? THE ANGEL by Katerina Diamond is an example of crime fiction at its finest. The characters are engaging, realistic, and sometimes terrifying. I really enjoyed the way the story switched from the detective's investigation to Gabriel in prison, and as the danger increased for him, I felt my heart race as time was running out. With plenty of twists and unexpected turns, there were lots of surprises along the way, and this story is excellently paced as you can feel the clock ticking down. I picked THE ANGEL up at 8 p.m. and read it right through until 1.30 a.m. because I just had to know!!! Read on for a great guest post which Katerina Diamond has kindly provided about why we love crime fiction so much. Why we love Crime fiction by Katerina Diamond
Crime fiction is one of the most successful genres in the UK. It’s a very broad genre that includes subgenres like Suspense, Psychological, Mystery. Look at the Amazon chart at any given time and the top ten will consist of at least 5 crime novels, often more. What is it about crime fiction that people like to read? Why do we want to read about death, rape, kidnapping and murder? Granted the UK isn’t swimming with serial killers (that we know of – but surely any good serial killer isn’t getting caught). Also, stranger attacks are quite rare in the grand scheme of things. If you get murdered or raped, it’s more likely to be by someone you know (isn’t that a comforting thought!). But watch the news for half an hour and you can feel like the world is coming down on you. I think with that in mind, it appeals to our sense that the world is out of our control, at least when we read these stories they (usually) have a satisfying conclusion, all of the loose ends tied up. If only life were so considerate. Marnie Riches, author of Born Bad says “Humans are, by instinct, homicidal predators. We're not top of the food chain for nothing, and it's only the development of society and its strict structure and rules that stop most of us from behaving like murderous dicks. Readers love police procedurals because we all love solving puzzles and again, where our lives are dull on a daily basis, the genre provides great no-risk escapism and thrill. “ As a reader, I like crime for the mystery element. I like to solve puzzles. I think more than most genre’s crime thrillers are a more involving read. It usually entails some kind of puzzle that needs to be solved. Whether its who did it, why they did it, how it was done – we become involved in the process and want to try and figure things out before the book ends. There is definitely an element of security in crime fiction, that we can explore the depths of humanity and get some insight into the human condition without being in any actual danger. Also, I think we look for parallels to our own inner darkness. There is something comforting about knowing that our own abnormal thoughts aren’t that abnormal after all. Crime fiction allows us to explore situations we are unlikely to ever be involved in ourselves, like a mob war or a kidnapping. Sharon Bolton, author of Dead Woman Walking says “Scary stories are essential to the human condition. Since we gathered around our campfires at night, the stories we have told each other have been the frightening ones. Then, the hostile tribe in the next valley, or the sabre-toothed tiger, now the child abductor or the shadowy figure in the alley. We scare ourselves through stories in order to explore vicariously and come to terms with the things that scare us in real life. Scary stories make us feel better and safer.” I think we do look for conflict without putting ourselves in danger, we want to feel scared but still be safe. We read about real crimes and wonder how they could possibly happen, we want to know what those people were thinking when they committed the crimes or when they were victimised. It helps us tap into our own feelings. What would I do in this situation? How would I feel? See from both the side of the Predator or the prey helps us to understand ourselves better. Former Police Officer and crime writer Caroline Mitchell – author of Witness says “For me, crime fiction is pure escapism. I get to spend time in the shoes of a detective that always gets her man (or woman), dealing with cases without being bogged down by red tape and paperwork - as you would in real life. I'd love to be my protagonists for a day, they have far more fun than I ever did!” I think crime fiction is a wonderful, broad and exciting genre that contains so many possibilities. I’m so glad to be a part of it. *My thanks again to Katerina Diamond for such a fascinating piece. And don't forget to check out the other stops along the way!!

Book length - 255 pages Publisher - Self-Published Amazon UK - www.amazon.co.uk Amazon US - www.amazon.com ABOUT THE BOOK Sometimes a killer comes along who will make your blood run cold... When the body of a young woman is found with her hands and teeth missing, Detective Inspector Phil Morris struggles to identify her. The evidence initially suggests she is local missing girl, Alex Waters, whose mother, Tricia, comes armed with a psychic gift she would rather not possess. As Phil and his partner, Detective Donna Barclay, try to untangle the web of mystery surrounding the body, it appears that Alex had more secrets than even her psychic mother knew. As the hour glass empties, Phil and Donna are pushed to their limits trying to unravel the disturbed mind behind the sick game playing out around them. MY REVIEW THE DAUGHTER by Billy McLaughlin is a gripping and dark story filled with haunting twists and unexpected turns. The third book in the DI Morris series, I imagined that reading the previous books would be necessary but I was wrong, and this book can easily be read as a standalone. When a young woman's body is discovered in a shed with her teeth missing, and parts of her body hacked off, Detectives Phil and Donna are put onto the case to discover who the victim is and find the perpetrator. But this case may be a little too close to home when everything seems to point to the fact that the victim is the missing local girl, Alex Waters. As secrets float to the surface, and families are torn apart by deceit, it appears that this murder may be just the beginning, will they be able to stop the killer before they strike again? THE DAUGHTER by Billy McLaughlin is not a fast-paced, energetic crime thriller, but rather a composed crime novel as the clues and characters slowly slot into place as the narrative continues. Phil and Donna are great characters and there is a real air of authenticity when you read about all aspects of their job, which can often be dull and boring. THE DAUGHTER by Billy McLaughlin is a great read and I recommend it to all readers who enjoy an evenly paced crime thriller. Author Bio: Billy McLaughlin is a 38 year old writer from Glasgow who has published four novels in the crime genre. The first is Invisible, a novelette about a woman who hides the true nature of her private life from a colleague that she's befriended. However, he delves in further under the belief that he can help her with horrible consequences. The second of his books, and the first in the DI Morris series, tells the story of a young woman who has lost her way and ends up on the streets. As her life continues to break under the rubble, she finds herself at the heart of a murder where she's the obvious suspect. In the Wake of Death picks up six months after the events of Lost Girl where DI Morris is caught up in a mystery of a more personal nature. When Marc Adams, the brother of an old flame, is left for dead it is up to Morris to get to the bottom of the crime. However, something darker lies beneath the surface. In March 2017 McLaughlin released The Dead of Winter, a 40k crime novella that tells the story of two missing children, one a baby and one the teenager next door. The ugly truth of a middle class community on the edge of Glasgow reveals how these people react to the crime and how they'll protect their own at any cost. Audrey Fox has been dumped by her unreliable fiancé Nick Byrne just days before the wedding. Heartbroken and confused, the last thing she expects when she jumps on a plane to convalesce in Cyprus is romance. But a chance meeting with handsome entrepreneur and father-of-one Daniel Taylor weaves her into a dating game she's not sure she's ready for. Audrey's life is thrown into further turmoil when she discovers on her return to London that Nick has been involved in a serious motorcycle accident that's left him in intensive care. Distraught yet determined to look to the future, Audrey must make a decision - follow her heart or listen to well-meaning advice from family and friends? Because sometimes, no matter what, it's the people that we love who can hurt us the most... MY REVIEW Simply put, I loved NO WAY BACK by Kelly Florentia. Engaging and refreshingly realistic characters and a well-paced plot with plenty of drama and betrayals to keep you gripped from beginning to end are just some of the reasons why this story really worked for me. While I am not sure about the cover as it may give readers the impression that it is a crime fiction novel, which it definitely is not, as soon as you read the first page you will be sucked into this excellent narrative and all thoughts of covers will be forgotten. Audrey's life is destroyed when the love of her life for the past eight years, Nick, ruthlessly calls off their wedding ten days before the actual event, leaving her abandoned and distraught. With her family and close friends urging her to move on and forget about him, Audrey is trying her best to put a brave face on it all but she cannot help how she feels. And when she discovers that Nick has been involved in a serious accident, she secretly visits him to let him know that she will be there to help him. That is until the night when she arrives and he already has a visitor... Throwing herself into her work and being there for her friends and her family, Audrey hopes that her life will sort itself out soon, and when sexy Daniel shows his interest in her, Audrey is flattered. And the more time she spends with him, the better she begins to feel about her fresh start. But Daniel has his own baggage that is about to collide with Audrey... Add in some deep dark secrets, betrayals of the highest order, and some drunken mistakes, and NO WAY BACK by Kelly Florentia is everything you need in a good book and more. Audrey has this black and white view of so many things but as the story develops and the messiness of life becomes clearer to her, Audrey starts to understand that nothing in life is straight-forward. With plenty of emotional moments, and twists and turns along the way, NO WAY BACK by Kelly Florentia really is a cracker of a story and I look forward to more from this author!! Author Bio: Kelly Florentia was born and bred in north London, where she continues to live with her husband Joe. Her second novel NO WAY BACK will be released on 21st September 2017. Kelly has always enjoyed writing and was a bit of a poet when she was younger. Before penning her first novel, The Magic Touch (2016), she wrote short stories for women’s magazines. Book length - 384 pages Publisher - www.harpercollins.co.uk Book Depository - www.bookdepository.com Amazon UK - www.amazon.co.uk Amazon US - www.amazon.com ABOUT THE BOOK Nevermore… Eager to start their life together, historian Vickie Preston and Special Agent Griffin Pryce take a detour en route to their new home in Virginia and stop for a visit in Baltimore. But their romantic weekend is interrupted when a popular author is found dead in the basement of an Edgar Allan Poe–themed restaurant. Because of the mysterious circumstances surrounding the corpse, the FBI’s Krewe of Hunters paranormal team is invited to investigate. As more bizarre deaths occur, Vickie and Griffin are drawn into a case that has disturbing echoes of Poe’s great works, bringing the horrors of his fiction to life. The restaurant is headquarters to scholars and fans, and any of them could be a merciless killer. Except there’s also something reaching out from beyond the grave. The late, great Edgar Allan Poe himself is appearing to Vickie in dreams and visions with cryptic information about the murders. Unless they can uncover whose twisted mind is orchestrating the dramatic re-creations, Vickie and Griffin’s future as a couple might never begin… MY REVIEW WICKED DEEDS by Heather Graham is a thoroughly enjoyable mystery mixed with some historical figures and facts, and just a dash of romance added in to complete the mix. Historian Vickie Preston and Special Agent Griffin Pryce are taking some much needed time out together as they are preparing for their new life together. On a stopover in Baltimore, they suddenly find themselves drawn into what appears to be the accidental death of a very famous author in the cellar of a popular new restaurant. But with the widow claiming it was murder, dead birds surrounding the victim, and the fact that nobody even saw the author enter the restaurant, Vickie and Griffin are more than curious. And then there are the dreams that Vickie keeps having where Edgar Allan Poe seems to be warning her... Even though this is my first time reading the Krewe Hunter Series, I didn't feel lost or unsure of what was happening so it can easily be read as a standalone book. Although I must say I am definitely going to buy some of the previous books as I really enjoyed the pace of this novel, and the paranormal element really worked for me. History is interwoven effortlessly throughout and you will find yourself fascinated by Mr. Poe and I found myself taking down a book of his from my shelf when I finished reading WICKED DEEDS. With plenty of mystery, twists, and creepy occurrences, WICKED DEEDS by Heather Graham kept me interested from start to finish, and I read this novel in one sitting. Definitely, a must-read for paranormal fiction fans everywhere. Author Bio: New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Heather Graham has written more than a hundred novels. She's a winner of the RWA's Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Thriller Writers' Silver Bullet. She is an active member of International Thriller Writers and Mystery Writers of America. Four lives would be changed forever, One Day in December. One morning in December... Caro set off on a quest to find out if her relationship with her father had been based on a lifetime of lies. Lila decided today would be the day that she told her lover's wife of their secret affair. Cammy was on the way to pick up the ring for the surprise proposal to the woman he loved. And Bernadette vowed that this was the day she would walk away from her controlling husband of 30 years and never look back. One day, four lives on a collision course with destiny... MY REVIEW ONE DAY IN DECEMBER by Shari Low is an example of contemporary fiction at its finest. Engaging, addictive, and all-consuming, this story completely took over and I did not even notice the hours drift by as I was immersed in that all-important day in December when lives would change forever. Caro is devastated at the dwindling health of her mother and the complete abandonment by her father at a time when they need him more than ever. Even though his important job had always taken him away during most of her life, Caro is angry that he would turn his back on them now. But when a little Facebook digging seems to uncover a lifelong secret that could change everything, Caro travels to Glasgow to confront the man she never really knew or understood. I loved Caro and her kind heart and she was one of my favourites in this book. Lila is selfish and self-obsessed and has decided that she no longer wants to wait for her married lover to leave his wife, and resolves to take matters into her own hands. When Lila wants something she takes it and to hell with the consequences or gets hurt in the process. As you can tell I was not a massive fan of Lila but I was still hooked by her story and how it all would end. Cammy is sexy, sweet, and a little heartbroken from a love that he let get away. Now in a new relationship, he is giving it his all and has planned a romantic proposal to the new lady in his life. It is time he grew up and this is the perfect next step, even if his closest friends feel it is an awful mistake. Cammy is a wonderful character who is so endearing that you just want to hug him and take him under your wing. And then there is Bernadette, a hardworking and caring nurse, who has spent thirty years married to a calculating and controlling monster. Seeing her friend find happiness in her later years has inspired her to break free. With her plans ready to go, Bernadette only hopes that she doesn't let fear force her to retreat. Bernadette is my favourite character and I desperately wanted her to find the happiness and love that she truly deserved. All of these characters stories converge in unexpected ways on that one fateful day in December and as the drama unfolds, you will not be able to put this book down. The day itself is split into slots and the story moves from one character to another as the narrative flows easily from beginning to end. ONE DAY IN DECEMBER by Shari Low is a superb story of love, secrets, friendship, and heartbreak, and needs to be on everyone's reading list this year. Author Bio: Shari lives in Glasgow and writes a weekly opinion column and Book Club page for a well-known newspaper. She is married to a very laid-back guy and has two athletic teenage sons, who think she’s fairly embarrassing, except when they need a lift. Book length - 204 pages Publisher - www.tirgearrpublishing.com Amazon UK - www.amazon.co.uk Amazon US - www.amazon.com ABOUT THE BOOK A few days before the New Year, Carly Mitchell returns home to the small town on the Yorkshire moors. Her intention for the short visit is to make her apologies and offer an explanation for her action. A year earlier, she fled, leaving her bridegroom and friends bewildered. She’s met with mixed reactions, ranging from curiosity to open hostility. However, when an emergency arises, Carly agrees to change her plans and stay a little longer. Falling in love with the new local doctor, Ben Thornton, was not part of her original plan either. Especially when it appears his past is shrouded in mystery. Complications and tensions increase during the town’s New Year celebrations and she begins to doubt whether she has done the right thing by coming home. Can she find the resolution she needs to overcome the challenges facing her, or will she run away again? MY REVIEW RESOLUTIONS by Carol Warham is an emotional and engrossing story about love, hurt, and finding your inner strength. It is one year since Carly Mitchell ran away from the only home she had ever known without a word, leaving the small community that was more like family behind her. Now that she has become stronger and has a career opportunity to work abroad, Carly decides that it is the right time to return home and face the music and try to apologise and explain to everyone why she disappeared like that. As expected the atmosphere isn't exactly welcoming when word gets out that Carly is back, but when her help is needed, Carly cannot leave those she cares about in the lurch again, and her flying visit becomes a little longer than anticipated. But at least she can get to know the newcomer in town, Dr. Thornton, a little better. But with exes turning up out of the woodwork, and old wounds refusing to be healed, anger, revenge, and tension are rife with Carly at the centre of it all. And when those she loves are getting dragged into her mess, maybe it would be better if she ran away one more time... RESOLUTIONS by Carol Warham was so much more than a nice easy read as the characters are so well-developed, and the emotions are so rife that you cannot help but feel it all alongside Carly and the gang. As Carly tries to make amends for what happened and finds herself back in the role that she had worked so hard to escape from, I was screaming along for her to tap into her solid inner strength and not let that idiot destroy everything for her (you will know who I'm talking about when you read it!). And while this is all going on, Carly also has to figure out her feelings for the sexy Dr. Ben whose own baggage from the past literally lands on Carly's doorstep, and her former best friend who needs her more than ever. The setting is beautiful and this tight-knit community really comes alive on the page and makes you want to live there. RESOLUTIONS by Carol Warham is an endearing story that really captured my heart and I highly recommend it!! Author Bio: Carol lives in beautiful Yorkshire, with her husband and Sam the dog. 'Resolutions' is her first novel and is based in locations around her home. Writing has always been a part of her life, as a child she made up comics for dolls and friends. After leaving a college she became a journalist for a short time, and in more recent years has had some short stories, travel articles and poems published. When not writing she is involved with her two daughters, grandchildren and various organisations in the village where she lives. Book length - 215 pages Publisher - Self-Published Amazon UK - www.amazon.co.uk Amazon US - www.amazon.com ABOUT THE BOOK Five feet one and full of fizz, Jennifer Brown lights up the room. She has a gorgeous partner, a wicked best friend, and a boss who doesn’t mind that she’s the worst typist on the planet. She’s loyal, generous and irredeemably ditzy. Everyone loves Jennifer Brown. But can she learn to love herself? When her world caves in, she needs every ounce of her steely core to step back from the abyss and take charge of her life, reinventing herself first as cook and housekeeper to a saucy sexagenarian, then as manager of a tumbledown country estate with sensitive secrets. Peopled by a battalion of hilarious characters from the caustic, cross-dressing confidant to the besotted ex-boyfriend with a barmy ex-wife, Jennifer Brown’s Journey is a heartwarming, thoughtful, often poignant portrait of the trials of life as a thirty-something woman. Jennifer Brown champions the importance of self-belief, and the value of a bucket-sized glass of wine in a tight spot. And, always in the background, there’s the quiet man with the warm eyes and the velvet vowels. What on earth is Jennifer Brown going to do about him? The first in a series of three, Jennifer Brown’s Journey is a story of female self-empowerment and the triumph of the human spirit in the face of challenges that many women will recognise. Lighthearted and poignant, the story gives readers a very real sense of a woman, initially rather ditzy, maturing into a redoubtable, self-possessed individual who faces her many challenges with developing aplomb. MY REVIEW JENNIFER BROWN'S JOURNEY by Angie Langley is a heartwarming story about love, betrayal, and picking yourself up after your world changes. Jennifer Brown seems to have it all - a hunky husband, a career, and a personality that endears herself to everyone she meets. But when she uncovers a secret betrayal, it turns her whole life inside out and Jennifer decides that it is time for a change of scene, in fact, a change of lifestyle. From housekeeper to manager, as we travel along with Jennifer's journey of self-discovery, be prepared to laugh out loud many many times, as the other characters that Jennifer encounters will blow your mind! But there is also a deeper side to this novel as we get to really know Jennifer who matures a lot over the course of this story as she begins to think deeply about what she wants from her future. The characters are realistic, likeable (well, except for one in particular!!), and really engaging and I read this story in one sitting without even realising it until I turned the last page. The book is well-paced with never a dull moment and I loved seeing the real Jennifer emerge as she began to find her feet and self-confidence again. JENNIFER BROWN'S JOURNEY by Angie Langley is a great read and perfect for fans who enjoy a well-written story with plenty of drama! Author Bio: Angie Langley has a background in entertainment and venue management and she’s worked with artists in the US, the UK and Europe. She's also a lyricist who collaborates and manages the talented Scottish Composer & Musician, Tish Tindall. http://www.tishtindall.co.uk Angie also works as a TV producer with Avant-garde Films where she brings her extensive portfolio of creative expertise to bear behind the camera, creating projects across a range of programming that includes factual, reality, feature drama and drama serial. Jennifer Brown’s Journey is her first book, inspired by the highs and lows of a distant past that has given her the strength to tackle each day with a smile. Angie is fortunate enough to live in a delightful 17th-century thatched cottage on the banks of the river Avon in Wiltshire, which not only provides her with inspiration to write, but also enables her to persue her other passion, photography.
