Book length - 325 pages The Book Depository - www.bookdepository.com | Amazon - The Amulet Thief: Volume 1 (The Fitheach Trilogy) BLURB Fitheach blood doesn’t just run through the veins–it’s a binding contract that can never be broken. Alex Kelley vanished twenty-one years ago–the night her mother was murdered. When she comes home to New York City, she wants just two things: a little peace, and answers about the unsolved murder and why she was abandoned in the middle of America at the age of eight. Greer Sinclair, an enigmatic stranger who knows a little bit more than he should, just might give her both–and more if she’ll let him. What is she? What is he? Who is this beguiling satyr who keeps coming between them? She attracts the otherworldly like moths to a flame. And why does every stranger on the streets of Manhattan want a piece of her and that pendant hanging around her pretty little neck? Maybe the answers are in a peculiar shop in the heart of Greenwich Village where ghosts, memories, and secrets are bursting from the walls and the books and the one person who knows her best. The line between the mundane and supernatural worlds is starting to blur. Which side will she choose? Which would you? MY REVIEW THE AMULET THIEF by Luanne Bennett is an enjoyable paranormal tale of magic and mayhem. Alex Kelley has finally returned to New York after being whisked away as a child when her mother died, and she is determined to find out more about what happened all those years ago. But as soon as she sets foot back in the city, dark forces are determined to grab a hold of her and her precious necklace that once belonged to her mother. Is she going crazy? But as Alex learns about her past, it is even more unbelievable than that - for Alex comes from a long line of witches and must learn as much as she can about her own power before it is too late. With the help of Greer Sinclair, Alex begins to piece her past together, but who exactly is this guy? I did find this story a little slow to start, and while I liked the main character, Alex, she can be a little too naive at times. But with plenty of action and supernatural adventure throughout, THE AMULET THIEF by Luanne Bennett, is well worth a read. BOOK RATING - 📖📖📖 3.5 Author Bio: I was born in Chicago and lived in New York City for several years. I make my home in the South these days where I write, garden, cook, and anything else that feeds my creative side. After a long career in the technology world, I realized I was living someone else’s life and decided to finally live mine instead. I write full-time these days, dreaming up new projects and shooing my cat off the keyboard as I try to type. Though I'm currently working on the conclusion of my fantasy trilogy, my next series is in the wings and waiting to come to life on the page. Book length - 366 pages Available on - www.amazon.co.uk | www.amazon.com | www.bookdepository.com BLURB Sirens is the brooding and assured debut from Joseph Knox, the next big name in crime fiction. Set in a sprawling, twilight northern city, Sirens introduces Aidan Waits, a disgraced young detective caught stealing drugs from evidence and subsequently blackmailed into going undercover. When an MP's daughter runs away from home, Waits is sent to track her down and finds himself at the centre of a maelstrom of drugs, blackmail and deception. Uncovering the motives of those involved, he's thrown forwards through politicians, police and drug lords - towards a conclusion and a truth he really doesn't want to know. MY REVIEW Ok, where do I start with my review for SIRENS by Joseph Knox? Will I be able to convey just how emotionally absorbing and compelling this gritty novel truly is? The answer is probably not, but I will do my best. I have read many excellent crime fiction novels in my time but SIRENS by Joseph Knox is in a total league of its own. From the dark and disturbing insight into the drug trade and the individual roles within it to the flawed and damaged characters that live and breathe on both sides of the law, the reality of this tough world will haunt you in your dreams. Detective Aidan Waits is so much more than a messed up cop with a penchant for drugs, and as the fine line he is treading leads him into a different murky underworld, he tries to protect those he deems deserving. But as the bodies start to stack up, who can he really trust? Because the closer he gets to the truth, the more danger he is in, and everyone is disposable. From the missing MP's daughter to the epicentre of the drug trade, and the complicated relationships Waits finds himself involved with, all paths will finally converge to lead to the truth. But will Waits survive to bring it out into the open? SIRENS by Joseph Knox is an outstanding, deeply disturbing, crime thriller that really burrows into the reader's mind and makes you physically react to the story. SIRENS by Joseph Knox is the crime fiction novel to beat in 2017 but I have to say I'm not sure if that is possible!! But do the murky circumstances point to an accident, a murder, or a supernatural encounter? Mer thought adjusting to a laid-back life in the Florida Keys would be a breeze. But when she rescues a floundering diver who claims to have seen a ghost, she’s caught in a storm of intrigue. News of the encounter explodes on social media, attracting a team of ghost hunters who want to capture proof that a greenish ghoul haunts Key Largo’s famed USS Spiegel Grove shipwreck. Meredith knows the wreck inside and out, and agrees to act as their safety diver. When Ishmael, the charismatic leader of the group, vanishes during a midnight dive, everyone except Mer is convinced the ghost has claimed another victim. Topside, the tenacious detective in charge of the investigation finds Mer’s involvement in both incidents suspicious, and her enigmatic neighbor resurrects ghosts from her past. Determined to find a rational explanation, Mer approaches Ishmael’s disappearance as any scientist would—by asking questions, gathering data, and deducing the truth. But the victim’s life is as shrouded in mystery as his disappearance. Still, something happened under the water and before long, she’s in over her head. When someone tries to kill her, she knows the truth is about to surface. Maybe dead men do tell tales after all. MY REVIEW ADRIFT by Micki Browning is an exciting mystery debut and I really enjoyed it. Meredith Cavallo, a marine biologist who has taken a temporary position as a diving instructor, finds herself at the centre of an investigation. With stories of a paranormal entity beneath the waves, and the leader of the documentary grew disappearing, it is no wonder that everyone is terrified. But as Mer digs deeper beneath the surface, she begins to uncover the truth, and it might just get her killed. Throw in the fact that she is the detective's number one suspect, and life has gotten a whole lot more dangerous for this scientist. With plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader captivated, this mystery is well-paced throughout. I really enjoyed the entire underwater/shipwreck/paranormal element of the plot, as it gave the story that something extra. An interesting and intriguing novel. Book length - 352 pages Available on - www.amazon.com | www.amazon.co.uk BLURB One is his first love. The other is his best love. Which will be Walter’s true love? Walter Scott has three passions: Scotland, poetry, and Mina Stuart. Though she is young and they are from different stations in society, Walter is certain their love is meant to be. For years, he has courted her through love letters. She is the sunshine of his soul. Though Mina shares Walter’s love of literature and romantic temperament, it’s hard for her to know if she truly loves him or if she has only been dazzled by his flattery. When she meets the handsome and charming William Forbes, her heart is challenged. Who will she choose? But as every poet knows, “the course of true love never did run smooth,” and on a windy morning in the lake country, Walter meets Charlotte. At twenty-six, Charlotte Carpenter believes she will never find love. After all, she is a Catholic-born Frenchwoman living in London with a family history shadowed by scandal. Though quiet, practical, and determined to live a life of independence, her heart longs for someone to love her and a place to call home. Passion and promises collide as Walter, Mina, and Charlotte must each decide the course for their futures. What are they each willing to risk to find love and be loved in return? MY REVIEW THE LADY OF THE LAKES by Josi S. Kilpack is the emotional, heartfelt, and true love story of Sir Walter Scott in the Eighteenth Century. Packed with beautiful description, the Scottish landscape and society at that time, springs to life and really makes the reader feel like they are there witnessing it all. But the most important and compelling part of this tale is Walter and his romantic ideals of love. Smitten at first sight with Mina, he plans his whole future with her at the centre, even though they had barely spent any real quality time together over their friendship. While his ardour grows stronger by their separation, Mina doubts what she feels for him, and when another, more suitable suitor is presented to her, she realises that she cares about Walter but not in the way that he wants. Devastated, Walter's romantic heart suffers greatly. But when he meets Charlotte Carpenter she opens up his damaged soul and shows him light in the darkness. Charlotte has had her own trials throughout her life and is content to live a life of independence and solitude. But when Walter enters her world, the possibility of love and a family are within her reach. But she will be second in no man's heart. Can Walter really leave his past behind him? Can they discover a deep and everlasting love together? THE LADY OF THE LAKES by Josi. S. Kilpack is a beautiful story of self-discovery and the real meaning of love, and I highly recommend it to all romance and historical fiction fans. BOOK RATING - 📖📖📖📖 4.5 Author Bio: Josi S. Kilpack hated to read until her mother handed her a copy of The Witch of Blackbird Pond when she was 13. From that day forward, she read everything she could get her hands on and credits her writing “education” to the many novels she has “studied” since then. She began writing her first novel in 1998 and has written twenty-five novels, one cookbook, and been part of multiple collaborations since then. She is a two-time Whitney Award winner and Best of State winner in Fiction. Josi currently lives in Willard, Utah, with her husband and children.
